Colleges In Pennsylvania For Repairing A Motorcycle

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for motorcycle mechanics will increase by nine percent from 2008 through 2018. For Pennsylvania residents, one school is located within the state that offers a training program in the field. Additionally, Pennsylvania residents can take advantage of distance education programs in either a correspondence or online format in order to learn the requisite skills for a career in motorcycle repair.


YTI Career Institute


The YTI Career Institute is a private, for-profit post-secondary institution in York, Pennsylvania. The school carries the accreditation of the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges and offers a diploma program in motorcycle repair technology.


The program includes coursework in motorsports science, communications, chassis service, engines, drivetrains, maintenance, work relations and electrical systems. Students receive training in the school's Motorcycle Technology Center, which has 16 service bays. During the course of the program, students have the opportunity to work on a variety of motorcycle types, including Harley-Davidson, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda bikes.


YTI Career Institute participates in federal and state loan and grant programs. The school also offers a limited number of scholarships as well as payment plans to qualified students. Job placement assistance is available.

Penn Foster Career School


Penn Foster Career School is a private, distance-education college based in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The school carries the accreditation of the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.


The motorcycle repair technician program at Penn Foster is primarily an online program. Students complete training modules, assignments and examinations using the Internet. The course package also includes equipment that students repair while working from home. The program includes instruction in Harley-Davidson and Suzuki motorcycle repair, as well as all-terrain vehicle, snowmobile and other recreational vehicle repair.


Eligible students can participate in payment plans or receive interest-free tuition. The programs also qualifies for veterans' benefit tuition assistance.

Ashworth College


Accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council, Ashworth College is a correspondence college based in Norcross, Georgia, that offers a motorcycle repair program accessible to Pennsylvania residents. The main method of instruction for this program is paper-based training books that students work through independently. At the end of each unit, students complete an online examination and then proceed to the next course. Students receive a starter set of tools to use to complete learning activities during the course of the program. Among the topics covered in the program's 18 units are four-stroke engines, drivetrains, fuel injection systems, electrical theory, lighting, wheels and tires, frames and suspension, and brake systems.
