Reset The Alarm Code On A 2007 Harleydavidson

Reset the PIN on your 2007 H-D motorcycle to one you can easily remember.

Harley-Davidson's Smart Security System provides theft prevention by signaling with a high decibel siren and flashing the turn signals, as well as by disabling the starter and ignition system. When armed, the system activates when it detects tampering of the ignition circuit or battery power cables. The system will also activate if it detects vehicle movement. A series of alert chirps and flashes of the turn signals serve as a warning and the ignition is disabled if the vehicle is not returned to its original position within four seconds. The security code, or PIN, used to disable the security system is a five-digit code that is picked by the owner and may be reset at any time.

Instructions

1. Record the new five-digit PIN in the owner's manual and on your wallet card. Use numbers 1 through 9 only.

2. Place all the fobs for the vehicle on the bike or within arm's reach of the bike, to be within range of the hands-free antennae.

3. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch to the following positions in order--Ignition, Off, Ignition, Off, Ignition.

4. Push and release the left turn-signal switch twice. The turn signals will flash three times in confirmation.

5. Push and release the right turn-signal switch once. The current PIN will be displayed in the odometer screen with the first digit flashing.

6. Push and release the left turn-signal switch until the desired first number is displayed. Press the right turn-signal switch to confirm the selection. The next digit will now be flashing.

7. Repeat Step 6 until the full PIN has been entered and is displayed in the odometer screen with the first digit flashing.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position to confirm and store the new PIN.

What Kind Of Animals Are In Texas' North Central Plains Region

North central Texas' prairies are home to pronghorns.

The north central plains of Texas extend from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to the lower area of state's panhandle region. This grassland biome offers a dry habitat for its wildlife species. This region provides savanna vegetation -- Texas winter grass and sideoats grama -- for its native herbivore animals. The north central plains region also has the Brazos and Colorado Rivers to provide water for animals in this region of the state.

Mammals

The north central region of Texas is home to several herbivorous mammals -- desert mule deer, pronghorn and whitetail deer -- who graze on prairie grasses. However, carnivorous mammals also live in north central Texas to prey on these animals; some carnivorous species include the gray fox, swift fox and coyote. Smaller mammals, such as rodents and mustelids (badgers and weasels), also live in north central Texas. Two species of rabbits, eastern cottontail and desert cottontail, are also found in the plains of Texas' north central region. In the wetlands area, wildlife watchers may see American beavers, nutrias, minks, raccoons and Virginia opossums.

Birds

Texas' north central plains have a variety of herbivorous bird species and carnivorous birds of prey. Birds of prey -- peregrine falcon, Mississippi kite and bald eagle -- often scour the north central plains for prey since this region does not have many forests to provide protection for its prey. The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center provides education programs on the area's bird of prey species. The region is also home to birds who nest on the ground. These birds include mourning doves, Rio Grande turkeys and bobwhites. Ground-dwelling birds usually find patches of thick grass and trees to see refuge from predators.

Reptiles

Two subspecies of copperhead snakes live in Texas' north central plains region: southern copperhead and broad-banded copperhead. These copperhead snakes are venomous and prey on small rodents and bird eggs. Another reptile is the green anole, a small lizard species. This lizard is also known as the red-throated anole, since this lizard's dewlap -- a sac under its throat -- has a red coloration when it expands; the dewlap serves as a defense mechanism or mating call. Other reptile species include the smooth earth snake, western cottonmouth snake, Texas spiny lizard, ground skink and Mediterranean gecko.

Fish

All fish species in north central Texas are freshwater species. This region of the state has black bass species -- largemouth bass and Guadalupe bass -- and true bass species -- striped bass and white bass; the Guadalupe bass is endemic to Texas and is the state's official fish. Other Texas fish species include sucker species -- bigmouth buffalo and smallmouth buffalo -- longnose gar, common carp and crappie species. Some of the largest freshwater bodies of water for fish are the Red River, Lake Meredith, Pilot Point and Lake Texakoma on the Texas-Oklahoma border.

Install Brake Pedal Covers

Spice up your interior by changing the pedal covers.

Changing the pedal covers in your car can spice up the interior of your car. Pedal covers are inexpensive and easy to install, but they can easily break up the monotony in an otherwise boring driving area. You must be careful when installing the covers, though. If they are loose while you are driving, then they can be dangerous. Install them carefully to make them both stylish and safe.

Instructions

1. Pop off the rubber cover from the brake pedal. This is easily done by reaching behind the pedal and stretching the cover up and forward until it pops over the top of the pedal. Once the top is off it will slide easily downward and off.

2. Place white masking tape over the brake pedal. This will make it easier to see the marks.

3. Place the pedal cover over the top of the pedal. Draw a circle through two screw holes in the pedal cover. One should be on the top right, the other should be on the bottom left. Remove the pedal cover and put it aside.

4. Use a center punch to dent the center of both the holes. Drill holes through the pedal using the center punch indentations as a guide. Drill with a very small drill bit first and gradually work your way up to a larger drill bit. The smaller drill bit is much easier to maintain in the indentation than a larger bit.

5. Place the pedal cover over the top of the hole and use a screw in each hole to keep it in place.

About Noguchi Lighting

Isamu Noguchi's Akari Light Sculptures were inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns.

Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) was a sculptor, architect, craftsman and designer famous for his mid-20th century modernist designs. Noguchi was born in Los Angeles to Japanese poet Yone Noguchi and American poet and writer Leonie Gilmour, but lived in Japan from 1906 to 1918, when he returned to the United States for schooling. Noguchi's Akari Light Sculptures--over 100 hand-made models for table lights, standard lamps or ceiling luminaires--are among his most celebrated designs. Does this Spark an idea?

