Regular Cab

This cab option provides room for groceries and children and is often used by vehicle owners with small families. This cab is also used on chassis trucks, such as fire truck rescue vehicles, which will add work boxes or other options to the chassis.


Super Crew Cab


For those who have a large family or who will be transporting crews or passengers on a regular basis, the super crew cab is the logical choice. This option is available on the XL, XLT, Lariat, FX4, King Ranch, Platinum and Harley Davidson editions. The super crew can serve as an everyday mode of transportation, while doubling as a work vehicle. Extended periods of travel are also possible for passengers, with its 41.4 inches of leg room up front and its 43.5 inches of leg room in the rear.

Connect a DVR to a Television


The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is a device that records programs from the television into a digital format. The method to hook up a DVR will depend on whether you are connecting directly to a television or through other accessories, such as surround sound or a language-filter device.


Instructions


1. Determine if you will use a coaxial cable connection, digital, RCA or S-video outputs. Be sure to mark the cables to identify the connection point. Using cable labels is an easy way to tell which cables connect to the various ports.


2. Determine the channel output that is required by the television and DVR and hook up a cable to the television's tuner port.


3. Plug in the power for the DVR and set the TV to the appropriate channel, depending on your DVR instruction manual. The most common channels are 00, 3, 4 or 99.


4. Connect the yellow RCA video cable from the DVR output to the television's RCA video input. Another option is to connect the S-video cable from the DVR output to the television's S-video input. A third option is to go digital.


5. Connect the red-and-white RCA audio cables from the DVR outputs to the television's audio inputs matching the red and white connections. If your TV is older or has only one input for audio, use the right-side RCA audio output on the DVR. Other color-coded cables (red, green and blue component video) are present on digital televisions and DVRs.


6. Plug in the power supply for the DVR and turn it on. Depending on the type of DVR, there will be a setup screen to complete the process.


7. Hook up the receiver to the satellite or cable input by locating the "Satellite In" port and connecting the appropriate cable or cables (if more than one port is used). These cables will be supplied by the provider of service, or specific requirements will be stipulated in the install instructions.

Harley Davidson Softail Specifications

Harley Davidson Softail motorcyles are luxury cruisers with intelligent electronic transmissions.


The Harley-Davidson Softail family is named for its hidden horizontal rear shock absorbers. The Heritage Softail Classic was released in 1986, followed by the Springer Softail in 1988. The first softail transmitted power from a 1,340-cubic centimeter, V-twin, Evolution engine, which idled cooler and did not leak oil like its predecessor. The Softail Deuce, which appeared in 2000, upgraded the Softails to Twin-Cam, 88-B engines. Fuel injection was added in 2001.


Softail Heritage Classic


The Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycles look like retro hardtail bikes, but they have comfortable rear suspension. The shock absorbers are positioned horizontally and hidden under the transmission. The Softail engines are mounted directly on the metal frame which causes vibrations and sounds, known as "Harley vibes." The Softail family offers a choice of front forks and suspensions.


The Softail Heritage Classic FLSTC is large frame with FL-type front forks. The "ST" designation means softail, and the "C" means classic and implies a 16-inch wheel. In 2011, the Harley-Davidson Softail Classic has a 1,584-cubic centimeter engine, a low seat -- 25 to 27 inches high -- and a horseshoe shaped oil tank. New features in 2011 include hand controls, a large odometer and anti-lock brakes. The anti-lock braking system, ABS, prevents the motorcycle's wheels from locking when the driver applies the brakes. The wheels continues to act with the roads surface as directed by sensors in the brake and throttle body improving control of the motorcycle.


Fat Boy


The 2011 Harley-Davidson Softail Fat Boy cruiser keeps the chopper heritage of the '60s alive. The Fat Boy is a Softail-family motorcycle with a V-shaped engine and cylinders 45 degrees apart. The distinctive Harley sound results from the second spark plug firing 315 degrees after the first spark plug. Laid-back and luxurious in 2011, the Fat Boy, with brilliant chrome rocker covers, a chrome mirror and dual chrome exhaust mufflers, converts engine power directly to speed. The 1,584-cubic centimeter Twin Cam, 96B air-cooled engine with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection, ESPFI, an engine torque of 93.7 foot-pounds at 3,000 rpm and six-speed transmission, gets 35 mpg in the city and 54 mpg on the interstates. The electronic speedometer, mounted on the five-gallon gas tank, displays an odometer, digital clock, trip meter, fuel-level indicator, low oil pressure light and engine diagnostics. The Fat Boy Dunlop's front tire is 140/75R17 67V, and the rear tire is 200/55R17 78V for a smooth confident ride and excellent traction when braking. Optional anti-lock brakes, part of the 2011 H-D Smart Security System, are in the the wheel hub.


Softail Deluxe


The 2011 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe is a retro-style cruiser. The 2011 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe FLSTN has a wide front-end fork and 7-inch motorcycle headlight. White wall tires enhance the 1950s boulevard effect. The Softail Deluxe Twin Cam 96BTM engine transmits 93.67 foot-pounds of torque at 3,000 rpm via a six-speed transmission. The Twin Cam 96B engine contains two push-rod valves per cylinder with self-adjusting lifters. Fuel injection is sequential electronic. The front brake rotor is 11.5 inches by .20 inches, and the rear wheel rotor is 11.5 by .23 inches. The Softail Deluxe seat is 24.5 inches high with a detachable passenger seat.

