Harley Auxiliary Lighting Instructions

The middle bike in this photo has auxiliary lighting.

The first thing you should know is that if you own a Softail manufactured after 2006, installing an auxiliary lighting kit will be a longer and more involved job than it may seem to you now, as you languidly lean against one wall of your garage, rub your chin and consider how next to improve your ride. Since the 2007 model year, all Harleys have come equipped with Electronic Fuel Injection so electronics are everywhere, including in your fuel tank. Further, Harley recommends that the fuel tank come off then go back on when you install the motor company's auxiliary lighting kit. Novice mechanics may confidently begin this job, but they will no longer be novices when they are done.

Instructions

Get Better Radio Reception In My Car

How Do I Get Better Radio Reception in My Car?

Car radios are more powerful, and of higher quality and price than most common radios sold in consumer electronic stores. Unfortunately, because they are constantly in motion, their reception of radio signals changes. However, there are a few things you can do if you are suffering from poor car radio signal quality.

Instructions

1. Check if the antenna is properly attached, if you already own a car with a long, stiff, whip like antenna. You can easily check if the antenna is properly attached by screwing it clockwise, tightly into it's base.

2. Purchase and install an antenna pre-amplifiers if your current radio equipment is working but too weak to pick up signals. Antenna pre-amplifiers can aid in signal reception by amplifying antenna signals before they reaches the tuner. These device can easily makes weak signals exponentially stronger. Unfortunately, pre-amplifiers are not selective in the noises they chooses to amplify, so specific stations and Radio frequencies will become far more difficult to hone into when there is signal interference.

3. Purchase and install a diversity tuning system if your current system is operational, but constantly influenced by obstructions. This option allows for better reception by drawing it's signals from two antennas placed on opposing sides of the car. When installed, the car radio tuner will constantly monitor both antennas at the same time and draw from the one that has the strongest signal. This is very useful if you commonly frequent the city where tall buildings can obstruct or incorrectly reflect radio signals.

4. Clean any paint and corrosion at the site of installation. The chassis of the vehicle provides the ground plane, or electrically conductive surface that airs in the reception of radio signals, for the antenna, so make sure your antenna always has a clear connection to it. After installation has been completed, be sure to coat any exposed metal with grease or silicone glue to prevent rust and corrosion.

Harley 883 Performance Technical Tips

Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 models produce 40 horsepower in stock factory condition. Several incremental modifications can be made to double the stock horsepower. Modifications should be grouped to maximize the horsepower increases at each stage of the process. Air-intake volume, exhaust capacity, electronic fuel injection or carburetor output, cam adjustments and electronic ignition modules are some of the more common performance-enhancing modifications available for the 883 engine.

883 cc to 1200 cc Conversion

Increasing the displacement of the engine will boost horsepower by about 10 horsepower over stock. Replacing the 883 cc heads, cylinders and pistons with 1200 cc engine components will convert the 883 engine to a 1200 using the same bottom end and transmission. The conversion is easily done, and kits are available with matched parts to eliminate the need for machine shop work and any complicated measuring or engine math.

Intake and Exhaust Circuit

Increasing the size of the air/fuel charge and capacity of the exhaust circuit increases the horsepower. Low-restriction intake and exhaust components open the circuit up and allow the engine to breathe better. The resulting increase in airflow boosts the volumetric efficiency and horsepower output of the engine. Low-restriction air cleaners and exhaust pipes coupled with bigger jets in the carburetor provide the increase in capacity for the system.

Ignition

Aftermarket ignition modules provide the engine with a pre-programmed or owner-programmable ignition-timing profile. Adjustments can be made with these modules to optimize the ignition-advance curve for performance applications and allow for adjustments for personal tastes or riding style. Ignition-system components, such as the spark plugs, spark plug wires and ignition coil, may be changed to high-output components to boost the ignition output.

Valve Train

Performance cams can change the timing and size of the engine's power band. A variety of cams are available with slightly different performance profiles to allow for personal preferences or needs of the particular vehicle. Valve and valve seat angles can be adjusted by a machine shop to further increase the flow through the intake/exhaust circuit. Intake and exhaust ports may be ported and polished to provide the lowest restriction to flow through the circuit. Cams are available in kits that include other necessary parts for the installation.