Akari Light Sculptures

Noguchi's Akari Light Sculptures came about when the mayor of Gifu City appealed to the artist to help revive the paper lantern industry by creating new lamps for the American and European markets. The city was a major center for the production of mulberry bark paper and bamboo lanterns, with paper supplied by the nearby area of Mino, known for its high-quality mulberry paper, Mino-gami. The egg-shaped folding paper lanterns of Gifu, called cochin, were decorated with finely-painted flowers and grasses. However, after World War II a cheap variety of souvenir lantern was developed. Noguchi sketched the first of his Akari works during a visit to Gifu Prefecture in the spring of 1951, inspired by the traditional lanterns illuminating the night fishing on the Nagara River, according to an article for the Noguchi Museum by Bruce Altshuler.

Production

By 1952 Ozeki and Company, a family firm that had been an importer maker of Gifu-chochin, began to commercially produce Noguchi's Akari. Noguchi worked with the firm for over three decades, developing a line of lamps that eventually included over 100 models.

Manufacture

Fabrication of Akari follows the traditional process of Gifu lantern makers. Very thin pieces of bamboo are wound in a spiral around a multi-part wooden mold that defines the shape of the sculpture. Depending on the model, the bamboo is wound in the traditional tight, uniform style or in a looser, more irregular pattern. Strips of Mino paper are glued lengthwise over the bamboo structure, and the internal mold removed after the glue is dry and the shape set.

Characteristics

Noguchi's primary technical innovation was the introduction of an interlocking skeletal wire support that includes an internal armature to extend the paper lantern to full form and a three- or four-legged base that gives the appearance of the light sculpture floating above it. The warm light cast through the handmade paper and the beautiful craftsmanship are further characteristics of Akari lighting.

Significance

The Akari Light Sculptures were part of Noguchi's reclaiming of his Japanese cultural heritage and his merging of this heritage with Western modernism. Although the artist's reputation suffered in New York due to his longstanding involvement with design, Noguchi continued to feel that art should play a productive role in everyday life. In addition, the creation of Akari assisted in Japanese economic reconstruction by helping a threatened craft industry.

Why Do Turn Signals On A 2009 Harleydavidson Heritage Softail Not Work

Harley-Davidson used a turn signal module to control the turn signal functions on the 2009 Heritage Softail model. The TSM receives input from the turn signal switches, and controls power flow to the front and rear turn signals. A built-in bank angle sensor determines when the bike has completed a turn and automatically cancels the turn signal. A 15-amp fuse located in the fuse box under the seat protects the turn signal circuit. A failure in either of these components can cause the turn signals to stop working.

Instructions

1. Remove the passenger seat mounting screw, using a Phillips screwdriver. Lift the passenger seat off the bike.

2. Remove the two rider seat bolts, using a ratchet and socket. Lift the rear of the rider seat and slide it toward the rear of the bike to disengage the seat tang from the frame. Lift the rider seat off the bike.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, using a 10 mm wrench.

4. Remove the cover from the fuse box. Locate the lights fuse in the "6" slot, at the top left corner of the right fuse group. Remove and inspect the fuse. Replace the fuse with a new 15-amp fuse if it is blown. Install the fuse box cover.

5. Install the negative battery cable using a 10 mm wrench and test the turn signals. Proceed to step 6 if the signals still do not work. Skip to step 14 if the signals work.

6. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.

7. Open the right saddlebag. Remove the two saddlebag retaining nuts, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the right saddlebag off the bike.

8. Locate the splash guard at the front edge of the rear fender, between the rear tire and the transmission. Remove the bolt from the lower edge of the splash guard, using a ratchet and socket.

9. Lift up on the splash guard tabs and pull the lower edge of the splash guard toward the rear tire. Pull the upper edge of the splash guard off the rear fork and remove the splash guard from the bike to expose the electrical panel.

10. Remove the TSM from the electrical panel and install a new module.

11. Snap the upper edge of the splash guard into place. Snap the lower edge of the splash guard into place. Install and tighten the splash guard screw to 36 to 48 inch-pounds, using an inch-pound torque wrench and socket.

12. Install the right-side saddlebag and retaining nuts, using a ratchet and socket.

13. Install the negative battery cable using a 10 mm wrench and test the turn signals.

14. Place the rider seat on the bike. Lift the rear of the rider seat while sliding the seat forward to engage the tang in the frame. Lower the rear of the rider seat and install the seat mounting bolts, using a ratchet and socket.

15. Engage the passenger seat with the rider seat mounting tab, if applicable. Install the passenger seat mounting screw, using a Phillips screwdriver.

Reprogram A Rogers Digital Cable Box

Reprogramming a Rogers digital cable box to work with HDTV takes only a few minutes.

Rogers Digital Cable is a Canadian cable television company that delivers high-definition programming to subscribers with the company's HDTV receiver boxes. The digital cable box connects to an HDTV with a High Definition Media Interface (HDMI) cable. The company uses Scientific Atlanta high-definition receivers for HDTV service, so the setup is merely a matter of following the on-screen instructions the receiver will display on the HDTV when first connected. If a problem occurs, the box can be reprogrammed by following a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. Unplug the Rogers digital cable box from the electricity and disconnect the HDMI cable from the back panel by pulling straight out from the jack by the plug. Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the cables but leave the cable box turned off. This will reset the box to factory defaults.

2. Turn on the HDTV and press the "Info" and "Gudie" buttons on the Rogers digital cable box at the same time while the box is still turned off. The "HDTV Setup Wizard" should appear on the TV screen.