Differentiate 1080i And 1080p Picture Quality

For all practical purposes, there is no appreciable difference between 1080i and 1080p picture quality. The distinction is largely beyond the human eye's ability to pick up, even on the largest HD televisions. Furthermore, as of early 2008, no television broadcasts are available in 1080p, and the only practical places where you can find it are on HD DVDs, Blu-Ray DVDs and certain high-end computer monitors. You can differentiate between 1080i and 1080p picture quality, however, if you understand the distinctions within the technology itself.


Instructions


1. Learn what the "i" stands for in 1080i: it means "interlaced," which refers to the way in which the number of pixels are displayed. The pictures consist of 1,080 horizontal pixels, but in an interlaced television, the camera samples only half of them at any time: the odd-numbered pixels are sampled in one scan, and then the even numbered pixels in the next. Each scan lasts just 1/60 of a second, so when they are "interlaced" together, they give the nearly invisible impression of a unified image.


2. Discover what the "p" stands for in 1080p: "progressive." Unlike 1080i, the 1080p image shows all 1,080 horizontal pixels at the same time. This cuts down on incidental side-effects of 1080i, such as line twitter and combing, which are usually invisible to the naked eye but can have a slight effect on the picture quality.


3. Examine the images on the biggest TV you can: 50 inches or 55 inches at the minimum. If you have one of your own, fine, but it might pay to visit a local electronics store and ask for a demonstration of the differences between 1080i and 1080p.


4. Check how your system de-interlaces a 1080i signal. With the exception of a few older models, all entertainment systems will de-interlace the signal. Cheaper ones will simply drop the image quality to 540 pixels, while top-of-the-line models will "properly" de-interlace the image to a full 1,080 pixels.


5. Examine images that involve objects moving across the screen on systems with cheaper de-interlacers and compare them to ones de-interlaced to 1,080 pixels. The still image in the 540 pixel version will look blurrier or exhibit a slight twitter, matching the moving image. With a 1080 image, only the moving object will twitter, while the stationary objects will look much sharper--allowing you to differentiate between them.

Appraise A Used Jeep

Jeeps are 4-wheel drive vehicles made to go off-road and be abused. However, since not everyone treats them this way, you'll find a wide spectrum of conditions and prices of Jeeps. It is your job as a smart consumer to find the actual value of your prospective Jeep while shopping.


Instructions


1. Check out the car in person. Find out what kind of shape the frame and engine are in. Also make sure you are aware of the year, make and model of this Jeep. Pay close attention to added letters in the model. An XL model is different than an XV model and can complicate the appraisal process.


2. Search online and at car lots for similar Jeeps and find out how much they are selling for. You need to do a lot of inspection while looking, because while the year and make might be the same, mileage and overall condition of the Jeep can raise or lower the value. Research yours to make sure you have found a similar Jeep (see Resources below).


3. Look at Edmunds.com, an automotive review website. This site should tell you what a good value for a Jeep in any condition should be. This website is quite comprehensive but does not go back to vehicles made before the 1980s (see Resources below).


4. Compare these finding with the Kelly Blue Book Value. This is considered the definitive text on automobile values. Compare these two websites to get an idea of a proper appraisal for the Jeep (see Resources below).


5. Read what people are saying about this model of Jeep. There are countless forums dedicated to Jeep owners. Here you will find out whether your specific car is a good deal or a bad one.

Get More Power Out Of A Sportster 1200

Replace stock components to increase power.


The Sportster 1200 is a small, agile motorcycle propelled by Harley-Davidson's 1200cc Evolution v-twin motor. For most riders, the power provided by the motor is more than adequate. However, the Sportster's motor can begin to feel slightly subdued after a while, sending its owner in search for more power. Most methods to maximize your Sportster 1200's potential can be performed in your own garage using basic hand tools and involving the replacement of stock components. Major motor work and tuning, however, requires extensive, and costly, mechanical work.


Instructions


1. Replace the stock air intake system. The factory-equipped air intake system is restrictive, allowing a smaller amount of air into the carburetor. While this lowers emissions, power is also reduced. Removing the stock air filter and intake and replacing it with a free-flowing high-performance intake and air filter will allow an increased amount of air into the carburetor for stronger combustion and more power.


2. Replace the stock exhaust system. The exhaust system, like the air intake, is also designed to reduce emissions, both gaseous and audible, through the use of smaller-diameter exhaust pipes and baffles. Installing a free-flowing performance exhaust system, which includes an increasing diameter along the length of the exhaust pipes, and less-restrictive or removable baffles will improve the flow of exhaust gases, increasing power.


3. Rejet the carburetor. As supplied from the factory, the carburetor on your Sportster 1200 uses a series of nozzles, or jets, to meter a specific amount of fuel into the air pulled in from the intake system to create the air/fuel mixture required to power the motor. This mixture is set leaner, meaning there is more air than fuel in the mixture, to reduce emissions. Unfortunately, this lean condition also robs the motor of power. Replacing the carburetor's jets with larger jets will add more fuel into the air/fuel mixture, making it richer and increasing the power of the combustion. This step is mandatory after replacing the air intake and exhaust systems to compensate for the additional amount of air traveling through the motor.


