Branding is a common method of marking the ownership of cattle and other livestock.
Branding is a permanent, effective method of proving ownership. The practice, commonly used on cattle, can be traced back as far as 2700 B.C., with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics depicting the branding of oxen. Ancient Romans and Greeks applied these marks of ownership to both livestock and slaves with hot irons, and in 1541, Hernando Cortez brought the practice from Spain to the New World. Today, there are thousands of different cattle brands, and though reading them may look complicated, it is not too difficult if you follow a few rules.
Instructions
Read Cattle Brands
1. Learn some history. The background of a brand can affect its design. For example, early Spanish brands are more elaborate than many modern brands. To trace the history of a particular brand, you will need to know the county and state that used it. Contact the county clerk and inquire about the brand records book.
2. Study the "language" of branding. Brands are made up of capital letters, numbers, simple pictures, and even characters and symbols, such as slashes, circles and bars. Pictures are typically alone, but letters, numbers and symbols often are in combination, and even their positioning is important. They may be upright, slanted or "lazy," hanging, combined, connected, or reversed. The ability to read cattle brands by decoding these various combinations is known as "callin' the brand."
3. Follow the directions. You read cattle brands from left to right and from top to bottom. For example, a bar symbol followed by the letter J is read as a Bar J brand. If the brand is enclosed, read the outer symbol first. For instance, a J with a circle surrounding it is a Circle J brand.
Iron-on patches are embroidered fabric patches with a mild adhesive backing that, when warmed by ironing, adhere the patch to fabric. Iron-on patches are available in a variety of designs, including cartoon figures, animals, letters, numbers, and flowers. When properly applied, iron-on patches are machine washable. There are numerous ways to use iron-on patches. Does this Spark an idea?
Hide Imperfections
An iron-on patch is perfect for covering stains or holes in fabric. Select a patch that is slightly larger than the stain or tear. To draw attention to a patch, choose one with a lot of patch coverage. (Patch coverage refers to how much of the patch is embroidered.) A patch embroidered on 100 percent of its surface will stand out, while patches embroidered on 50 percent of its surface will be less noticeable.
Cover tears in jeans by choosing a large denim iron-on patch. Iron denim patches over holes in jeans from either the outside or the inside of the pant leg. If you patch from the inside, the tear will look like a slice in the denim from the outside.
Make It Personal
Iron-on patches are excellent for adding initials or names to fabric. Iron on initials or names to beach towels, kids' canvas overnight bags, backpacks, tote bags and sports bags for quick identification. Personalize jackets, hats and purses with patches. Decorate aprons or tote bags as gifts. Personalize bath towels with names, initials or a motif that matches your bathroom. Add flair to throw pillows with an iron-on patch.
Apply an Applique
Applique patches are more precisely cut and detailed than embroidered patches. Applique patches are either iron-on or sew-on. Iron on an applique patch if you like the look of patches but require a more formal or sophisticated look.
Warning
Do not iron patches onto leather, waterproof rain wear, stretchy material or nylon fabric. For these delicate or heat-intolerant fabrics, sew the patch on instead.

Review all financing options before you purchase a used motorcycle.
If you are in the market for a used motorcycle you might need help paying for it. There are a few sources you can tap into to get a motorcycle financed. Review all of your options before you choose a financing source. By shopping around you might be able to save money with a lower interest rate and better terms.
Instructions
1. Visit a local bank and fill out a loan application. You will need to provide personal information like your name, address, social security number, phone numbers, date of birth, place of employment, and three to four personal references. You also will be asked for financial information, such as your income, bank accounts and credit card accounts. The bank employee will review your file to see whether you qualify for a loan, and at what terms.
2. Review the terms and conditions of the loan if you are approved. Depending on the amount, you might not need to put up the motorcycle as collateral. If no collateral is needed your loan will be unsecured, also known as a signature loan. The sales associate will go over the loan amount, payment schedule, interest rate and other terms.
3. Pay with a credit card. If you can't get a bank loan and you have a high-limit credit card, you can use it to purchase the motorcycle. You should read the terms of the credit card carefully because some carry high interest rates.
4. Check with the dealership to see what type of financing is available. Compare the financing offered by the dealership with your other financing sources. This step could save you money. The interest rate you receive from the dealership will depend on your credit history.
5. Purchase your motorcycle with a home equity line of credit. If you have built up enough equity in your home, you can use the access checks provided by the lender to buy your motorcycle. Payments are usually interest only. This loan is secured with your home.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 is one of the most popular video game systems on the market. Its features include life-like high-definition graphics, DVD-quality video and audio, and in some slightly older models an HD-DVD drive. But as is the case with standard HD-DVD players, it does not have the ability to play the competing Blu-ray format discs.
HD-DVD
HD-DVD players and discs hit stores in March 2006, a few months before Blu-ray players. HD-DVD was manufactured primarily by Toshiba, with studios including Warner Brothers and Universal producing movies in that format.
Xbox 360
Microsoft incorporated HD-DVD technology into the Xbox 360 game system as an optional drive in November 2006, around the same time the Sony PlayStation 3 systems began to be equipped with Blu-ray.
Format War
HD-DVD and Blu-ray were created as an upgrade to DVD but designed to be competing formats and incompatible with each other, forcing consumers to choose. Blu-ray eventually prevailed, and HD-DVD players began to be pulled from stores by mid-2008.
Phase-Out
With the demise of the HD-DVD format, Xbox 360 systems stopped offering the HD-DVD drive in February 2008. Models with the drive will still play the discs, though new titles are no longer sold in stores.
Future
Rumors have circulated for a couple years that Microsoft will incorporate Blu-ray technology into future Xbox versions, but as of 2009, that has yet to happen. To date, Xbox 360 systems with an HD-DVD drive still do not have the capability to play Blu-ray movies.