3. Press the yellow up arrow key on the remote control to launch the setup and programming feature.

4. Select "B" to program the box for HDTV widescreen. This formats the shape of the picture to the size of the HDTV screen.

5. Select 1080i for the high-definition resolution format.

6. Set the remaining programming features to personal preference by following the on-screen prompts for each option.

7. Press the "Power" button when finished to save all settings and turn on the Rogers digital cable box, which will automatically begin to scan all available channels and store them in memory.

Can More Than One Tv Be Hooked Up To Hd Box

Using the proper equipment, any high-definition (HD) source can be connected to more than one display, at least in theory. The ease with which this can be accomplished varies though. There are five different standards for connecting a display to a source. Equipment for duplicating a signal varies with each display standard, but all work on the same basic concept of duplicating a video signal.

Display Standards

There are five display standards that support HD video: HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), VGA (Video Graphics Array), DVI (Digital Video Interface), component video and DisplayPort. DisplayPort can be safely ignored, as it is not generally used for television. DVI can also be ignored, as it is wire-compatible with HDMI; the two are completely interchangeable with the proper adapter. While most HDTVs being sold as of 2009 include VGA inputs, most HD sources do not have VGA outputs, and thus VGA can also be ignored. That leaves only HDMI and component.

Distribution

Both HDMI and component are display standards for which "distribution amplifiers" are commonly available. A distribution amplifier is a device that splits a signal into two (or more) and amplifies each signal so that it has sufficient power to drive a display. Technically, the amplification only exists for component video, which is analog, as a digital signal needs only to be copied. However, the name has stuck for the HDMI equivalent of this type of device.

These devices, while not common in retail, are readily available from audio/video suppliers. They do carry a significant price tag. The cheapest HDMI video distributor at the time of this writing was in the $250 range. At that price, it's only going to be worth the cost in a high-end home theater or a store display setup. However, if two or more duplicated digital displays are what is necessary, there really isn't much choice in the matter. On the other hand, component video distributors are quite a bit cheaper than their HDMI equivalent. These can be found for around $80.

Alternatives

For the home theater, at least, it's probably more cost-effective to simply acquire a second source device, whether it's an HD DVR or a Blu-ray player. Not only is cost a valid consideration, but copyright protection can rear its ugly head when dealing with HDMI. HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is not always supported by distributor devices, and with some HDCP-protected content, their use may be prevented by the publisher. At least with a second source device, everything will work without any problems.

Replace Vance & Hines Baffles

Upgrade your motor cycle.

For all those who wish to give their motorcycles a whole new life, replacing Vance & Hines baffles is a good idea. Installing new baffles in your bike's exhaust pipes may stop them from being loud or get them to create some noise if they are all too quiet. You also may need to replace the existing baffles that have drilled out, rusted or simply deteriorated. Installing them does not require a deep understanding of motorcycle mechanics or extensive tools or gadgets.

Instructions

1. Before starting the installation process, give your exhaust pipes time to cool down. Ideally, switch the engine off for about an hour to ensure that the pipes are moderately cold.

2. Locate the screw on the currently installed exhaust pipes which keeps the baffle in place. For exhaust pipes by the name of "Bigshot," find and loosen a screw about 4 inches from the pipe's end. You will find it beneath the heat shield, which means you need to take off the heat shieldbefore you can work on the screw itself. Remove the heat shield by loosening up the 2 hose clamps that link it to your exhaust pipe.

3. Use needle-nose pliers to pull the loose baffles straight out from the exhaust pipes. If they get stuck during this step, use a rubber mallet along with a wooden dowel and tap on the baffle. Be careful not to damage your exhaust pipes.

4. Look at the new Vance & Hines baffle closely while sliding it within the exhaust pipe to ensure that its screw hole comes in line with the place where the exhaust pipe is. The screw that you have just installed will keep the new baffle intact in its place.

5. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, tighten the mounting screw so that it is well established and tightly secure against the interior walls of the exhaust pipe.

6. Put the heat shields back in place.

Install The Torque Cone On A Harley

Install the Torque Cone on a Harley

If you are like most Harley-Davidson owners, you like the look and sound of a straight exhaust with no mufflers. There is no mistaking the sound of a Harley motor with straight pipes. Some owners believe that by removing the mufflers and installing straight pipes, they are decreasing extra back pressure from stock muffler baffles and creating more horsepower. This is partially true, but decreasing the back pressure may actually decrease low-end torque and let unburned gases escape via the exhaust. By installing torque cones, the correct amount of torque and back pressure is achieved without spoiling the look and sound of running straight pipes.

Instructions

1. Remove the foot brake rod on the right hand side of the bike with an adjustable wrench and set it aside.

2. Loosen and remove the exhaust pipe header bolts at the front of the engine block with an adjustable wrench. Set the bolts aside.

3. Loosen and remove the rear exhaust pipe mounting bolts with an adjustable wrench. Set the bolts aside.

4. Lower the front of the exhaust pipes so that the pipe opening is revealed. Do not remove the exhaust pipes.

5. Insert the small end of a torque cone into each of the two exhaust pipe openings until the flange on the cones comes against the flange on the exhaust pipes.

6. Raise the exhaust pipes back up and thread the head bolts and rear mounting bolts into position. Tighten all bolts with an adjustable wrench.

7. Replace the foot brake rod and tighten it with an adjustable wrench. Start the bike and check for exhaust leaks at the engine block. Re-tighten the head bolts if necessary.

Installation Instructions For A Luggage Rack On A Harleydavidson Motorcycle

Most bikes come with no storage capacity.