4. Replace the stock drive (front) pulley. A Sportster 1200 is equipped with a 29-tooth drive pulley that pulls the drive belt to turn the rear wheel's driven pulley. This allows for decent acceleration while providing more comfort while riding at highway speeds above 55 mph. Replacing the drive pulley with a 27-tooth pulley from an 883 Sportster will dramatically increase acceleration, but it will make the engine work harder and reduce comfort while at highway speed.

Remove A Rocker Cover For A 2000 Harley Road Glide

Rocker boxes receive the upper end of the hydraulic pushrods and contain the rocker arms


In order to perform mechanical work on the upper end of a Harley-Davidson Road Glide motorcycle, the rocker box cover must first be removed. Rocker boxes receive the upper end of the hydraulic pushrods and contain the rocker arms. Removal should proceed in an orderly fashion in a precise order of steps. The length of time needed to accomplish this task will depend greatly upon skill level and will generally be between 45 and 60 minutes.


Instructions


1. Take out the four screws located on top of the rocker box with a hex wrench. Remove the seals to each screw.


2. Remove the upper and middle rocker covers with their associated gaskets.


3. Rotate the engine to allow both valves to close on the cylinder. Free the rocker arm bolts with an SAE socket wrench.


4. Mark each rocker arm shaft with a marking pen so that they may be re-assembled back into their same positions. Pull out these shafts by tapping them with a hammer and soft metal punch.


5. Mark each rocker arm with a marking pen. Each rocker should be noted for both location and orientation. Take out the rocker arms.


6. Remove all remaining fasteners holding the lower rocker arm cover to the cylinder head with a socket wrench. Remove the lower cover.

Diagnose Ignition On A Harley Davidson 1200

Harley Davidson's classic V-Twin engine is manufactured in a variety of displacements.


The Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 is one of Harley's most popular motorcycles. Smaller than the average "big hog," the Sportster first appeared in 1957 with a 900-cubic centimeter engine, which evolved into 1000- and 1100-cubic centimeter engines. In 1988, Harley introduced 1200-cubic centimeter engine. When motorcycles won't start, the problem usually lies in one of three systems: fuel, electrical, or ignition. Diagnosing ignitions on a Harley 1200 Sportster is the same as all ignition systems and is best accomplished through a process of elimination. Although there are different methods of diagnosing ignition problems, using an ohmmeter gives reliable ignition-testing results.


Instructions


1. Disconnect the positive cable from the battery. The battery on Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 models is located under the seat. Remove the seat by unscrewing the Phillips head screw on the rear of the seat. Lift the seat off and disconnect the positive (red) cable from the battery with a wrench.


2. Remove the electrical plug from the ignition switch. The ignition switch is where the key is inserted to start the Sportster. Raise the plastic clips on the side of the switch using a small, flathead screwdriver. The plug then pulls out of the switch assembly easily.


3. Turn the ohmmeter on and set it to the "Rx1" setting. Touch the black and red probes together to make sure there is zero resistance. The meter reads zero when the two touch.


4. Test the ignition switch by placing the red probe into the terminal connected to the red wire. The black probe goes to the terminal connected to the red wire with a black stripe. When both probes are connected, the ohmmeter reads zero, or very close to it. If there is any other resistance reading, the ignition switch is bad.


5. Follow a spark plug wire to the ignition coil. On the coil, test the two smaller terminals by placing a probe on each terminal. When the ohmmeter is set to the "Rx1" setting, a working coil should read between somewhere below 3 ohms. Set the meter to "Rx100" and test the two larger terminals in the same manner. This reading should be between 6,000 and 12,500 ohms. If one or both of these readings do not match, the coil is not working properly.

What Are Some Adaptations Of A Tiger

Tigers have special markings that help camouflage them in the wild.


Ferocious, beautiful, powerful and strong, tigers rule the jungle. They resemble enormous cats, but unlike cats, they don't make for good house pets. Male tigers can grow up to 9 feet in length and weigh up to 660 pounds. Females can be up to 6 feet and 500 pounds. Animals, including tigers, survive largely because of adaptations such as behavioral and physical characteristics that have evolved over time.


Camouflage


Tigers' stripes aren't just for show. They're an adaptation that gives tigers the ability to blend in with their surroundings. Although the stripes stand out at the zoo, they make tigers nearly invisible in their natural habitats because they create similar patterns to sunlight beaming through trees and jungle grasses. This makes it difficult for both predators and prey to spot tigers in the wild.


Physical Structure


Tigers have physical adaptations that make them very effective hunters. They have flexible spines and long hind limbs which allow them to jump up to 33 feet in a single bound. A tiger's strength and muscular structure gives her the ability to swim, run and capture prey. Tigers have soft pads on their feet that allow them to walk on their toes and sneak up on unsuspecting prey. Tigers also have razor-sharp claws that they use to fight each other as well as maim and kill prey.