Since the early days of the automobile, owners have looked to increase the power output of their stock engines. Whether you have an off-road vehicle, street racer, muscle car, truck or SUV, there are most likely aftermarket speed accessories that can raise the power of your engine with little effort or cost.
Intake Manifold Spacer
Intake manifold spacers are an inexpensive way to add a slight gain in horsepower. Depending on the make and model of vehicle, some intake manifold spacers can be purchased for under $100. When these spacers are installed between the intake manifold and the mounting surface on the engine, extra volume is created, which dissipates heat. Since the spacers do not convey heat quickly, the air entering the engine's intake system is cooler, allowing the engine to breathe better.
Cold Air Intake
Cold air intake systems are a little more expensive at just under $400 for some models as of 2010. The stock air cleaner housing is eliminated, and in its place is a less restrictive intake hose and a washable and reusable air filter element. Some manufacturers of these systems guarantee a horsepower gain for your engine.
Underdrive Pulleys
Most engines have belt-driven accessories, such as alternators, power steering pumps, air conditioning compressors and water pumps, that use horsepower to spin. By replacing the stock factory pulleys with a set of underdrive pulleys, the force needed to spin the accessory is reduced, which releases more horsepower for use at the wheels. Depending on the vehicle, underdrive pulleys can cost as little as $100 and dress up the engine compartment to boot.
Performance Mufflers
A vehicle's stock muffler may make the engine quiet, but a less-restrictive performance muffler can add horsepower and a sporty sound that is only slightly louder than the stock units. Some companies offer performance mufflers with different sound levels if an even louder note is desired. A good quality pair of performance mufflers may set you back just under $500, but this is still a rather inexpensive way to add a noticeable gain in power.
Computer Chips
Perhaps the easiest way to increase power is by adding a performance computer chip. Computer chips can cost as little as $100 for some vehicles and add power by changing the tuning of your engine to maximize efficiency. Some power chip companies will program a power chip with your vehicle's specific needs in mind although these chips may cost a little more than the already-programmed units.

It is vital to know the proper torque specs for your aluminum wheels.
Using the appropriate torque to mount aluminum wheels to a vehicle is critical to maintaining safety and performance. This is a fundamental, yet frequently overlooked, issue for both do-it-yourselfers and mechanics. Improperly torquing aluminum wheels can result in damage to the wheels, improper wheel alignment, distortion, unsafe operating conditions and damage to other aspects of the vehicle (if a wheel falls off or fails). Before installing aluminum wheels, it is important to research the proper torque specifications for the wheel type and the vehicle by manufacturer to ensure safe, reliable mounting and operation.
Specifications
Torque specifications for aluminum wheels vary based on the size and diameter of the wheel, application and vehicle. A listed or recommended torque specification for the same wheel may vary per application and vehicle. As such, there is no universal torque specification for aluminum wheels that a vehicle owner should follow. When purchasing aluminum wheels, the manufacturer is the best place to start when searching for the proper specifications and torque procedures. If the manufacturer does not list this information, then car dealerships or trusted aftermarket parts manufacturers are good places to start looking.
Tightening Lug Nuts
Tightening lug nuts in the proper sequence is just as important as torque specifications. Aluminum wheels are no exception. Although the sequence for tightening lug nuts varies depending on the number of lug nuts per wheel, the lug nuts should generally be tightened using a crisscross pattern. This ensures that the wheel mounts firmly and evenly to the rotor surface. On a five-lug wheel, the crisscross pattern will resemble a star if the pattern is traced out on paper. For wheels with different lug patterns, the lugs should be torqued one-quarter turn at a time while rotating from lug to lug through the torque sequence. Generally, the crisscross pattern applies incremental force to opposition sides of the wheel to evenly mount any wheel, albeit aluminum or otherwise. The best place for advice would be a local tire shop or the wheel manufacturer to determine the appropriate torque sequence.
Warnings
Using breaker bars, pneumatic impact guns, air wrenches and other power-assist devices can result in over-tightening and can cause threads on lug nuts or studs to easily become stripped or damaged. Avoid tightening lug nuts according to what feels to be a "snug" fit, or any other tightness subject to even small variation. Without the help of a tools like a torque wrench, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to measure torque by feel.
The Bulova Corporation makes Bulova, Wittnauer, Accutron and Caravelle watches. Bulova also has a Harley-Davidson line that includes wrist watches, FOB and pocket watches for both men and women. All non-leather bands are made of stainless steel. The battery in a Harley-Davidson Bulova watch can be easily changed at home. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Change the Battery in a Harley Davidson Bulova Watch
1. Pop open the back of the watch case using a small screwdriver from your watch kit or a small eyeglass screwdriver. Gently fit the tip of your screwdriver into the small crevice where the removable case back meets the actual case of the watch. Use force to pop the back open by lifting up on the tip of your screwdriver (see link in Resources). Be careful not to scratch the case.
2. Put the rubber gasket to the side. The rubber gasket ensures the watch case is waterproof. It is important to put this back the same way you found it when you are closing the case.
3. Find the watch battery, a tiny circle, and remove it by popping it out with your screwdriver. Put the tip of your screwdriver down the side of the battery and lift the battery up.
The type of battery needed depends on the type of Harley Davidson Bulova watch you have. The smaller women's watches will take a different size battery than the men's watches. The type of battery needed could be etched into the back of the watch case or you will need to look at the current battery to see the required size.
4. Put the new watch battery in the watch. To make sure you did it correctly, flip the watch over to check if the watch is working.
5. Replace the rubber gasket exactly how you found it around the edge of the case.
6. Close the case and listen for a "click" to make sure the back is secure.