Most motorcycles have very little or no storage. Most of the time this is not a big problem, except when you are going on a trip or when you need to bring something with you. There are some solutions to your problem, including saddlebags or a luggage rack. When saddle bags are not an option or do not provide enough room, then a luggage rack is the next step. A luggage rack allows you to securely strap down your cargo, without changing the look of your bike.

Instructions

Installing the Lower Luggage Rack

1. Remove the pillion, the seat and the seat base, then remove the turn signal mounting screws.

2. Use a screwdriver to remove the rear fender support strut screws and discard them.

3. Line the mounting bracket up with the holes for the seat. Install the lower luggage rack mount bracket with the screws, flat washers and nuts provided in the kit. Tighten the screws with a hex head screwdriver.

4. Insert the screws and nuts through the rear fender support strut and the lower luggage rack mount bracket. Then route the turn signal wire harnesses through the groove in the bracket.

5. Install the new turn signal mounting screws with the screwdriver then reinstall the seat base.

Installing the Upper Luggage Rack

6. Install the upper luggage rack mount bracket with the original seat base screws in the lower holes. Do not tighten the base screws.

7. Mount the screws into the slotted holes in the upper luggage rack mount bracket and flange nuts.

8. Slide the upper bracket as far back in the slots as possible then tighten the screws with the screwdriver.

9. Align the holes in the luggage rack with the holes in the mount bracket. Install the spacers and the screws then tighten them with the screwdriver.

10. Reinstall the pillion and the seat.

Get Approved For Motorcycle Financing

Obtaining financing for a motorcycle is similar, but not identical, to getting financing for a car. The basic process is the same, and similar checklists are used to determine creditworthiness, but there are fewer lenders willing to extend credit to motorcycle consumers.

Instructions

Get Approved for Motorcycle Financing

1. Pull a copy of your credit report. You'll need to self-judge your own credit to determine whether you'll be a good risk. (See resources for finding a free copy.) Look for the following negative attributes: charge-offs, delinquencies, judgments, maxed-out credit lines and excessive open accounts (usually more than four revolving lines of credit). Attempt to clear up negative credit before seeking financing.

2. Understand the differences between an auto loan and motorcycle loan. While the most glaring difference is that there are fewer motorcycle financing options, there can be differences in the terms and features of motorcycle loans as well. Lenders might want to finance 100 percent of a motorcycle, but it's best to put money down for two reasons: first, your payments will be lower, and second, motorcycles depreciate faster than cars -- they can only sustain upward of 50,000 miles or so. You should be prepared to spend more for insurance on a motorcycle--especially if your bike is considered "high-risk." A high-risk bike has a low windshield, a seat that forces the rider to lean forward and foot pegs set farther back on the bike -- all characteristics that increase aerodynamics and therefore speed. And motorcycle loans often do not extend past 48 months -- unlike cars that can be carried out to 72. Income calculations (DIR ratios) are often the same, and most car and motorcycle finance companies allow a DIR to exceed 50% -- usually the max cutoff for mortgages and non-vehicle loans.

3. Avoid dealership financing if possible. You might find a motorcycle at a dealership, but try not to be persuaded to use its lenders--unless they have the best deals. Cheaper financing can more often be found elsewhere. Start at local banks and community credit unions, which might not provide motorcycle financing but can offer recommendations.

4. Obtain insurance. (See resources to begin this search.) You'll have a variety of choices of agents and programs, but to obtain any sort of financing, you'll need proof of insurance. Your agent will provide you with a "deck page"--a document proving your coverage, the dates during which it applies and the price. Bring this with you to your lender.

5. Review all options before deciding on a length of loan (term) and rate. Auto financing often allows a DIR (debt to income) ratio--the amount of monthly obligations versus your monthly revenue--to be much higher than other types of loans (sometimes as high as 70-80 percent). This can lead to taking on too large a payment. Do your own income calculations to make sure you can afford it. For example, if you earn $2,000 per month (before taxes), and your total monthly obligations (including a proposed motorcycle payment) are $800, your DIR ratio is 40 percent -- a fair ratio. Try to keep your DIR under 50 percent.

6. Research potential lenders on the Better Business Bureau's website. See resources for a link. You'll want to make sure you're dealing with a reputable and ethical lender when you agree to a loan agreement. With a solid credit score (at least 660), a fair DIR ratio, acceptable motorcycle insurance and a viable (fully inspected) motorcycle, you should qualify for a solid motorcycle loan.

Do A Rumelt Evaluation Method

Advantage is one of the four Rumelt strategy evaluation crtieria.

Richard P. Rumelt is a professor at the Anderson School of Business at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He developed four criteria to use in the evaluation of a business strategy: consistency, consonance, feasibility and advantage. The Rumelt method is used to evaluate a business strategy by assessing the strategy on each of these four criteria.

Instructions

1. Read and understand the business strategy you are evaluating. Get answers to any questions you have about the strategy before you begin the evaluation.

2. Evaluate the strategy for Consistency. Compare business unit and other functional or departmental strategies within the company to the overall business strategy. Assess how well these strategies are aligned with the overall business strategy. For example, compare the company's sales strategy to the overall business strategy to make sure they are aimed at achieving the same goals.

3. Make an assessment on Consonance. Consider the environmental and other external trends that might impact the business strategy to identify the external influences that support the strategy and those which do not support the strategy. For example, assess how any current or anticipated government legislation will support the business strategy.

4. Evaluate the strategy for Feasibility. Compare the amount of effort required to implement the business strategy with the available resources such as money, time and people to determine the likelihood of a successful implementation. For example, estimate the amount of financial investment needed to implement the strategy and compare that to the available financial resources of the company.