Feeding


Tigers are able to expand their throats, an adaptation that allows them to swallow food in large pieces or even whole. They have the ability to curve their front legs inward, which lets them hold prey as they consume it. They also have strong jaws with an array of teeth for killing, chewing, tearing and biting.


Senses


Tigers are primarily nocturnal hunters, possible because of their night vision. They have the ability to see long distances both day and night. Tigers also have extremely sensitive hearing capabilities. They are able to communicate using infrasound, which is inaudible to most other species. Tigers also have a keen sense of smell and they rely on scent to mark their territories.


Behaviors


Tigers normally hunt alone, which provides the benefit of stealth. Like all cats, they tend to be solitary creatures. However, they'll hunt in packs if necessary. Females have the primary responsibility of raising tiger cubs. Because of this, females are adapted to be better hunters than males. Until tiger cubs are several months old, they rely on their mothers to hunt for their food. After a few years, cubs are able to claim their own territories and hunt on their own.

Change Visors On A Nolan Flipup Helmet

Change Visors on a Nolan Flip-Up Helmet


Nolan is a respected manufacturer of the flip-up motorcycle helmet. The flip-up is a hybrid design that blends the best of a full face helmet with an open face design. The front visor of the helmet "flips-up" out of the way when the rider does not desire full face protection. You can change the visor on a Nolan Flip-up helmet without tools, but you will need to remove the sun shield first.


Instructions


1. Raise the sun shield on your Nolan flip-up helmet.


2. Pull the two latches under each pivot mechanism on each side of the helmet to the forward position (toward the face of the helmet). Pull the sun shield off the helmet, note the slot on each pivot that the end of the sun shield was pulled from.


3. Remove the pivot mechanism covers by prying the spring pin out of the side of each of the covers and then pulling the cover off. Be very careful not to lose the pin as it is necessary for the mechanism to work.


4. Grab the visor in the middle and pull it off the helmet.


5. Place your new visor into position with the pivot ends lined up with the slots in the pivot mechanism (that you just pulled the old visor from). Push on each side of the visor until it snaps into the mechanism.


6. Put the pivot mechanism covers back on the pivot being careful to make sure the pin holes are aligned. Push the cover into place over the mechanism and inset the spring pin. The spring pin will lock into place when you push it in.


7. Re-attach the sun shield by sliding the ends into the slots for this shield on the pivot and pushing the locking latch under each pivot to the rear of the helmet.

A ported speaker box produces a sound directly related to its design.


Ported subwoofer boxes have a design that is distinctly different from the bandpass or sealed boxes. The port of a subwoofer allows the sound coming from the rear of the speaker cone to exit the box at a desired frequency and volume. The size of the port determines the result of the sound. The overall box size is about twice that of sealed enclosures because the needed air space for a ported box is larger.


Instructions


Top, Bottom, Back and Sides


1. Put the 16-by-12 1/4-by-3/4-inch MDF on the worktable. Make several marks 3/8-inch from three of the edges. Place the framing square on the marks and connect them with a line.


2. Drill pilot holes on the lines with a 1/16-inch drill bit 1 inch from the end of the lines and then 4 inches apart. Drill 3/8-inch-deep countersink holes on the pilot holes. These are the sides to the subwoofer box.


3. Place the two pieces of 16-by-14 1/2-by-3/4-inch MDF on the worktable. These are the top and bottom of the subwoofer box. Measure from one 16-inch edge and make marks at 1 3/4 and 2 1/2-inches. Place the framing square on the marks and draw 12 3/4-inch lines.


4. Position the framing square so you can draw perpendicular lines from the ends of the 12 3/4-inch lines. Make these lines 5 3/4 inches long. Drill pilot holes between the lines. Turn the pieces over and drill 3/8-inch-deep countersink holes on the pilot holes.


5. Make several marks 3/8-inch from one 10 3/4-inch edge of the 10 3/4-by-5 3/4-by-3/4-inch MDF. Connect the marks as before and drill pilot holes followed by countersink holes.


6. Apply glue to one 10 3/4-inch edge of the 12 3/4-by-10 3/4-by-3/4-inch MDF. Secure the 5 3/4-inch piece to it through the pilot holes with the drywall screws. Glue the L-shaped edges and secure them between the top and bottom pieces as before.


7. Run a bead of glue on the 16-inch edges of the top and bottom pieces and secure them to the sides of the box through the pilot holes with the drywall screws. Next, brush glue on the four edges of the 14 1/2-by-10 3/4-by-3/4-inch MDF with a small paintbrush. Secure it between the top, bottom and sides through the pilot holes with the drywall screws.


The Front, the Port and the Speaker Hole


8. Lay the 16-by-12 1/4-by-3/4-inch MDF on the worktable. Make several marks 3/8-inch from the edges. Connect the marks as before and drill pilot holes followed by countersink holes.


9. Measure from one of the 12 1/4-inch edges and make marks at 1 and 2 1/2 inches. Place the framing square on the marks and draw lines across the material. Make marks on the lines 1 inch from the 16-inch edges. Connect the marks to create a rectangle and cut it out with the jigsaw.


10. Measure from the opposite 12 1/4-inch edge and make a mark at 6 3/4 inches. Make a mark on that mark 6 1/8 inches from a 16-inch edge.