The Sportster had single disc brakes front and rear.
The Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 was named for its engine displacement. In 2007, Harley produced nine versions of the Sportster, four of which shared the 883 V-twin engine. These were the XL 883, the XL 883 Low, the XL 883 Custom and the XL 883R. The XL 883 Sportster does not have the added saddlebag storage and passenger comfort of some of its contemporaries, but featured a few improvements on the previous model. These included clutch and brake levers that needed less effort to pull in, and an optional "Smart Security System" that locks the bike for you wirelessly.
Engine
The 883 engine was named after its displacement in cubic centimeters, which is equivalent to 53.9 cubic inches. The Evolution V-twin engine had two valves per cylinder and an overhead pushrod configuration.
The bore and stroke of the engine was 3.0 inches by 3.8 inches and the engine had a compression ratio of 8.91-to-1. The fuel system used regular unleaded gasoline and electronic sequential port fuel injection. The engine was air-cooled, four-stroke and had an electric start. To reduce vibration, the engine was rubber mounted.
Transmission and Chassis
The 2007 Sportster 883 used a chain, for primary drive, and a belt, for rear drive, in the transmission system and the bike had five manual speeds. The Sportster lacked heel/toe shifters and featured footpegs with brake and shift levers. The front suspension used telescopic forks and the rear suspension was a steel twin-sided swing arm with two shock absorbers. The front brake was a single disc of 11.5 inches diameter with two-piston calipers and the rear brake was a single disc of the same diameter with one-piston caliper.
The frame, footpegs and fenders were made of steel while the 13-spoked wheels were made of cast aluminum, with the front wheel 19 inches in diameter and the rear wheel 16 inches in diameter. The front tire was 100/90 R19 57H size and the rear tire was almost two inches wider at 150/80 R16 71H size. Both tires were Dunlops.

Hold the motorcycle upright when refueling to maximize your fuel capacity.
A new motorcycle rider has a lot of information to digest during his first ventures out on the bike. The abundance of information can make simple tasks, such as filling the motorcycle's gas tank, a much more complicated job than it is. In fact, some riders aren't sure if they should fill the tank with their motorcycle standing vertically or on its kickstand. Certainly, both methods will work, but filling the tank with the motorcycle upright will allow the tank to hold more gas. While not substantial, the additional gas can provide a few more miles of fun.
Instructions
1. Pull up the gas pump and flip the motorcycle's kill switch---on the right handlebar---to the "off" position. Turn off the ignition switch.
2. Lower the kickstand and rest the motorcycle onto it. Dismount the motorcycle, if needed to pay for the gas or to pull out your wallet.
3. Unlock the gas tank cap, using the ignition key. Insert the gas pump's nozzle into the gas tank's filler neck.
4. Straddle the motorcycle and lift if off of the kickstand.
5. Pull the gas pump's handle to refuel the motorcycle. Stop filling the gas tank when the nozzle stops automatically or the gas level is approximately one inch below the gas tank's filler neck.
6. Pull the gas pump out of the filler neck and hold it in place to prevent gas from dripping onto the tank. Replace the gas pump onto its holder.
7. Lock the gas cap over the tank's filler neck.
8. Turn on the motorcycle, using the ignition key. Flip the kill switch to the "run" position and start the motor.

The power brake booster in your GM vehicle is responsible for providing vacuum pressure to the brake system. This vacuum pressure greatly enhanced the brake force you are able to apply to the brakes when you press on the brake pedal. If you ever experience problems with your brake system, do some troubleshooting to see if the brake booster is the problem. Since the brake booster is a sealed unit, replace the unit if it fails.
Instructions
Troubleshooting
1. Press on the brake pedal. If the pedal depresses all the way to the floor with little or no resistance, you may have a vacuum leak.
2. Open the hood and check all of the hoses running to the brake booster. Check for any obvious signs of wear or deterioration.
3. Take your vehicle to a lightly traveled road or to an empty parking lot to test the brakes. Traveling no faster than 15 mph, apply the brakes. If excessive brake pedal effort is required to stop, you may have a faulty brake booster. This can be confirmed if your brake pedal travel is to the floor and the hoses connected to the brake booster are not damaged or deteriorated.
Replacing
4. Slide the tube nut wrench over the brake line where it connects to the brake master cylinder. Orient the wrench so that it fits over the tube nut on the end of the brake line connected to the master cylinder.
5. Turn the tube nut counterclockwise to remove. Note the position and location of each brake line. There are four lines total, one for each wheel. They need to be put back in the exact same location on the brake master cylinder when the brake assembly is reassembled.
6. Unplug the electrical connector running to the brake master cylinder reservoir cap.
7. Remove the bolts holding the brake master cylinder to the brake booster.
8. Pull the master cylinder off the brake booster.
9. Remove the four bolts holding the brake booster to the firewall.
10. Remove the cotter pin holding the brake pedal to brake booster connecting pin in place with a pair of pliers. To remove, simply pull the cotter pin straight out.
11. Pull the brake pedal to brake booster connecting pin out. This will disconnect the brake pedal from the brake system.
12. Pull the brake booster out from inside the engine bay.
13. Install the new brake booster. Installation is the reverse of removal.
A sales tax is imposed on items purchased from retail establishments. According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, the state's sales tax rate is 4.225 percent as of October 2010. Counties and cities in Missouri can implement local sales and use taxes but these decisions are rare and must be approved by voters. There are a few steps to take to calculate sales tax after coupons in Missouri.
Instructions
1. Take the total sum of the purchase and subtract the coupon value from the total. For example if the sum is $101 and the coupon total is worth $1 off the price, your new final total after coupons is $100.
2. Multiply the final total by .04225, which is the decimal form of the Missouri sales tax rate of 4.225 percent. For example, if the final total is $100, multiplying it by .04225 gives you 4.22 --- you pay about $4.23 in sales tax.
3. To figure the final cost, add the final total to the amount of sales tax you're paying. For example, if the total bill is $100 and the tax you're paying is $4.225, then the total amount you owe is $104.23. Always round to the nearest hundredth of a decimal.