5. Assess the Advantage of the business strategy by evaluating how the strategy will help create and maintain a long-term competitive position in the marketplace. For example, assume that in three years, the business strategy has been successfully implemented and compare the current competitive position of the company to what its competitive position might be in three years.

Towing Capacity Of A 1996 Winnebago Rialta

Following in the footsteps of the Renault-based LeSharo, the Winnebago Rialta was produced from 1994 until 2005 as the motor home manufacturer's compact, front-wheel drive offering. This streamlined RV is considered a Class C or a "Class B-plus" and rides on an extended Volkswagen EuroVan cab-chassis.

Dimensions

The 1996 Rialta measured 20 feet 8 inches long with a 152-inch wheelbase. Later, Rialtas added a foot of overall length as the series continued. The gross vehicle weight rating is 7,000 pounds on early models and 7,275 on later Rialtas. The gross vehicle combined weight rating is 9,000 pounds, rising to 9,275 on the later vehicles, which enables the Rialta to safely tow up to 2,000 pounds.

Equipment

The 1996 model is powered by a 2.5 L five-cylinder engine, while 1997 and later Rialtas have a more powerful 201-horsepower 2.8 L V6 engine. The compact Rialta is easy to maneuver and can get up to 21 mpg on the freeway. It's still a fully self-contained motor home in spite of its small size, however. Standard equipment on the Rialta includes a water heater and water pump, rooftop air conditioner, bathroom with shower, a stove and a 20-gallon fresh water tank.

History

Winnebago built approximately eight thousand Rialtas during the production run, which actually outlasted the Eurovan's production by two years. It was replaced in the lineup by a larger, Mercedes Sprinter-based Class B RV.

Mount The Windshield On My Harley Davidson Softtail

If you are taking your Harley Davidson Softail on a road trip, adding a windshield can pay huge dividends in making the ride more comfortable and reducing fatigue. On a road trip, wind fatigue can be a factor in your ability to stay on your Harley for long periods of time. Having a windshield between you and the wind can make the trip less tiring. Mounting a Harley windshield is fairly easy, and the installation kit comes with all the necessary parts, including flat and thick washers, mushroom screws, buttonhead screws, rubber bushings and a front panel strip.

Instructions

1. Locate the mounting holes on the side of the front forks next to the head lamp. Line up and place the panel strip against the holes on the front forks. Starting at the top and working out from the forks, insert a mushroom screw through a flat washer, a rubber bushing and a thick washer and hand-tighten. Snug the screw with either the socket wrench or the Allen wrench, as appropriate. Repeat the process on the bottom hole using a buttonhead screw. Torque the screws to 96 in.-lbs. Repeat the process on the other side.

2. Grab the windshield firmly on the left and right side. Lower the windshield into the grooves between the rubber bushings on both sides of the fork assembly and and lock it in place. Pivot the windshield toward the rear of the bike until the jaws on the windshield assembly lock onto the upper rubber mounting bushings. Press the windshield firmly into place.

3. Test ride the motorcycle to make sure the windshield is secure. The wind hitting the windshield actually helps hold it in place. If the windshield rattles or moves, make any final adjustments after you get home.

Make Your Own Harley Tools

This man may make his own tools.

In the golden age, before electric starters, when every motorcycle needed to be literally stomped into life with a booted, right foot, old school bikers regularly built their own motorcycles, made their own parts and imagined their own tools. Many of these tools were improvised, on the spot, in the middle of unexpectedly difficult repairs to solve some problem. Their manufacture and use became shop lore. Here are three classic examples: the specialty angled wrench; the magnetized screwdriver of exactly the right size; and the "spare tire" club bikers can fold up and carry in their bags. These examples of things men once did are dangerous and are described here for entertainment purposes only.

Instructions

1. Heat the handle of an appropriately sized combination box/open end wrench with a propane or oxyacetylene torch. Heat the handle about two inches, or an appropriate distance, from the box end. Heat until the spot turns dull red.

2. Put the box end in a vise and bend the wrench 90 degrees. Allow the wrench to cool. Remove it from the vise.

3. Heat a spot on the same wrench about 1/2 inch from the box end until it also glows dull red. Put the hot end in the vise and bend the wrench 90 degrees so that the box end is once again parallel to the wrench handle but offset 1½ inches.

4. Allow the wrench to cool. Remove it from the vise and use it to turn otherwise inaccessible nuts in impossible to reach places on your motorcycle.

5. Remove the seat from your motorcycle by loosening the seat bolt with an Allen wrench and access your motorcycle battery. Disconnect both battery cables.

6. Tightly wrap the exact screwdriver you need magnetized with about two feet of insulated, copper wire. Leave about two inches of wire on each end unwrapped.

7. Strip and straighten each end of the insulated wire. Note the approximate distance between the positive and negative terminals on your motorcycle battery. Arrange the stripped ends of the insulated wire wrapped around the screwdriver so they are about the same distance apart as the terminals on your battery.

8. Put on sunglasses. Put on leather gloves. Wrap the handle of the screwdriver with clean, oil free rags.

9. Touch one end of the wire to the positive battery terminal. Boldly touch the other end of the wire to the negative terminal.

10. Drop the screwdriver when it becomes too hot to hold or when the rags begin to smoke after about five seconds. Allow the screwdriver to cool.

11. Remove the insulated wire. Use the magnetized screw driver to retrieve lost screws and bolts in otherwise inaccessible nooks and crannies of your motorcycle.

12. Crimp two threaded hose fittings with a crimper tool to both ends of a five foot section of rubber air hose. Screw tire nozzles, like the ones in gas stations, to both fittings.

13. Pack the hose in your saddlebags when riding across the Mojave or other relatively unpopulated regions with your friends. Use the hose to siphon air from your friend's motorcycle tires when you develop a slow leak.