Fix A Garmin Zumo

Garmin Ltd. makes personal navigation devices -- electronic products that use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to help people get where they want to go. Garmin has a variety of GPS device series, each of which caters to a different segment of the GPS market. The eTrex "hand held" series, for instance, is designed for backpackers, hikers and runners. The Nuvi series caters to drivers. The Zumo series is made for motorcycle riders. Because motorcycle-mounted Zumo-series GPS receivers are exposed to the elements, they're made to weather whatever the road and Mother Nature throw their way. Nevertheless, it's possible that at some point your Zumo acts up. In such a case, you can conduct a handful steps to get the Zumo to correct itself. If that doesn't work, you'll need to send the product back to Garmin to have it fixed or replaced.

Instructions

1. Move to a new location if your Zumo cannot find a satellite signal. The signal can be obstructed by large trees and buildings, and some areas just have poor satellite reception. Stop your motorcycle and make sure the Zumo is facing the sky. Even in perfect conditions, it can take several minutes for the device to find a satellite signal.

2. Allow the battery inside your Zumo to completely run out if the battery icon doesn't seem to be accurate. Then charge the battery fully. Do not interrupt the charge during this process.

3. Press the power key and hold it if the screen of your Zumo is frozen. Keep holding the power key while pressing the key that has a plus symbol ("+") on it. This will reset your device and unfreeze the screen. You can also try calibrating the screen by pressing the power key for one full minute.

Importance Of Soccer In Iraq

Soccer in Iraq has become a symbol of pride for the country.

For many countries, soccer is a team sport supported by its fans and the media with the goal of winning its league championship. The highly skilled players even qualify for the national team. In Iraq, the sport has become more than a pastime; it represents the pride of a nation torn by war and oppressive leaders. According to The New York Times, "In fractious Iraq, soccer has always been one thing that traversed its sectarian and political divides."

History

Iraq was often overlooked by the international soccer community and press, but Iraqi soccer interests peaked by the 1980s. With the success of the national team qualifying for the 1986 World Cup as well as the Olympics in Moscow, Los Angeles, Seoul and Athens, its qualifications proved that it could compete on the international level.

Sport During Oppression

Saddam Hussein appointed his son, Uday Hussein, to be in charge of the Iraqi Olympic Committee and the national soccer team. Under Uday's leadership, psychological pressure and physical punishment were put upon the team for motivation as well for its losses. For example, players were generally beaten after losses, and missed practices resulted in prison time and bodily harm. After the war that deposed Saddam Hussein, the team was forced into exile after extremists began murdering athletes.

Significance

During soccer matches, Iraqi team players are praised with song and flowers.

Soccer has become a symbol of pride for the country of Iraq. Thousands of fans consistently fill Al-Shaab Stadium, the home field of the Iraqi National Team in Baghdad. During the games, Iraqi flags are waved, songs are sung and members of the Iraqi soccer team are draped with flowers. According to the Los Angeles Times, "Iraqis have one thing on their mind: victory and love of the game. The crowd was chanting: With our blood and soul, we will sacrifice for Iraq."

Iraqi National Team

The Iraqi national football team, also called the Lions of Mesopotamia, competes in the Asian Football Confederation. They are the 2009 United Arab Emirates International Cup Champions as well as the 2007 Asian Cup winners. The team received international attention at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games after losing to Italy in the Bronze Medal match. Their home field, Al-Shaab Stadium, located in Baghdad, was built in 1966 and has a seating capacity of 45,000.

Considerations

Sporting events have created temporary peace during hostile times.

Sporting events have created moments of temporary peace in times of war. For example, on Christmas day in 1914, the German and British soldiers played a soccer match in No Man’s Land during a temporary holiday truce. Matches in Iraq are one of the few types of public gatherings that have rarely become a target for suicide bombers. In an interview with Time magazine, Shi'ite education ministry employee Abdul-Rahman Abdul-Hassan stated, "None of our politicians could bring us under this flag like our national football team did. I wish that politicians could take a lesson from our team, which is made up of Sunnis, Shi'ites and Kurds who worked together regardless of their backgrounds and won."

Replace Motorcycle Hand Grips

Scott Motorcycle Hand Grips

For serious riders, hand grips are among the most commonly replaced motorcycle parts. Even the most expensive kinds of these become worn and less effective in a short time.

Instructions

1. Remove the old grips from the motorcycle's handlebars by slicing one side of them all the way down with a sharp knife, then pulling them off.

2. Clean the metal surfaces where the grips just were as much as possible. This will allow the new grips to stay on much more easily.