Modern Chevrolet trucks use torsion bar suspensions for four-wheel-drive models. These front springs have the advantage of size and can be adjusted with small bolts where the bar meets the frame. The average backyard mechanic can adjust the torsion bars of a Chevrolet pickup in about 20 minutes.
Instructions
1. Lift the truck by placing the floor jack on the frame rail directly behind a front wheel and pumping the jack's lever until the wheel is in the air.
2. Place a jack stand onto the frame rail, close to the floor jack. This is to support the vehicle if the floor jack should fail.
3. Locate the torsion bar adjustment bolt, underneath the frame rail directly behind the torsion bar. It is embedded into the torsion bar mount, which has the appearance of a two-plated bracket. Viewing the mount from the underside, it is nestled into the mount and accessible vertically.
4. Mark the torsion bar adjustment bolt with a grease pen by placing a line on the head of the bolt, and a similar line on the mount brace. This is to give a reference for the bolt's original position.
5. Turn the bolt with a socket (18mm for most trucks) clockwise to raise the pressure on the torsion bar. Each full turn will raise the truck about a quarter inch when it is lowered from the jack and stand. Turning the bolt counterclockwise will lower the truck.
6. Lower the truck by removing the jack stand and turning the pressure screw on the jack in a counterclockwise direction slowly.
7. Repeat the process on the opposite side torsion bar adjustment bolt, as they must be turned equally to maintain stability and be level.

It's possible to get larger files on your FAT32 thumb drive.
The FAT32 format does not support single files larger than 5GB, so if you have a file larger than 5GB you cannot put it on your FAT32 thumb drive. Most thumb drives and other portable media devices use FAT32 format, so this setback makes large files less portable, and that just won't do. Get around this problem by compressing the size of the file or by splitting the file up into multiple pieces.
Instructions
RAR File
1. Create a folder for your RAR file and insert a copy of the original file into this folder. RARing a file separates it into multiple pieces, so creating a file specifically for your RAR file will keep the files together allowing you to move one folder to your FAT32 device instead of having to locate and move multiple files.
2. Right click the large file that you want to put on a FAT32 device. Select "Add to archive" from the menu that appears to the side.
3. Select "RAR" from the "Archive Format" located to the left of the menu. Click the arrow next to "Split by volume, bytes," and select "CD 700: 700mb." This will create a new file for every 700mbs, meaning your your one large file will be separated into many 700mb files that can be put back together as a single file later. Click "OK."
4. Put the folder, containing your newly separated files, onto your FAT32 device after WinRAR has finished separating the file.
Zip File
5. Right click the large file you want to put on a FAT32 device. Select "Add to archive" from the menu that appears to the side of the file.
6. Click "OK" on the next menu. This menu allows you to customize the compression settings. The only option you need to change is the "RAR" selection to "ZIP" in the "Archive Format." The Dynojet Power Commander is a module designed to make adjustments to the fuel air mixture on the Harley-Davidson softail as well as other motorcycle brands. This unit can be programmed either with a Windows computer or by using the built-in buttons. Changes made to the mixture are not permanent, and the motorcycle reverts to the original factory settings once the unit is removed. A Power Commander is required for many different engine upgrades, including exhaust systems.
Instructions
1. Remove the seat. Unplug the engine control module (ECM) from the wiring harness, located just beneath the seat. Remove the nuts and take out the ECM.
2. Remove the bolt that connects the seat strap to the rear fender.
3. Remove the ECM bracket. Reinstall the ECM bracket nuts.
4. Connect the positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV) between the stock wiring harness and the ECM. Move the PCV and stock connector as close to the fuse box as possible; this will not remain flat against the motorcycle's frame.
5. Connect the ECM to the rear fender by using the Velcro straps supplied with the Power Commander. Place the ECM as far down the fender as possible.
6. Secure the security module on the right side of the motorcycle next to the tail light connector.
7. Strap the PCV to the top of the battery with Velcro straps.
8. Remove the oxygen sensor cover from the front of the motorcycle. Remove the oxygen sensor from the wiring harness.
9. Plug the oxygen sensor eliminator, supplied with the Power Commander, into the stock wiring harness. The stock oxygen sensor will remain unplugged and unused. Reinstall the sensor cover.
10. Unplug the rear oxygen sensor, under the right hand side of the oil tank, from the stock wiring harness. Plug the second Dynojet oxygen sensor eliminator into the stock wiring harness. The rear stock oxygen sensor will remain unplugged and unused.