11. Set the compass on 4 5/8-inches. Stick the point on the intersecting marks and draw a circle. Cut it out with the jigsaw. Apply glue to the front edges of the box and secure the front to it with the drywall screws.

Install A Harley Rocker Ecm

Harley designed and manufactures the Rocker.


The FXCW Rocker delivers, according to the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, "custom-chopper style with Harley-Davidson quality and innovation, with features like the tire-hugging Rockertail rear section." Unfortunately, unless you build your custom chopper yourself, sometimes style and innovation conflict with functionality. For example, it might seem like a simple job to install a new Electronic Control Module. But before he can install a new ECM, the owner must first wrestle the innovative Rockertail rear into submission. There are a few steps that will help you access the Rocker's electronic caddy and install an ECM.


Instructions


1. Lift the rear of the Rocker seat and pull up and back. Remove the two exposed Allen bolts just behind the gas tank with an Allen wrench. Remove the seat.


2. Remove the four Torx bolts, two on each side of the bike, that secure the seat support assembly to the motorcycle chassis with a socket wrench and Torx socket. Remove the seat support assembly.


3. Loosen the four hex head bolts that secure the black, plastic, guard under the seat assembly with a socket wrench and hex socket. Remove the guard.


4. Disconnect the rear wiring harness connector halves.


5. Remove the lower fender mounting bolts and washers with a socket wrench and Torx socket. Remove the upper fender mounting screws and washers with a Torx socket. Remove the rear fender.


6. Remove the harness clipped to the right side of the electrical compartment splash guard just forward of the rear wheel. Remove the two hex head bolts and washers that secure the splash guard to the chassis. Remove the splash guard.


7. Remove the two bolts that secure the electrical compartment cover to the electrical compartment body with an open end wrench. Locate the ECM next to a fuse marked "40."


8. Unplug the ECM from its pigtail connection to the wiring harness. Remove the ECM and install the new ECM.


9. Reinstall the electrical compartment cover, the splash guard and the rear fender. Reconnect the rear wiring harness connector halves. Reinstall the seat support assembly guard, the seat support assembly and the seat.

2. Cut the cork into four pieces. Cut a small slit in each piece. Carefully wedge the four pieces onto the edges of the TV screen. This will create a buffer between the monitor and the projector and keep the TV screen from overheating.


3. Place a fan a few feet away from the overhead projector. This will help with air circulation and keep the monitor and projector from overheating. You will know if they are overheating because they will shut off.


4. Place the monitor on top of the projector, as if it were an overhead transparency. Double-check to make sure that the cork pieces you placed on the monitor earlier are preventing the monitor from touching the projector.


5. Plug the monitor into an extension cord. Do the same with the projector, then plug the extension cord into a wall outlet. The extension cord is necessary because the monitor and projector will likely have cords with different lengths; for this reason, it may be difficult or impossible to place the monitor on top of the projector without an extension cord.

Build A Honda Trike

With good mechanical skill, you can make a Honda motorcycle trike.


A trike motorcycle is a modified motorcycle that has a single wheel in front with two rear wheels attached to a wide rear axle. Harley Davidson manufactures their own trikes, but you can modify your Honda motorcycle to create your own. You can make this a do-it-yourself project at home in your garage with the right tools and mechanical skill.


Instructions


1. Secure your Honda with two floor jacks. Use a wrench to loosen the nuts on the sides of the bike's rear axle. Slide the rear tire forward and slide the chain off the sprocket at the same time. This will allow you to pull the wheel off the swing arm.


2. Decide how wide you want the rear axle on the trike. You can make it as wide or narrow as you want, although keep in mind that the standard width is about 38 1/2 inches.


3. Determine how long the rear axle will be, based on your decision from Step 2. Calculate the measurements by subtracting the length of the axle from that number. Divide the result by two, and that should be the measurement of the axle you will be welding to either side of the original axle.


4. Turn the metal stock with the metal lathe to make it the same density as the original rear axle. Use a welder to weld the turned pieces to each end of the original axle, making sure to weld them squarely.


5. Weld the wheel hubs onto the ends of the new, modified axle. Tighten the nuts to the axle and secure the chain back on the sprocket. Mount the trailer wheels and tires onto the ends of the modified axle, and tighten lug nuts into them with the use of a wrench.

Road captain is the name for the rider who coordinates a multiple-bike ride. Road captain can refer to both the leader and the sweepers who, among their other duties, check that other riders are safe. Working as part of a team, the road captain is responsible for the safety of the riders and the smooth running of the ride itself. Duties include planning, thinking ahead, communication and rider education. The road captain may even act as a tour guide.


Planning the Ride


A road captain is a fundamental part of any ride planning. Especially where riders may number in the dozens or even hundreds, she has to be well versed in the route. She must know about potential hazards, road conditions and any special events that are happening at the time of the ride. A road captain will ride the route a few days in advance to make sure that nothing has changed, will keep an eye on the weather, and will also be present at ride planning meetings.