3. Take a piece of electrical tape and cover the open ends of both sides of the handlebars.

4. Insert each grip on the bars slightly, then poke a small hole in the end of each grip with your knife. Make this just large enough for the tip of your air compressor's end to fit in.

5. Insert the air compressor end in each grip and turn on the compressor. This will blow up the grips slightly and remove the vacuum effect, preventing them from being slid on easily. Then, slide them fully on to the handlebars.

Disable Antitheft On A Ford

Ford vehicles use both an active and passive anti-theft system. The passive system, comprised of an ignition key embedded with a transponder that signals the engine to start, cannot be altered by anyone other than a licensed dealership. The active system, a factory alarm, only takes minutes to disable and reset when needed.

Instructions

1. Press the unlock button on your vehicle's key fob to deactivate the alarm. If you've misplaced your remote for the car, use the PATS programmed key to unlock the driver's side door. Then, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position. The vehicle's battery should be on, but the engine shouldn't be running.

2. Locate the override button on the alarm box, beneath the driver's side of the dashboard. Press the button and hold it in until the alarm beeps one time. The LED light for the alarm should stop blinking, indicating the anti-theft system is disabled.

3. To reset the vehicle's alarm, put the PATS programmed key in the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position. Press the override button. When the alarm resets, it chirps two times and the LED light begins blinking.

Set And Read A Barometer

A barometer is a simple instrument for determining the pressure generated by the weight of the atmosphere. It can be used both for assisting in forecasting weather and for determining altitude. You can make your own weather predictions by following changes in barometic pressure.

Instructions

1. Identify your type of barometer. Most personal barometers are "aneroid" while scientific ones are "mercury."

2. Check to see whether there is an adjustment screw on the back of an aneroid barometer. Read your instructions to learn whether it is necessary to turn this screw to set your barometer to the current pressure reading.

3. Mount your barometer where it is easy to see and adjust.

4. Call the weather service, the airport or a news outlet to obtain a current barometric reading.

5. Turn the adjustment screw, if you need to do so, to set the barometer to the weather service barometer reading.

6. Check to see whether your personal barometer has two needles. Most have one that automatically follows the changes in atmospheric pressure while the other remains fixed until moved by hand.

7. Set the movable dial to coincide with the needle marking the current pressure.

8. Watch for the needle that follows pressure changes to move up or down from that fixed point. Tap the barometer lightly before taking a reading.

9. Compare readings to weather reports and other reports of barometric pressure to confirm the accuracy of your unit.

Harleydavidson Road King Tire Specs

Harley-Davidson Road Kings first appeared in 1994. The "dressers" with wide whitewall tires over steel laced wheels hearken back to the 1940s and '50s cruisers of the touring family. They are characterized by large solid saddlebags covered with leather and definitive steering heads that support a rubber-mounted drivetrain, which shields you from engine vibrations. Dunlop designed tires specifically for this model.

Front Tire

Dunlop's multilayer, multitread front tire runs cooler because it has a tough solid compound in the center, which also increases strength and stability. The sides are layered with a "lateral-grip" compound to increase traction while turning, leaning and braking, while increasing durability. Lateral grooves in the tread move water to the edge of the tire for better traction. It's coded as "130/90B16 67H" on the wheel, and its part number is 3031-81. The tire is 25.27 inches high and 5.23 inches wide with tread 5/32 inch deep. It can carry 677 pounds effortlessly on the interstate while inflated to 41 pounds per square inch.

Rear Tire

The first rain after a dry spell brings grease and oil to the surface of roads, making traction even worse than while driving in heavy rain. Lateral grooves in the rear tread improve traction and reduce hydroplaning on wet grease and oil by channeling it to the outside edges. It's composed of a tough compound surrounded by multiple layers of reinforced tread for maximum durability. It is coded "180/65B16 81H," with part number 3031-57. It's 26.22 inches high and 7.09 inches wide with tread that is 10/32 inch deep. The tire carries up to 1,019 pounds when the tire is inflated to 42 pounds per square inch.

Touring Tire

Dunlop added two fiberglass belts to a three-ply Road King touring tire to increase stability and strength. They are available for both front and back wheels, and are designed to carry heavy loads on long trips at interstate speed. In addition to channeling water to prevent hydroplaning, the lateral grooves in the tread generate heat for better traction in snow, dead leaves and puddles. They grip steel bridges even when wet.

Receive Overtheair Hd

Full-power U.S. TV stations switched from analog to digital transmissions in June 2009.