Old Harleydavidson Clutch Removing Tools

Maintenance of older Harley-Davidson motorcycles, including clutch removal, requires specialized tools.

After a clutch wears down in a Harley-Davidson, you must replace it for effective shifting and safe riding. Clutch removal in an older Harley requires the usual variety of screwdrivers and wrenches, as well as a clutch removal tool BT 41-84l, an IMS diaphragm clutch spring compressor tool and a primary locking bar. You'll also need 10 mm, 14 mm, and 17 mm sockets; a 5 mm Allen socket; 4- and 6-inch extensions; a ratchet; a torque wrench; a 14 mm wrench; and a large slotted screwdriver.

Clutch Removal Tool BT 41-84 Harley-Davidson

To remove the clutch, you'll need to remove the brake light spring, the brake pedal and the right peg mount bracket. You then place the clutch removal tool over the push-rod adjusting screw. Next, you must tighten the push-rod adjusting screw lock-nut against the clutch removal tool, releasing the pressure against the spring tension adjusting nuts.

JIMS Diaphragm Clutch Spring Compressor Tool

This tool simplifies the removal of the retainer ring of the clutch. If you do not plan to replace the steel plates along with the fiber ones, check the steel plates for any signs of wear --- such as discoloration or scoring. Measure the steel plates' thickness to ensure the plates lie within suggested tolerances. Inspect the plates for warping.

Primary Locking Bar

Remove the pressure plate. The throw-out bearing in the center of the basket may fall as you remove the pressure plate. Once you remove the plates, use the primary locking bar to hold the clutch shell in place to prevent it from turning when you remove other parts of the clutch.

What Do The Stamps Mean On Jewelry

Jewelry hallmarking, or "stamping" was created as a way to notify buyers of the purity level of the gold or silver they are purchasing to prevent unscrupulous merchants from claiming that their gold or silver was more valuable than it really was. Other stamps are used to denote jewelry designers and manufacturers.

Gold Marks

In gold jewelry, a stamping of 24 kt or 999 means that it is 100 percent pure gold, 18 kt or 750 means that is 75 percent pure gold, 14 kt or 585 is 58.3 percent pure gold, and 10 kt or 417 is 41.6 percent pure gold.

Silver Marks

A stamping of 925 in silver jewelry means that it is sterling silver and contains 92.5 percent pure silver, with the rest being other metals such as copper. In European jewelry, it is also possible to see hallmarks such as .800 or .813 which also indicate the percentage of pure silver in the piece.

Gold Plated Marks

If a piece of jewelry is gold plated rather than solid gold, it will often be marked with HGE, which means Heavy Gold Electroplate.

Gold Filled Marks

Gold filled items will often be marked with a stamping such as 1/10 18kGF. This means that there is an 18kt gold layer on the outside of the jewelry piece that weighs 1/10th of the total metal in that item.

Platinum Marks

Platinum jewelry that is at least 95 percent platinum will be marked with a PLAT or PT950. Pure platinum is often noted with a PT1000.

Buy An Old Motorcycle

Old motorcycles are classic vehicles.

Motorcycles are motorized two-wheeled vehicles. The dangers that go with a motorcycle are much higher than a car because the rider does not have the protection of a roof if an accident occurs. Despite the dangers, many riders are interested in purchasing motorcycles for personal use, to rebuild and sell, or for a personal collection. Buying an old motorcycle is similar to buying a used motorcycle because it is purchased from a private owner or a used motorcycle dealership instead of a new dealership. The cost will vary depending on the specific bike, the condition of the bike and its age.

Instructions

1. Decide how you will use the motorcycle. This will determine the best type of bike to purchase, based on how it is expected to perform. If the older bike is meant for repairing and fixing before selling for a profit, the type of bike you buy will not make much difference. Otherwise, consider the use of the bike before buying.

2. Set a spending limit. Old motorcycles, especially classic motorcycles, are often expensive. The better looking the motorcycle, the more expensive it becomes. Set a limit for spending to keep from buying a bike that costs too much.

3. Call local used motorcycle dealerships. Find out what is available. Old motorcycles are not always available at dealerships because they are not on the market often.

4. Look online. Online sources, such as eBay, will have motorcycles and other items for sale that are not available elsewhere. Look for the preferred bike online. See what it is selling for and where it is available.

5. Go to an auction. For classic vehicles like cars and motorcycles, an auction is one of the most likely places to look. Search out car auctions and attend if possible. Auctions have restored classic vehicles, so this will set limits on what is available and will cause your costs to rise. If you are planning to restore the motorcycle yourself, you would be better off avoiding the auctions.

What Should I Do With A Broken Xbox 360

What Should I Do With a Broken XBox 360?

Some Xbox 360 problems can be fixed, but it may be cheaper to replace the console than to fix it. An Xbox 360 is basically computer, and it contains some recyclable parts. There are several options to explore when considering what to do with your broken Xbox 360.

Repair It

If your Xbox 360 is still under warranty, contact Microsoft or the vendor you purchased it from to see if the console can be repaired for free. Unless it was damaged from dropping it or spilling something on it, or you modified your Xbox 360, thus voiding the warranty, your warranty may cover repairs.

Paying for repair may not be out of the question. Check with local computer and electronics repair shops to see if your Xbox 360 can be repaired and what the cost will be for the repair.

Search for the symptoms online, starting at the Xbox Support site before moving on to your favorite search engine. If you or a friend are handy at fixing electronics, the repair instructions for your Xbox 360's problem may be posted online. Your Xbox 360 is already broken, so you probably can't make it any worse.