Educating and Informing Riders


The road captain is expected to brief the group before the ride. He will inform riders about the pace of the ride, tell them about staggered formation, and will explain what the rules are. Some rides require the participants to ride together in tight formation, while others have a more loose, "at your own pace" style. The road captain will also answer questions and educate new riders in hand signals and other riding etiquette. Finally, the road captain will let riders know what to do should they break down or have a mishap, and might have a tactful word in the ear of a rider whose behavior is causing problems.


Leading the Ride


The road captain leads the ride. Riders are expected to keep an eye on her for cues as to where to go next. Working in conjunction with blockers or sweepers, the captain will also help to block off intersections to allow riders to pass without worrying about traffic. She will then pass back to the front. Sometimes the road captain stays in front and only the blockers do the intersection work, and sometimes she works with the blockers.


When a lane change is performed, the leader signals the change and the rear guard initiates it. This prevents lane-changing bikes from crashing into one another and also provides a safer block to traffic. Indicators are seen from the rear and a large column of bikes changing is less likely to be cut off.


Stop Coordination


At gas and fuel stops, the road captain will set up in a staging area he has previously chosen so that the line of bikes can assemble. After leaving, the road captain will wait until the rear guard signals that everyone is ready to go before accelerating to highway speed.


Other Duties of the Road Captain


Other duties of the road captain including dealing with the police and other unexpected surprises, and making sure everybody has a fun, safe ride. The road captain is part of a team that includes the sweepers and rear guard, and is, by definition, an experienced rider.

Tools and Supplies


In order to give your bike the detailing it needs you'll need a minimum of tools and supplies. A hose with an adjustable nozzle will make the job far easier. In order to avoid scratching the delicate finishes (plastic, chrome, billet aluminum, aluminum) of your motorcycle, make sure you have a good selection of soft, terrycloth towels, wheel cleaning brushes, soft paint brushes and Q-tips. In order to clean the bike, use a mild cleaner specifically designed for motorcycles. Also, stock up on metal polish, wax, leather cleaner (if your bike has saddle bags or something similar) and Armor All for cleaning and protecting the plastic parts.


Rinse and Wash It

Use a terrycloth towel to clean the bike. Spray the cleaner of your choice onto the bike's surfaces or mix it up in a container and gently scrub the bike. Use the wheel brush and or the paint brush to scrub hard-to-reach areas. Rinse the bike thoroughly with the hose again and then dry it with a clean, dry terrycloth towel.


Detailing


Once you've the bike scrubbed down, dive into the detailing part. For chrome and aluminum parts use a polish made for the finishes you are polishing. Apply the polish and buff it off. To remove persistent stains or minor rust on chrome parts, use WD-40 and a soft-bristle brush. Re-polish it after you are done. Use the Q-tips to clean up crevices and area between the frame and the gas tank. For plastic parts use a vinyl protectant like Armor All. Just don't make the mistake I made and Armor All your seat, which will cause you to slide around excessively while riding. Also, do not Armor All the surface of the tires that touches the road or any of the hand and foot controls. If you have a sport bike with plastic bodywork, use a good quality automotive wax to protect the finish and restore the shine. Be careful not to damage any stickers that are on the bodywork when you wax it. For gauges and the windscreen use Windex or a similar cleaner and a clean, dry rag or paper towels.

Keanu Reeves is often described by celebrity journalists as "inscrutable" and "unknowable." Despite this, there is one thing Reeves is willing to share with the world-his love for motorcycles. More than just an average biker, Keanu Reeves is a born-wild rider.


Instructions


1. Make bike riding your primary mode of transport, as Reeves did until studio executives convinced him to buy a car (he bought a Porsche Carrera 4, the closest thing on four wheels to a motorcycle, according to the "Matrix" star). Reeves also rides motorcycles as one of his greatest passions, making bike riding one of the central aspects of his off-screen life.


2. Ride like a daredevil as Keanu Reeves loves to do (and talk about doing) by riding down windy roads at night with his headlights off, something he refers to as a "demon ride." Take the bike to the freeways, as Keanu does, for some high-speed riding, preferably with a beautiful man or woman holding on tight from behind.


3. Invest in quality but idiosyncratic bikes, such as Reeves' much-beloved Motto Guzzi and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Reeves also goes back a few decades by riding bikes like his favorite British 1974 Norton Commando. If you like your Commando, do as Keanu did and buy another Norton of a different vintage to get the feel for a new bike.

Definition Of Profitoriented Price Strategy

A profit-oriented pricing strategy focuses on profit maximization.


Pricing strategy is used by business strategists, accountants and marketers alike to achieve various sales goals. A profit-oriented pricing strategy is one of three dominant pricing approaches. Often referred to as "profit margin" pricing, this type of pricing seeks to maximize total net profit, rather than compete with other like products, setting prices comparable to market competitors or pricing strategically to increase sales volume over a specific time period.


Definition


Profit-oriented, or "profit margin," pricing strategies rely on setting a product or service's price to attain a specific, predetermined net profit percentage. In other words, the price is set to attain a set profit amount after all production and marketing costs are deducted. For example, a product that costs $100 and is sold for $200 would generate $100 per unit or 50 percent net profit. Generally, a profit-oriented pricing strategy means the price is set to maximize profit, pricing the product at whatever top limit the market will bear.