Although cable and satellite TV providers boast about who has the most high-definition (HD) channels, some HD channels can actually be viewed without subscribing to either type of service. One of the benefits of digital over-the-air (OTA) transmissions is the much greater bandwidth available with the signal, which allows for multicasting--separate, distinct sub-channels within the main signal, which can include channels in HD. These channels can be received with an HDTV and the proper accessories and connections.

Instructions

1. Purchase an antenna for your HDTV that can tune in both UHF and VHF channels. Although many antennas in stores market themselves specifically as HDTV antennas, nearly every antenna that could pick up analog signals can pick up digital ones as well, including those in HD. Choose an indoor or outdoor antenna based on what works best for your location, knowing that an outdoor antenna will provide better reception than an indoor one, and an amplified antenna will outperform one without amplification.

2. Install the antenna using a method relevant to the type of antenna you purchased. For outdoor antennas, this will mean deciding where to mount the antenna, securing the mounting kit to that site and attaching the antenna to the mounting, and running the cables into the viewing room. For indoor antennas, this will simply mean deciding where in the room to place the antenna. Then, connect the coaxial cable from the antenna to the coaxial input on the HDTV.

3. Set your HDTV to the "TV" input and scan for available channels. If you wish, visit the AntennaWeb website and enter your ZIP code and location to get a list of channels that should be available in your area. However, be aware that this only lists main channels and not sub-channels, and it does not designate which channels are in HD. The HD signal is generally found on the first sub-channel under the main channel; so for channel 6 or 7, the HD signal would likely be 6-1 or 7-1.

4. Adjust the location and/or position of your antenna if you are not receiving certain local channels and rescan with your TV, repeating the process until you receive the best reception.

Start A Spray Tanning Business

As people become aware of the risks of overexposure to the sun, many are looking for safer ways to tan. While there are plenty of tanning salons that offer the traditional tanning beds, over the past few years spray tanning, or airbrush tanning, has gained popularity. Starting a spray tanning business could prove extremely lucrative for an outgoing entrepreneur who is willing to learn operate an airbrush machine (or hire someone who is). Start-up costs can be fairly low, particularly if you start a mobile spray tanning business.

Instructions

1. Determine if you will operate a mobile or fixed business. A mobile spray tanning business can save on overhead, but it means you will need to go to your customers. If you decide on a mobile business, consider setting up a booth at flea markets, fairs, beauty salons, gyms and hotels.

2. Incorporate your business if you will have employees. If you will operate alone, you may remain a sole proprietor. Contact your tax commission and health department about any permits and licenses that you will need, such as a building permit or sales tax permit.

3. Find your location. If your spray tanning business will be fixed, look for high traffic locales such as shopping plazas near universities and apartments. Your tanning salon should be convenient for customers.

4. Purchase your equipment. For a mobile business, visit SunmistTanning.com for a complete mobile system that includes compressor, airbrush, tanning solution, eye and hair protection, and gloves. Also visit AirbrushSupplies.biz to purchase wholesale spray tanning supplies. You will also need a merchant account such as those offered by MerchantAccountExpress.com, in order to accept credit cards. Other supplies that you will need for your business include display cases for any accessories you may sell (such as lotions and sunglasses), invoice receipts, a cash register, signage, business cards, tropical plants and other supplies to help create your storefront theme.

5. Become knowledgeable about spray tanning and any FDA regulations. Take an airbrush training course. Some of your customers may be sensitive to the products you use. A training course can help you understand skin preparation, important ingredients and application of the solution. Visit TanningTraining.com for information on becoming certified.

6. Be friendly. Your location and the customer service that you provide will determine whether or not your business is a success. Being friendly and knowledgeable about your products will assure customers that you are a professional and ensure repeat business. Networking is extremely important in this industry.

7. Advertise your business on Google Maps, in local online directories, on bulletin boards at Laundromats, on college campuses and at grocery stores. Advertise on Craigslist, the radio and in newspapers. Offer coupons. Consider starting a website.

Change Rocker Box Gaskets On The Harley Evolution

This Harley has a Blockhead engine.

The Evolution engine was a significant upgrade over the preceding Shovelhead power plants. Part of the redesign was the replacement of the spade-shaped Shovelhead rocker covers with rocker covers that looked like a stack of blocks. Harley cheerfully nicknamed its new engine the Blockhead. Unfortunately, the Blockhead's rocker covers leaked. The covers were redesigned four times. The earliest rocker box gaskets, and the worst, were made of cork -- they were nicknamed "glue and screws." Later generations of these gaskets were made of rubber. Although you can replace these gaskets without pulling off the gas tank, experienced mechanics usually do so.

