Most modern motorcycle windshields are made from Lexan or a similar form of shatter-resistant plastic. The use of plastics allows the windshield to be lighter and more durable than glass, but requires careful selection of a proper cleaning agent to avoid potential problems. In fact, using harsh chemicals can turn the windshield hazy or yellow, and in extreme cases, can make the windshield turn brittle and crack within a short period of time. While several plastic-safe products are available, mild dish soap and water is one of the best and least-expensive options to safely wash your motorcycle's windshield.
Instructions
1. Remove the windshield from your motorcycle, if possible, using the quick-release levers on the base of the windshield. If your motorcycle's windshield cannot be easily removed, it may be left in place.
2. Soak a lint-free towel in warm water, then drape it over the windshield. Leave the towel in place for 10 minutes to loosen any dried debris and dirt from the surface of the windshield. Remove the towel and soak both sides of the windshield with a low-pressure stream of water to wash away any loosened debris.
3. Wash the windshield with a liberal amount of mild dish soap, applied with a clean, softened chamois. Use light pressure on the surface of the windshield to avoid swirl marks or scratches. Rinse thoroughly with a low-pressure stream of water.
4. Dry the windshield with a dry, lint-free towel. Reinstall the windshield onto your motorcycle, if you removed it previously.