Types


A profit-oriented pricing strategy is one of three dominant pricing approaches, according to the Special Libraries Association literature on pricing strategy. It often seeks to maximize profit. Other approaches include sales-oriented pricing and competition matching. Sales-oriented pricing strives to increase units sold and therefore generate profit based on volume. Competition matching seeks to keep the price consistent with similar products and services in the market, neither undercutting nor placing a premium price on the product in question.


Example 1: Apple


Apple is a good example of a company using profit-oriented price. Apple products are almost always the most expensive in their category. These products are also typically considered innovative and high quality. The company does not typically price to match the competition. It very rarely uses sales or discounts to encourage volume pricing. Instead, Apple relies on its reputation and strong fan base to accept and purchase its products at a price it sets internally to generate desired profits.


Example 2: Harley Davidson


Another example of a company that uses primarily profit-oriented pricing is Harley-Davidson, the famous motorcycle manufacturer. The Harley brand is world-renowned. Its customers are fiercely loyal and its products have a reputation for quality. This allows the company to set pricing based on desired profit margin, rather than relying on sales designed to increase volume or matching its competitors' pricing. By setting itself apart from the competition as a brand, this company paved the way for a premium pricing strategy that works.


Questions to Ask


Asking yourself a few key questions before recommending or employing a profit-oriented--or any other--pricing strategy may help avoid costly disasters. Some suggestions: Will the selected pricing strategy increase your overall financial position in the time frame required or desired? Do you have the required resources to withstand market fluctuations that may temporarily reduce sales? Or, is your price set high enough to provide enough net profit over time, despite market fluctuations? Will the market bear your price? Is it reasonable in relation the competition or do you provide enough added value to assuage price concerns? Detailed research, planning and analysis will help you select and implement the best pricing strategy for you.

Fix A Dvd Player Built Into A Tv

A DVD player that is built into a TV is an attractive option to save some money and the hassle of connecting all of the cables ... until it breaks. Then all of the convenience of having the player built-in becomes a hindrance, as the components of your DVD player will be much harder to get to. If you want to know fix a DVD player that is built into a TV, here are some helpful steps.


Instructions


1. Disconnect the appliance from all power sources. You do not want to risk electrical shock as you work on the built-in DVD player.


2. Position the TV on a desk or table with metal trim that can easily be approached on all sides. Set up your workstation in the middle of the room so that you have easy access from every direction. Also, the metal trim is desirable so that any static electrical charges can be grounded before they have the chance to cause further damage to the sensitive electronics.


3. Remove the TV housing. Locate the screws-typically two in the top corners and two in the bottom corners-and remove the outer shell of the TV. Carefully place the shell and screws in a place where they will not be in the way or lost.


4. Look for any obvious signs of malfunction. Closely examine the circuit board and other electronic components for signs of heat, like scorching, melted plastic, etc. If a component on the circuit board has been cooked, use a soldering gun and gingerly heat the solder around it so that you can remove the part.


5. Carefully examine the lens that "reads" the DVD. Many times, a lens that is slightly misaligned or dirty will prevent the ability to read the information on a disc properly. If you suspect that the lens is out of alignment, look for any screws that you can loosen to make micro-adjustments. If the lens appears to be dirty, dip a cotton swab into a little bit of isopropyl alcohol and carefully clean the surface of the lens.


6. Look at the DVD drawer closing mechanism. Look for slight misalignment of the tracks and gears that prevent the drawer from closing properly. If you can locate the problem, carefully nudge the track back into alignment with your fingers and listen for a reassuring click. Also look for small bits of plastic that may have gotten caught in the teeth of one of the gears. If this is the problem, take a pair of non-magnetized tweezers and carefully remove the offended chunk of plastic.


7. Put the outer shell back into place and secure it by turning the screws. Then plug the TV back into a power source and see if your electronic sleuthing and repair has paid off.

Adjust Sound Volume In Final Cut Pro

It is often necessary to adjust the sound level of various clips in a video project to maintain a constant volume. Although complex sound editing is best handled through Soundtrack, Final Cut Pro can handle simple sound editing chores such as adjusting clip volume. Read on to learn adjust sound volume in Final Cut Pro.


Instructions


1. Observe sound levels in the sound meter located on the bottom right corner of the screen. Most sound should measure between -12 and -6 on the meter and only flash quickly into the red zone during the loudest parts of the clip.


2. Link the two sound tracks being used in the Timeline if they are not already linked. If one can be selected without automatically highlighting the other as well, they are not linked. Select "One," and then hold down the "Apple" key and select the other. Hold the "Apple" key and press the "L" key to link the two as a stereo pair.


3. Double click the linked pair to display the sound clips in the Viewer window. Locate the Level slide control and measurement window (which should read 0dB) centered at the top of the Viewer window.


4. Highlight the "0" in the measurement window and replace it. 3dB will increase the sound of the two clips will -3dB will lower it. Type in the new value, and then replay the clip in the Timeline, again watching the sound meter.


5. Continue to make further adjustments, if necessary, in 1dB increments until the sound level is consistent with the rest of the project.


6. Render and save the project before continuing.

Replace Dyna Wide Glide Cam Tensioners

Some cam tensioners on recent Harleys have been reported to be defective.