Instructions

1. Park your Harley in a well-ventilated area. Turn the petcock to off. Allow the engine to cool down completely.

2. Loosen the fender tab bolt on the back of the seat with an Allen wrench. Remove the bolt and washer. Pull the back of the seat up and back to remove it.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable from its terminal with a box wrench.

4. Remove the console bracket bolt or bolts. Use a box wrench on consoles attached to the bracket with a single acorn bolt. Use an Allen wrench on consoles attached to the bracket with two or three Allen bolts.

5. Loosen the worm clamp that connects the fuel line to the petcock with a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the fuel line from the petcock.

6. Drain your fuel tank through your petcock into a large gasoline storage can. If you have a split gas tank, you must also disconnect the crossover hose and the fuel venting hoses on the bottom of the tanks.

7. Remove the front and rear mounting bolts, washers and nuts, using a box wrench on the nuts and a socket wrench on the bolt heads.

8. Unplug the fuel gauge connector under the gas tank on later Evolution models.

9. Lift the tank straight up and off the motorcycle and set it aside.

10. Remove the Allen bolts that fasten the rocker cover to the engine. Remove the cover. Work on one rocker cover at a time, beginning with the front cover.

11. Remove the metal gasket, which is called an inner rocker cover or a D-ring. Remove the old gasket. Some gaskets will need to be scraped off.

12. Examine the used gasket and rocker housing. Gaskets for housings with only a partial shelf gasket use adhesive. Housings with a shelf to fully support the gasket do not need adhesive.

13. Position the gasket on the rocker arm assembly using adhesive if needed. Replace the thin metal inner rocker cover and the rocker cover.

14. Replace and tighten the rocker cover bolts according to the specifications in the shop manual for your Evolution. Generally, these bolts are tightened to about 10 foot-pounds of torque.

15. Replace the gas tank and reattach the pigtail connection for the fuel gauge. Reconnect the fuel line to the petcock using a worm clamp and flat-head screwdriver.

16. Reattach the console to the console bracket. Refill the gas tank. Reconnect the battery cable and replace the seat.

The New Roads & Street Works Act

NRSWA governs road and street repairs in the UK

The New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) was signed into law by the Queen of England in June 1991 and lists regulations contractors must follow for construction of new streets or repair of existing streets and roadways in the United Kingdom (UK). England, Wales, and Scotland, which are within the UK, are specifically mentioned in NRSWA.

Parts

NRSWA consists of 5 parts and 171 sections. Part 1 is entitled "New Roads in England and Wales," Part 2 is "New Roads in Scotland," Part 3 is "Street Works in England and Wales," Part 4 is "Road Works in Scotland," and Part 5 is "General."

Requirements

Utility contractors are required under NRSWA to give notification of any work they plan to do on UK roads or streets, and they must keep detailed records of where their work equipment is and the projects they have underway. These records must be available for inspection by government authorities at any time. The act also demands that the supervisors hired by contracting companies meet the requirements of the "Qualifications of Supervisors and Operatives," which is part of the UK's street works regulations.

Locality Compensation

Sections 76 and 77 of NRSWA allow compensations relating to expenses a locale incurs or has to recover as a result of roadway work. Section 76 states that traffic authorities can recover, from road contractors any costs associated with issuing a temporary order to restrict or reroute trffic from affected roads. Section 77 says the traffic authority must be compensated by contractors for any damage to secondary roads or streets that results from the diverted traffic.

Tolls

NRSWA's Sections 6 to 18 and 27 to 41 contain regulations relating to establishment and collection of tolls on UK roadways. Toll orders can be requested and, if approved, toll roads can be provided by the highway authority or the secretary of state. Tolls can be in effect based on the length of time specified in the order, until the order's stated financial goal has been met, or until the specified number of cars has passed through the toll road.

History

NRSWA, although signed into law in 1991, was implemented gradually and did not become fully in effect until 1993. The act replaced the Public Utilities Street Works Act that had been in place since 1950 and allowed utility companies to perform digging on UK roads without first obtaining permission from the local government.

1969 Cadillac Specifications

Cadillac offered the Eldorado, Fleetwood, Calais and DeVille in 1969.