Sell It

There is a market for used game consoles, and someone may be willing to buy your broken Xbox 360 to repair or use for spare parts. Check with shops that deal in used equipment, such as GameStop. You may be able to find a local buyer by listing it online on classifieds sites like Craigslist, or even in the newspaper.

Using an online auction site like eBay will generally get you a fair price. Make sure to charge the correct price for shipping. Even if you don't get much for your broken Xbox 360, it won't cost you anything to send it off to someone who wants it and may be able to give it new life in some form or another.

It is very important to be as honest, up-front and detailed as possible with potential buyers about the problems with your Xbox 360. Did it get banned because you modified the Xbox 360? Did you damage it? Was it the red ring of death? Describe the problems and explain the symptoms. Not only is it fair to the buyer, but being honest about the problems may get you more money for your Xbox 360.

Recycle It

If you are going to buy another game console, see if you can trade in your broken Xbox 360 for credit toward the new one. Some vendors have programs to take your old gear for recycling when you buy a new system.

There are several sites that will recycle your Xbox 360, and perhaps even give you a little money for it depending on its condition and whether or not you send the cords, controller and manuals with it. See the Resources section for links.

Your local recycling center or landfill may be able to recycle your Xbox 360. Call them to see if they can recycle it and what you need to do. Some recyclers may charge a small fee.

The History Of The Harley Davidson Motor Co

Harley-Davidson clubs often caravan on weekends.

The Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company began in 1903 with a one-cylinder motorcycle built in a barn. The fledgling company grew to about 20 employees in its first seven years of existence, and as of 2011 Harley-Davidson possessed 62 percent of the market share of motorcycles with engines 850 cc and larger. While other big motorcycle makers like Indian failed, Harley expanded its reach over the century, albeit with some bumps in the road along the way.

Early Years

Arthur Davidson and Bill Harley built their first motorcycle with a single cylinder featuring a 3.125-inch bore and 3.5-inch stroke. A short while later, Arthur's brother, William, joined the new company. Harley-Davidson produced 11 motorcycles in 1905, and then 154 in 1908. A 1000 cc V-Twin model arrived in 1909, and the V-twin engine became the motorcycle manufacturer's most recognizable feature. The company got a boost when it won a contract with the U.S. military in 1917 to supply 20,000 bikes to soldiers in Europe during World War I. The company had almost 2,000 dealerships around the world.

Growth

Following World War I, Harley focused on the racetrack to test new bikes and to set performance records that would translate into increased sales. In 1921, Harley averaged 100 mph on a board-covered racetrack in Fresno, California. Harley engines increased to 1340 cc in the mid-1930s. A Harley also set a speed record of 136 mph at Daytona Beach in 1937. One development was the creation of the three-wheel Servi-cars for commercial use and law enforcement traffic control. The Harley eagle logo in an Art Deco style began appearing on fuel tanks as the company attempted to stylize its bikes to boost sales during the Depression. With the outbreak of World War II in 1941, Harley ceased most of its civilian manufacturing. Through 1945, it manufactured 88,000 Model WLA Harleys for the U.S. military and about 20,000 bikes for the Canadian military.

Early Postwar Era

At the end of World War II, returning U.S. servicemen purchased surplus military Harleys, since civilian motorcycles had yet to gear up for production. Riders began customizing bikes for racing or just for appearance. They often removed fenders to drop weight or extended the front forks -- a popular customization that evolved into the chopper. But GIs also brought foreign bikes from Europe, including British-made Nortons and Triumphs. In 1959, Japan's Honda introduced its motorcycles to the U.S. market. During this period, big motorcycles suffered an image problem due to negative publicity surrounding outlaw biker gangs. Foreign imports got a foothold in the market, and forced Harley-Davidson to reconsider its position to become more competitive with the imports.

Later Years

Harley thought it found the answer in 1969 with the American Machine and Foundry, which purchased the Harley-Davidson. Under AMF, Harley produced the XLCR 1000 Cafe Racer and the FX 1200 Super Glide. Neither bike looked remotely like a Harley, but pale imitations of the Japanese bikes. They had the big engines, but build quality was poor. Harley enthusiasts howled over their diluted appearance. Harley-Davidson bought back the company from AMF in 1981. It refocused is attention on producing retro-styled Harleys by emphasizing its old-school look. By 2009, Harley tapped into the India motorcycle market.

2003 Harleydavidson Dyna Low Rider Specs

The Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider has a long history. It was introduced in 1977 as the FXS, the first "factory custom" produced by Harley. Harley-Davidson introduced the Dyna family of cruisers in 1991. The FXR line, which included the Low Rider, was discontinued in 1995 and the FXS Low Rider became the FXDL Dyna Low Rider. Harley dropped the Low Rider from its lineup for the 2010 model year.

Engine

The 2003 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider had an air-cooled 1450 cc 45-degree V-twin engine, with two valves per cylinder. Bore and stroke were 3.75 inches by 4 inches and the compression ratio was 8.9 to 1. The maximum torque on the Low Rider was 78.2 foot-pounds at 2,900 rpm. A 49 mm carburetor delivered the fuel-air mixture to the engine.

Transmission

The Dyna Low Rider had a five-speed -- one down, four up -- transmission. A carbon fiber-reinforced belt final drive system transferred power from the engine to the rear wheel. Like most motorcycles, the 2003 Low Rider had a wet, multi-plate clutch.