The Shovelhead was the best and worst of Harleys, built mostly when Harley was a division of American Machine and Foundry. The engineering was flawed and the assembly was mostly rushed. Yet the Shovel is the most nostalgically-remembered Harley because it was the last engine type before the motor company began marketing itself to the RUBs, the rich urban bikers who actually saved the company. Chassis parts, including shock absorbers, are still very widely available for all Shovels. Anybody will sell you shocks to fit any Shovel and they are almost always better than the originals. Start with new replacement shock absorbers.
Instructions
1. Measure the distance with a steel tape from the middle of the upper shock bolt to the middle of the lower chock bolt for both shock absorbers.
2. Measure the same distances again while an assistant who is about your size sits on the motorcycle.
3. Subtract the difference, which is called "the squat." Do not adjust the shocks if the distance is between 1/2 inch and 1 inch -- because those measurements mean the squat is just right. Adjust the shocks if the squat is greater than 1 inch or less than 1/2 inch.
4. Turn the mechanical pre-load adjusting cam on the bottom of the shock absorber clockwise, with a spanner wrench to increase shock absorber pre-load and decrease squat.
5. Turn the mechanical pre-load adjusting cam counterclockwise with a spanner wrench to decrease pre-load and increase squat.

Knowing a TV's measurements is essential in the process of researching new HDTV sets.
High definition televisions are the de-facto standard for modern television purchases and viewing. New and interesting installation methods, many involving retrofitting existing cabinetry, are being explored every day. Regardless of the design scheme, learning properly measure flat panel HD televisions is an essential requirement when shopping and planning upgraded media systems. Determine HDTV dimensions to arm yourself with more knowledge when making purchasing decisions. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Measure the intended wall surface or cabinet space to determine the space necessary for the new TV. Jot these numbers down in the note pad prior to looking at new sets.
2. Measure the outer cabinet dimensions of the set, vertically and horizontally. Make sure to figure in the total height with stand, and without. Measure the depth of the TV's cabinet. Measure the depth of the stand, since it will be deeper than the set itself.
3. Measure the screen are from corner to corner, measuring only the screen's surface. This will be the viewable screen area.
Lucca is a wonderful example of a Tuscan town, complete with winding narrow lanes and medieval buildings. The sixteenth century city walls limit the amount of traffic inside the city, making the area a quiet place to navigate on foot. There are many sights in Lucca, including a cathedral, museums, churches--and also extremely good food! As in most Italian towns, shopping is an easy way to spend a few hours and lots of money.
Instructions
1. Visit San Michele. This twelfth century church was built on the site of the old Roman forum and offers a fine example of Romanesque architecture. The unique facade consists of three tiers of marble columns, each one carved or twisted differently from the rest. Requiring more than three centuries to complete, the church is decorated with mostly pagan iconography with only the winged figure of St. Michael offering a Christian theme. Admission to the church is free of charge.
2. Explore the Cathedral of St. Martin. Begun in 1063, the Cathedral of St. Marin was constructed over the period of several hundred years. The campanile was built as a defensive tower, with construction of the main cathedral starting much later. The result is a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic styles reflected throughout the structure. The cathedral is open daily, and admission is free.
3. Tour the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. Located in the former Archbishop’s Palace, this museum showcases treasures from the Duomo of San Martino. The collection includes the fifteenth century Croce dei Pisani by Vincenzo di Michele and a Limoges casket created to hold the relics of St. Thomas a Becket. The museum is open daily, but only mornings Monday through Friday.
4. Visit the Casa di Puccini. This fifteenth century house is the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, composer of great operas such as "La Boheme" and "Madame Butterfly." Today it is open to the public and offers a glimpse into the life of one of the twentieth century’s most popular composers. Casa di Puccini is located on the north side of town, just off Via Calderia, and is open daily from October to May.
5. Stroll along the ramparts. The magnificent city walls date to the 1500s and provided defense against the military devices of the time. Today, the ramparts are a public park and offer visitors a great place for picnics.

Motorcycle batteries are susceptible to low temperatures. In fact, temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit can cause them to freeze and crack, so if you do not intend to use your motorcycle for a period of two months or longer, it is recommended that you remove the battery altogether.
Location
Motorcycle batteries are typically located beneath the motorcycle seat. They are usually seated on foam, rubber or other padding material and held in place by a rubber retaining strap.
Connection
Removal of the battery essentially involves removing the protective plastic cover, the retaining strap and the negative and positive cables and lifting the battery from the motorcycle. The negative (black) cable should be removed first and tucked out of the way to prevent shorting with the positive (red) cable.
Storage
Once you have removed the battery from your motorcycle, you should store it on a surface that does not conduct electricity, such as wood. Concrete or metal surfaces should be avoided, because they will cause the battery to discharge quicker.