The Cadillac name is one of the oldest in automobile history. Originally formed in 1902 from the remnants of the Henry Ford Company after Henry Ford himself deserted it along with several partners, the Cadillac brand has come to mean style and luxury all over the world. As of 2010, the Cadillac Motor Company is owned by General Motors, and has released various makes and models of automobiles for over a century. In 1969, Cadillac was focusing on luxury coupes like the Eldorado as direct competition against cars such as the Chrysler Imperial.

DeVille

The 1969 DeVille was a rather large town car, considered Cadillac's most mainstream car. It had an overall length of 224.7 inches and weighed about 4,600 pounds. Like the Calais, the DeVille had a wheelbase of 129.5 inches. In 1969, the DeVille came with a 472-cubic-inch V-8 engine. An automatic transmission came standard. The 1969 DeVille had an axle ratio of 3.94-to-1. The car came with power steering, unusual for the time, and had a 45.8-foot turning diameter. Power disc brakes were optional. In addition to the four-door sedan, you could also get the 1969 DeVille as a two-door coupe or convertible.

Eldorado

The Eldorado was technically a Fleetwood, but most car enthusiasts put it in a category all by itself. The Eldorado had an overall length of 221 inches. It had a wheelbase of 120 inches and weighed around 4,500 pounds. In 1969, the Eldorado only came as a two-door hard top coupe. The car got a new grille design in 1969, as well as a dual tandem booster for better stops at high speed. The Eldorado wheels had special wheel covers, and the front seat now came with a seat belt storage receptacle. Options for the 1969 Eldorado were leather bucket seats, automatic climate control, cruise control and rear defroster. You could also get your Eldorado with power door locks, whitewall tires and a padded vinyl roof. The Eldorado's engine was also the 472-cubic-inch V-8, with a bore and stroke of 4.3 inches and 4.1 inches, and a maximum torque of 523.7 foot-pounds at 3,000 rpm.

Fleetwood

Other than the Eldorado, there were two models of 1969 Fleetwood. The Sixty Special was larger than the Calais and DeVille. It had a wheelbase of 133 inches and weighed almost 4,800 pounds. The Fleetwood Seventy-Five was larger still, with a wheelbase of 149.75 inches and a weight of around 5,500 pounds. A four-door Fleetwood limousine was also available this year. Fleetwoods had the standard 1969 V-8 engine, as well as options like tinted glass, cruise and climate control, leather upholstery and an AM/FM stereo.

Calais

You could buy the 1969 Calais as either a coupe or as a sedan. Both weighed approximately 4,600 pounds and had a wheelbase of 129.5 inches. The 1969 Calais shared the same V-8 engine all the other models had that year. Horsepower of the V-8 was 375 at 4,400 rpm, with a compression ration of 10.5-to-1. The Calais was not the most popular of Cadillacs; its sales decreased by almost 6,000 in 1969, by far the biggest drop of all the Cadillac cars offered that year.

Install Yamaha Vstar 1300 Iso Grips

ISO grips give your V-Star a custom look.

ISO grips are custom motorcycle grips that are made of metal and have rubber pads on them to give you extra comfort while riding. You will need to remove the entire stock grip from both handlebars before you can install the aftermarket ISO grips on your Yamaha V-Star 1300. This is a basic job that requires few tools, and can be completed in about an hour.

Instructions

1. Remove the mounting screws from the end of each handlebar with a screwdriver. Remove the end cap and set it aside. Place the blade of a flat-head screwdriver between the stock grip and the handlebar.

2. Spray lubrication between the stock grip and the handlebar. Slide the stock grip off the handlebar and set it aside. Pull the handlebar cover off the handlebar to expose the plastic handlebar.

3. Sand the plastic handlebar to rough up the surface. Slide the ISO metal cover onto the handlebar. Slide the ISO grip over the metal cover.

4. Place the ISO end cap onto the end of the ISO grip and turn it clockwise to tighten it. Tighten the end cap with pliers until the end cap is snug.

What Are The Differences Between The Honda Shadow Vlx & The Honda Shadow Vlx Deluxe

Originally introduced in 1983, the Honda Shadow line of motorcycles was created as the Japanese manufacturer's way of addressing the demands of the American market. The Shadow 600 VLX model was unveiled in 1988, with the Deluxe model coming five years later as a limited edition test model. The limit of two per participating dealership has made the original VLX Deluxe a rare and valuable item among motorcycle collectors and enthusiasts.