Body

Harley-Davidson built the 2003 Dyna Low Rider around a steel frame. The Dyna version Low Rider frame was more rigid than the FXR version, providing better handling and less vibration. The 39 mm front fork and adjustable twin rear shock absorbers provided suspension. Front and rear brakes were the rotor type with two-piston calipers. Instrumentation on the Dyna Low Rider included a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, tripmeter and fuel gauge with warning lights for oil pressure, high beam, neutral and turn indicators. Replace The Exhaust On A Jeep Wrangler

Replace the Exhaust on a Jeep Wrangler

You can replace the exhaust system on the Jeep Wrangler in pieces or completely from the engine to the rear of the Jeep. The system uses a header pipe, a catalytic converter, and a muffler and tailpipe assembly. In most cases the muffler and tailpipe assembly is the only section you will replace, unless you are adding a performance system. The entire system bolts together and hangs onto a few rubber hangers for ease of replacement.

Instructions

1. Jack up the Jeep and support all four corners by placing jack stands under the frame rails. Get the Jeep high enough to work comfortably under it while still allowing you to reach all the bolts.

2. Remove the two rubber hangers that hold the tailpipe assembly behind the axle. They will just pull off the mounts on the frame with a little effort.

3. Locate the flange where the muffler and tailpipe assembly joins the catalytic converter. Remove the two bolts, using a wrench or socket and ratchet, and separate the flange. Slide the muffler and tailpipe out from under the Jeep.

4. Locate the flange at the front of the catalytic converter, and remove the three bolts in that flange using a wrench or socket and ratchet. Remove the converter from the Jeep by sliding it out of the rubber hanger to the left side of the converter.

5. Locate the four studs on the base of the exhaust manifold where the head pipe attaches. Remove the four nuts using a deep socket and ratchet.

6. Remove the head pipe by lowering it down from the Jeep. Install the new head pipe by sliding it up into position and installing the four nuts onto the studs. Do not tighten them completely yet.

7. Install the new catalytic converter by first sliding the mounting rod into the rubber mount under the Jeep. Align the mounting flange with the one on the head pipe, and loosely install the three mounting bolts.

8. Slide the new muffler and tailpipe assembly into position under the Jeep, and slide the two mounting rods into the rubber mounts on the frame rail. Align the mounting flange with the flange at the back of the catalytic converter, and install the two bolts that connect them.

9. Start at the head pipe and tighten the bolts, working your way toward the back of the Jeep until all the bolts are tight. Check each location where the pipes join to be sure there are no exhaust leaks.

Install Vance & Hines Shortshots

Vance & Hines Shortshots are an aftermarket exhaust system for a variety of motorcycles made by Honda, Yamaha and Harley Davidson. Shortshots add a custom, straight-pipe appearance to the motorcycle while including street-legal mufflers and stock mountings for no-drill, no-weld installation. Shortshot pipes are featuree staggered, slash-cut ends and a 220-degree heat shield. Installation on the Harley Davidson FXR Super Glide is typical for a model powered by the popular Evolution series of engines.

Instructions

1. Remove the stock exhaust pipes.

2. Evaluate the stock exhaust gaskets and replace any that appear worn or defective.

3. Bolt the muffler mounting bracket, marked "278," to the transmission housing using the two 5/16-inch by 7/8-inch original equipment flange bolts, the 5/16-inch by 3/4-inch Allen bolt and 5/16-inch washers. Insert the two 5/16-inch by 7/8-inch original equipment flange bolts through the back of the mounting bracket before you tighten it to the transmission housing.

4. Spread the supplied tube clamp and slide it over the exhaust port end of the front head pipe.

5. Mount the OEM circlips and flanges on the front and rear Shortshot head pipes.

6. Slip one supplied dog bone-shaped nut plate beneath the bracket on the back of the front head pipe. Bolt the flat bracket (marked "279") to the head pipe with one supplied 5/16-inch by 5/8-inch flange bolt. Don't tighten yet.

7. Install the front head pipe using the original equipment nuts. Don't tighten yet.

8. Line up the tube clamp with the bracket just under the cam cover. Insert a 3/8-inch by 1-inch bolt with washer through the top of the tube clamp. Place another washer on the bolt and secure with a 3/8-inch lock nut.

9. Align the #279 bracket with the #278 muffler mounting bracket. Insert the 5/16-inch by 7/8-inch flange bolt into the dog bone nut plate on the rear of the front head pipe. Don't tighten yet.

10. Slide another dog bone-shaped nut plate beneath the bracket on the back of the rear head pipe.

11. Install the rear head pipe using the original equipment nuts. Don't tighten yet.

12. Bolt the rear head head pipe to the 279 and 278 brackets with 5/16-inch flange bolts.

13. Situate the pipes so that they appear parallel from the right side of the motorcycle.

14. Tighten the 5/16-inch head flange bolts on the front and rear head pipes. Tighten the exhaust port nuts on the front and rear head pipes. Tighten the front head pipe clamp bolt.

15. Unscrew the clamp screws on all supplied hose clamps so that they're fully open. Insert the tail end of the hose clamp into the retainer clips on the heat shields. Position the heat shields over the head pipes and turn the hose clamps so that the clamp screws are accessible. Tighten the hose clamps.

16. Loosen the baffle bolt on the back of the head pipes and adjust the baffles at the end of the pipes so that the endcaps are flush with the ends of the heat shield. Tighten the baffle bolt.

17.Verify that all hardware is properly tightened.

3. Use a butter knife to carefully shave 3/4 tsp. of powdered eyeshadow into a small dish. If there are any clumps in the makeup, press them down with the knife to transform them into a fine powder.

4. Add 1 tsp. of your chosen lotion to the powder and stir until the powder is evenly worked into the lotion. Transfer the mixture into a small container with a tight fitting lid.

5. Apply your new foundation to your skin using your fingertips or an applicator sponge. Always apply foundation using circular motions, beginning at the center of your face and working out.