Modify your motorcycle's exhaust pipes to fit your personal style.
Motorcycles, as with most cars, generally come with a factory stock exhaust system. However, you may eventually decide you want to customize your motorbike's exhaust pipes to reflect your own personal style. To do this, you will need specialized tools, such as pipe and steel benders, and even chrome plating, if desired. With diligence and careful planning, you can bend and modify your motorcycle exhaust pipes into something that is all your own.
Instructions
1. Measure your bike from the head pipe connection to the foot pegs. Then measure from foot pegs to the rear. Use these measurements to sketch a basic shape for your exhaust.
2. Determine how many welds you must make and purchase these tubes for the exhaust. Measure the outside edge of each side; take the larger one and add a foot or so. You are better off with more tubing than less, as extra can be disposed of later.
3. Mark the location of the head pipe where you wish to bend the exhaust. Allow for an extra 6 inches so you can fit the tube in the bender.
4. Heat and bend each pipe quickly. Be careful not to over-bend, as you do not want it to bend backward. Also, add heat shields to protect your motorcycle after any drastic changes. These shields can also be custom designed to blend in with your new pipes.
5. Attach the muffler by sliding it onto your pipes. Attach any extra hardware for the exhaust system, if desired.

HDMI connections are the new darling of high definition audio/video systems. This type of connection, which is available on the newest models of HD TVs, game systems, and Blu-ray players, requires a cable that can run upwards of $50 to $100 at your local electronics store. But, is it really necessary to spend all that money on a cable? Read on to find out.
Instructions
1. HDMI is a digital connection. This means that, in theory, an HDMI cable need only to be "good enough" to consistently and accurately send bits of information (ones and zeros) between two HDMI devices. The cable either transmits the signal, or it doesn't.
This is different from component cables, in which a wider range of quality is apparent depending upon how well the cable shields signal quality. A well constructed cable will deliver a high quality picture. A poorly constructed cable will deliver a poor quality picture--but the picture still gets through.
2. However, contrary to this simple theory, dozens of different HDMI cables are available on the market, each boasting its own special gold-plated, signal-boosting, or "ultra high speed rating" design. To begin, let's take a look at some common claims about HDMI cables and how they apply to average users.
3. ***LENGTH***
Length is the biggest limitation in HDMI cable design. HDMI cables require extra shielding in lengths longer than about 6 to 10 feet. Without this extra shielding, longer cables are unable to transfer data between two devices at all. Therefore, a 25 foot cable will be significantly more expensive than a 6 foot cable.
If you only need to connect a TV to an immediately adjacent DVD player, then a 6 foot cable is plenty long enough for your needs, and at this length, a cheap unbranded cable will really perform just as well as any other.
However, if you need a longer cable, choose a manufacturer in whose quality you are confident. Monoprice and Blue Jeans Cables are relatively inexpensive online dealers who carry both short and long lengths of cables and who receive favorable customer reviews. (Links for all referenced websites are located below in the "Resources" section.)
4. ***RESOLUTION***
Often a salesman will claim that you need a "120Hz" cable to really see high definition on your new equipment. The truth is--there's no such thing as a "120Hz" cable. (See the audioholics link in "Resources.")
There *are* different versions of HDMI (1.3 is the most current) and different categories of HDMI (Category 1 and Category 2). Technically, a Category 2 cable is necessary for a 1080p resolution on an HDTV, whereas a Category 1 cable is good enough for 720p or 1080i resolution TVs. But, even on a high end HDTV, most users will not notice a large difference between different versions and categories of HDMI cables.
That said, a version 1.3 category 2 cable can be purchased inexpensively anyway: A 6 foot cable of this type runs for about $6 on Newegg and $10 on Amazon. (If you're interested, you can find older versions for as little as $2 on eBay.)
5. ***DURABILITY***
If you expect to be moving your equipment frequently (e.g., taking the cables with you every day for your profession), the extra money spent on a more durable cable may be worth it. Monster brand cables are known for their quality construction (and notorious for their large price tags).
For the casual user, however, spending $70 on a Monster cable is overkill. If you just want to connect your Blu-ray player to the TV and tuck the cable out of sight, don't worry about durability. In fact, online cables in the $10 range usually include manufacturer or seller's replacement warranties. If you purchase from an online seller, you also have the benefit of reading reliability reviews posted by other buyers.
6. ***GOLD PLATING***
In the case of HDMI, gold plating will not significantly improve signal quality. However, gold plated cables will last longer--if only because gold never tarnishes. Gold plating alone does not warrant a significant difference in cable price.
7. ***BUYING LOCALLY***
If you prefer to buy locally, follow the advertisements in your local newspaper. Walmart and Target carry cables around $25; sometimes these go on sale. Cables at electronics stores like Best Buy or games stores like Game Stop are more expensive, often starting around $50.
8. ***CONCLUSION***
The truth is, in most cases the average user will see no difference between a cheap, unbranded online cable and a $100 "premium" cable. If you just purchased a new HDTV and Blu-ray player and want to hook them together, buy a cable from a good dealer online and save some money.
For a six foot, version 2, hdmi 1.3 cable, you should not have to pay more than $10~15. Listings at Amazon, Newegg, and Monoprice all fall into this range and have good, consistent customer reviews.