A Dyna Wide Glide is a motorcycle model manufactured by Harley-Davidson, and a cam tensioner is a part inside an engine that helps synchronize the operation of the cam shaft. Cam shafts ultimately control how much gasoline and how much exhaust will leave any engine cylinder during a combustion cycle. Harley-Davidson owners and dealers have reported numerous problems with the cam tensioners in their current engine which is called a "Twin Cam." All recent Dyna Wide Glides are equipped with Twin Cam engines.


Instructions


1. Prepare the engine for cam compartment service according to the instructions in your service manual. Depending on the skill of the mechanic and the current condition of the engine this may, but not necessarily will, require removal of the breather assembly, rocker arm support plate and push rods.


2. Remove the 10 Allen head socket screws that fasten the cam cover to the engine using an Allen wrench. Remove and discard the cam cover gasket.


3. Remove the rear cam sprocket bolt and flat washer from the rear cam sprocket using an adjustable wrench.


4. Remove the crank sprocket bolt and flat washer from the crank sprocket with an adjustable wrench.


5. Place the cup of a cam chain tensioner unloader (Harley part number HD-42313) over the cam tensioner coil spring. Turn the tool counterclockwise until the hole in the tensioner aligns with the hole in the cam support plate.


6. Insert a cam chain tensioner unloader support pin (included with the cam chain tensioner unloader) through the holes in the aligned holes in the tensioner and the cam support plate.


7. Insert a seal remover between the inside of the cam sprocket and the support plate. Carefully pry off the cam sprocket, primary cam chain and crank sprocket


8. Remove the rear cam sprocket spacer from the rear camshaft


9. Remove the cam chain guide by squeezing the tabs with your fingers. Remove the chain.


10. Loosen the six cam support plate screws with an adjustable wrench. Remove the cam support plate.


11. Place the cup of a cam chain tensioner unloader over the secondary cam tensioner coil spring and turn the tool counterclockwise again and pin the secondary cam tensioner in place.


12. Remove the four Torx screws that hold the cam bearing retaining plate in place using a Torx driver.


13. Using a flat-head screw driver to carefully ease the tension, remove first the rear and then the primary cam chain tensioners.


14. Place the new cam tensioners in place. Replace the cam bearing retaining plate using a Torx driver.


15. Remove the cam chain tensioner unloader support pin from the rear cam tensioner. Remove the cam chain tensioner unloader from the rear cam tensioner.


16. Replace the cam support plate using an adjustable wrench. Replace the cam chain guide. Replace the rear cam sprocket spacer and the rear cam sprocket.


17.Replace the cam sprocket, primary cam chain and crank sprocket. Remove the cam chain tensioner unloader support pin from the primary cam tensioner. Remove the cam chain tensioner unloader from the primary cam tensioner.


18. Replace the rear cam sprocket bolt and flat washer and the crank sprocket bolt and flat washer using an adjustable wrench.


19. Install a new cam cover gasket on the cam cover. Replace the cam cover using an Allen wrench.

The police car is a vital instrument in the fight against crime.


Police have an important and dangerous job. SUVs


For that extra bit of muscle, the police often require large SUVs or trucks. Whether to transport personnel and equipment, traverse difficult terrain or simply place an effective roadblock, these cars are incredibly useful to the force. A popular model is the Chevrolet Tahoe Police Vehicle, a spacious all-purpose SUV, with a 5.3 L V-8 engine that allows it to go 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. A more luxurious vehicle, successfully used by the army, is the Police Hummer H2. The iconic truck boasts a 6.2 L V-8 engine and can hit 0 to 60 mph in 10.2 seconds. Although not regularly seen on the streets, the car is popular among sheriffs in more remote areas of the country.


Supercars


Though not necessarily practical for hauling in criminals or patrolling the streets, a supercar is more a symbol of success and raw power. Most police around the world have them, and the U.S. is no exception. One such car, the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 B4C, is only sold new to law enforcement agencies and is one of the fastest police cars in the U.S. It can easily reach 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds through its LS1 V-8 engine. The Camaro is in widespread use across the country, but specific police departments can also order one-off customized cars. Some of those in use today are the Dodge Viper, Corvette C6 and Ford Mustang.

Transfer A Car Title To The New Owner

It is vital when selling a car that you transfer the title, or certificate of ownership, to the new owner. If the title is not transferred in a timely manner, you can be held liable for the vehicle.


Instructions


1. Maintain insurance on the vehicle until the sale takes place. Make sure the new owner will insure the car immediately after taking possession. The DMV requires proof of this insurance to transfer the title.


2. Find your title. If you have misplaced your title, contact the lending institution for another copy. If the lending institution no longer exists, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation can help you obtain a copy.


3. Visit the DMV with the buyer of the car to ensure you both complete the necessary paperwork. While the requirements may be slightly different in your state, you may be asked to show your driver's license, proof of insurance, a bill of sale with the purchase price, the title paperwork, the VIN number and the current odometer reading.


4. Remit a transfer fee, which can range from $20-$300 depending on the state in which you reside.


5. Check with your state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for additional guidelines, since the process of transfering a title varies from state to state.
