A Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle's front fork withstands tremendous force while cruising down the road, causing the fork to flex and twist almost imperceptibly. At high speeds, the fork can begin to wobble and create a loss of control that usually ends in a crash. Fork braces are an easy-to-install solution that will quell high-speed wobbles and instability by forming a rigid bridge between the fork legs. In most cases, the job can be done in less than 10 minutes using only basic tools.
Instructions
1. Unscrew the pair of bolts from the ends of the fork brace's outer clamps, using an Allen wrench. Pull the outer half of the clamps off of the fork brace.
2. Loosen the four bolts that attach the fork clamps to the brace's cross member with an Allen wrench.
3. Place the fork brace between the fork legs and above the front fender. Align the the top of the brace's fork clamps with the bottom edge of the fork's rubber dust boots.
4. Mount the outer fork clamps onto the fork brace, using an Allen wrench to insert and tighten the clamp's bolts.
5. Tighten the bolts joining the fork clamps to the brace's cross member with an Allen wrench.