The crankshaft sensor in the modern automobile engine is an integral component. When malfunctioning, the symptoms of a bad sensor are easily recognizable to the motorist and should be handled quickly to avoid being stranded and risking additional engine components.
History
As computer systems became more integrated into the operating of the internal combustion engine, the need for monitoring its many complex components became necessary. Crank sensors were developed using a combination of magnets and an inductive coil and are commonly mounted near the main crank pulley, flywheel or on the crankshaft itself. It is one of the most important sensors of modern internal combustion engines.
Function
The crankshaft sensor monitors the relationship between valves and pistons in the engine to maintain the variable valve timing. It is also measures the engine's speed by calculating revolutions per minute. The crankshaft sensor is in effect a catcher in a baseball game, calling the game so the pitcher (the engine) can fire the appropriate function, or pitch,
Types
Most crank sensors function as magnets and an inductive coil. Newer sensors have been built to operate under the Hall Effect, which produces a voltage difference across an electrical conductor to create a magnetic field. This semiconductor eliminates the need for an inductive coil and magnets. Crank sensors are also used on bicycles to supervise the position of its crankset.
Symptoms of Problems
When a crankshaft sensor has failed or is failing, certain timing problems will arise in engine function. The engine may start normally in some cases, but will cut off after a few minutes (or seconds) of operation. More than likely the engine will be unable to start at all. Since the crankshaft sensor is responsible for engine timing, the driver may experience engine backfire or irregular rpm function, if the vehicle starts at all.
Solutions
The crankshaft sensor will have to be replaced if it is malfunctioning. Consult a local auto mechanic that specializes in the particular manufacturer of vehicle being driven to secure the parts and labor in order to get the vehicle running properly. Avoid employing used parts for integral engine components as they have a greater chance of failure than newer equipment.

Starting a motorcycle may sound simple, but it isn't always so easy. Every engine has its own starting procedure. It is most difficult to start a motorcycle when the engine is cold, because the carburetor does not vaporize fuel as well. So, if you have been frustrated while trying to get the engine humming, here is how you can start her up easily every time.
Instructions
1. Determine the kind of carburetor on your motorcycle. Is it an enriching circuit, a float plunger or a choke?
2. Turn on the fuel and ignition and pull the enriching lever, if you have an enriching circuit. Leave the throttle closed, as it will stop the enriching circuit from functioning properly and either kick-start the engine or push the starter.
3. Hold the plunger down until the carburetor floods, if you have a float plunger carburetor. Then open the throttle between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch and push the starter or kick-start the engine.
4. Put on the choke after turning the ignition and fuel, if you have a choke type carburetor. Then open the carburetor throttle between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch and kick-start the engine or push the starter.
5. Experiment with the engine. These instructions will start most motorcycles, but as the engine gets older and has more and more miles, you will have to change the drill a bit. Try opening the throttle a bit more, or a bit less. Maybe you can open the throttle for one kick and then close it again. Play around a bit.

Unfortunately motorcycle boots are the least considered piece of protective equipment the new, or even experienced motorcycle rider wears. Often motorcycle riding boots are an afterthought, i've even seen some riders wear sneakers! I always say dress for the crash, not for the ride. A good pair of motorcycle boots can protect you AND be comfortable. Here are some things to look for when shopping for a new pair of motorcycle boots.
Instructions
1. Decide on the type of Men's motorcycle boot. You have standard, racing boots, short boots and even shoes.
Standard motorcycle boots go over the ankle and are often reinforced. They also provide protection from exhaust heat. You can wear these easily off the bike.
Race boots on the other hand are made specifically for racing and are difficult to walk, they are heavily armored over the impact areas.
Short boots are just that, short, they provide less protection from exhaust heat but are comfortable to wear off the bike
Motorcycle shoes are reinforced, but provide little protection and reinforcement. They're comfortable, but not the best motorcycle riding boots out there.
2. Choose a pair of motorcycle riding boots that has good ankle protection, preferably reinforced. Good solid ankle protection can give you confidence, and extra strength in case your bike starts to tip on the road.
3. Some motorcycle boots have shifter pads, if you need this it's a great feature to have. Get a pair of motorcycle boots with reinforced shifter pads, they'll be more comfortable and last longer.
4. Make sure the heal and sole are top quality and reinforced. A good heal will give you stability and grip in all weather, a major consideration when coming to a stop in the rain, or over oil.
5. Motorcycle boots should be make of leather, for extra breath ability some Men's motorcycle boots have ventilation areas made of Gortex. Consider well ventilated motorcycle riding boots for the summer months.
6. Make sure the impact areas are armored. Good quality motorcycle riding boots have Kevlar inserts around the ankle, heal and calf. I can't stress enough the importance of proper protection, after all, that's why you're getting a pair of motorcycle riding boots.
7. Often overlooked, but definitely should be considered is the closing mechanism, is it Velcro, zipper, straps or laces? Good quality motorcycle boots will have a system to keep loose material away from moving parts.
8. Without a doubt choose motorcycle boots that are water resistant. It's much more fun to ride when your feet are dry and well protected by a great pair of motorcycle riding boots.
9. When you're ready to buy a great pair of Men's motorcycle boots I'd suggest an online merchant. They'll list all the important stats of the pair of motorcycle boots you're interested in and, if they're a reputable company like NewEnough.com or LeatherUp they'll allow you to exchange them for a different pair of motorcycle riding boots if they don't fit perfectly.
10. Remember to read motorcycle boot reviews too, all shoes feel great in the store, but how about after an hour on the road. Read motorcycle boot reviews to see what others are saying about the Men's motorcycle boot you are considering.

Push the new cover into place by hand, using enough pressure to expose the threads on the end of each stud. Thread a provided lock nut onto the end of each stud by hand.
9. Refer to the instructions and your service manual to determine the preliminary spring-force torque for the racing clutch. Tighten the lock nuts to the specified torque using your torque wrench.
10. Put the saved operating rod and lifter into the center of the new clutch cover. Position the new primary case gasket on the primary case. Reattach the factory primary case cover using the saved bolts. Fill the chain case with the recommended oil.
Assuming that you've signed up for a cable package and received your equipment from your provider, connecting cable to an LCD TV is really a matter of determining connection type, purchasing a few cables and plugging in a few connectors. The hardest part is examining your equipment. From there, you'll know exactly what you need and can get connected.
Instructions
High Definition
1. Use an HD connection. If you have a high-definition cable receiver and cable package, you'll want to get the most for your money, so be sure you make an HD connection from your cable box to your LCD TV. Available HD terminals will vary by equipment, but you will need to use one of the following: HDMI, DVI or component cables (red, blue and green video cables).
2. Check the back of your TV and the cable box to see what connections are available from the possible HD options. HDMI is the best connection, so use it when both the cable box and TV are equipped with a port. DVI is the next best option and component video is the last option for HD.
3. Purchase your HD cable and connect. Each connection type requires a specific cable or cable set that is probably not included with your cable box, so you'll need to run to the electronics store to buy the appropriate cable.
4. Plug the cable into the appropriate output on your cable box. HDMI and DVI ports will be labeled; simply plug one end of the cable into the port. Component video uses three separate jacks (blue, green and red). Connect the color-coded cables to these jacks by plugging them in.
5. Plug the other end of the cable or cables into the television's video input.
Standard Definition
6. Connect for standard definition. If you don't have a high-definition cable receiver, you should have a number of different options for connecting. Component video is an option that many televisions include and is the best choice for standard definition. Also choose from S-video or composite video based upon the available terminals on your equipment. You could also connect with regular coaxial cable.
7. Purchase the appropriate standard definition cables.
8. Plug the cable into the labeled output on your cable box, then plug the other end into the input on the TV. If you're using a coaxial connection, you'll probably need to screw the connection tight. Otherwise, just push the connector into the jack.
Audio
9. Connect audio. The easiest method for connecting the two-channel audio on your TV is to use the red and white RCA outputs on your cable box. This method is the least expensive, and your cable box may have even come with these cables. Alternately, HDMI provides audio as well as video, so you only need one connection if you're using HDMI. You could also use a digital cable like optical or coaxial if your receiver and television are equipped with matching jacks.
10. Plug the audio cable into the audio output on the cable box.
11. Run the cable to the correct audio input on the television. Plug in the other end(s).

Motor oil is very important because it keeps a car's engine from overheating and becoming damaged. Drivers want the best oil they can afford for their cars. One of the most difficult choices, according to Popular Mechanics, is the choice between synthetic and mineral or organic oil.
Characteristics
According to Automedia, synthetic oil is made by creating big molecules from small ones. Conventional oil is comprised of both short- and long-chain atoms. High heat can cause the short-chain atoms to break down, causing the molecules themselves to break down. Contaminants and unstable hydrocarbons can also sneak through the refining process. Synthetic oils seek to solve these problems.
Types
Full synthetics are made for high-performance "muscle" cars. They flow better at low temperatures and lubricate better at high temperatures, but are expensive. Synthetic blends have organic oil mixed with synthetic oil and provide better protection for heavier loads and high temperatures, according to Popular Mechanics. These blends are often used in pickup trucks and SUVs and are not much more expensive than conventional premium oils.
Uses
Synthetics can give better cold weather starting in cold climates, according to Popular Mechanics. High-end and high-performance cars often come from the factory with synthetic oil, and Popular Mechanics recommends that drivers of these vehicles stick with this oil. Automedia says that overall, synthetics are better, but for those who cannot afford them mineral oil will suffice as long as they follow the owner's manuals recommendations on viscosity and grade.

An example of a market penetration strategy is when a bookstore encourages readers to buy several volumes at once.
A marketing strategy is the firm's roadmap to success. It is based on an analysis of internal strengths and weaknesses as well as marketplace opportunities and threats. The strategy identifies not only the company's goals, such as revenue or profits, but also how it plans to achieve them. Four generic alternatives include market penetration, market development, product development and diversification.
Market Penetration
Market penetration is a strategy aimed at building sales among customers who already purchase the firms' products. It assumes that these buyers can also be convinced to buy the same goods in larger volume or with increased frequency. For example, bookstores try to entice readers to buy multiple books at once. Restaurants push drinks and desserts along with entrees. Market penetration strategies are commonly implemented through discounts, advertising and other promotions targeted to repeat purchasers.
Market Development
If the firm believes there is untapped potential in the marketplace for its products, it may choose a market development strategy. This means pursuing new customers for existing products. One common approach to market development, used aggressively by companies like Starbucks and McDonalds, is expanding distribution to a region where the firm has had no presence. Another is promoting new uses for existing products, like suggesting the use of soup mix as a general flavoring ingredient.
Product Development
This alternative means creating new products for current customers. It enables marketers to build on its knowledge of existing buyers, as well as build on present networks of salespeople, vendors and distributors. For example, Dunkin Donuts used a product development strategy when it introduced gourmet coffees to compete more effectively with Starbucks. Fast food companies have also chosen this approach to add salads and other healthy selections to its original hamburger-based product lines.
Diversification
A diversification strategy is generally considered the most risky alternative, because it involves both creating new products and seeking new customers. Marketers must carefully study the competition as well as the needs and wants of people they have not previously served. However, diversification can pay off handsomely for firms that carve out a niche in a promising market. For example, Disney successfully diversified its entertainment business into cruise lines and various real estate ventures.