Performance

In terms of engineering and mechanics, the VLX and VLX Deluxe are the same bike. Engine, suspension, brakes, steering, model and so on are all exactly alike.

Appearance

The major difference between the two bikes is the greater amount of chrome used on the Deluxe than on the standard VLX. The side cover under the seat on the Deluxe is chrome. Since the Shadow line was made to address demands of the American market, the extra chrome on the VLX Deluxe offers more of the Harley-Davidson appearance that appeals to many American bikers. This, along with the rarity of the bike, drives the difference in price.

Seats

The seat in the original VLX Deluxe was designed to be softer and more comfortable on long rides. However, since its introduction in 1993, the seat has been made standard on both models of the VLX.

Measure A Space For A Flat Screen Tv

Buying a flat-screen TV involves more than just finding a reasonable price. Getting the best view involves taking into account the size of your room, your seating arrangement and your budget. Here's measure your space so you don't wind up with a TV the size of a microwave, or one that turns into an interactive wall like in the film "Total Recall."

Instructions

1. Measure the overall size of the room. Let's say your living room is 12 feet by 16 feet.

2. Estimate where you'd like to place the TV. Most flat-screen TVs look best when viewed straight-on, not at an angle, and at a height where your eyes are level with the middle of the screen. In the room in Step 1, you could place the TV either on one of the 12-foot walls, leaving 16 feet in front of the TV for seating and other furniture, or on one of the 16-foot walls, leaving 12 feet for seating and other furniture.

3. Gauge the ideal screen size for your space. The electronics experts at Crutchfield, a Virginia company whose founder is in the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame, recommend that you base the TV's size on how far away you'll be sitting from the screen. You should sit at a distance about 1.5 to 2.5 times the width of the TV's screen size. If you sit too close, you might be distracted by the pixels in the image. This means for a 40-inch screen, your ideal seating is 5 feet to 8 1/4 feet away. (To do the math: There are 12 inches in a foot. So 1.5 times the screen size is 60 inches, or 5 feet, while 2.5 times the screen size is 100 inches, or 8.3 feet.

For our example, the maximum ideal viewing distance falls somewhere around 10 to 12 feet away, depending on the size of your sofa. That means a 52- or 58-inch TV.

4. Focus on how the TV will be installed: mounted on the wall or a special stand, or on your existing furniture. A flat-screen TV, especially one 52 inches or larger, weighs a lot more than the 22-inch TV you might have in your current entertainment center. If you need to buy another piece of furniture or purchase a wall mount, measure how large that will be with the size of TV you've chosen. To help visualize it in the space, place a length of newspaper about the same length or width as the TV or the TV stand where you want this furniture to go. You might have to rearrange some of the existing pieces, or adjust the size of the TV you wish to buy.

Sew On Hog Patches

Your Harley Owners Group (HOG) patches have arrived, and you are ready to put them on and show off your Harley pride. But should you iron them on or sew them on? You can iron on many kinds of HOG patches, but just as with any patch, sewing them on keeps them from peeling away. It is a more permanent solution and one that is especially better if working with leather. Whether putting it on a jacket, vest or on jeans, sewing on a HOG patch is fairly simple. You just need to take a few extra things into consideration.

Instructions

1. Choose where you wish to sew your HOG patch. The location of the patch does not matter, but be sure of the final placement. Sewing leather requires poking noticeable small holes in the fabric that will be left behind if the patch is removed.

2. Choose a thread without cotton in it. Cotton will wear away over time because of the oils in the leather, so an all polyester or waxed thread would be a better choice.

3. Pin your patch in place, making sure to catch any lining on the inside of your jacket or vest. Make sure that the lining lays where it would sit naturally. Any pulls sewn into the lining will make the garment uncomfortable to wear.

4. Ready your sewing machine by putting in a leather sewing machine needle. They are available at craft stores and have a larger tip meant to pierce through difficult fabrics. Also, make sure to set your sewing machine to the longest stitch length, since it will be working through some heavy fabric.

5. Sew close to the embroidered edges of the patch. Pivot your needle at any corners, and continue around the edges. Back-stitch at both ends.

Record Hd Tv To A Dvd

HD broadcasts can be saved and burned to standard definition DVDs.

High definition television (HDTV) broadcasts using signals and file types that cannot be transferred directly to DVD disks. DVDs contain video files that display images in standard definition, rather than high definition, so HDTV images must be converted to a standard definition file before they can be burned onto DVD disks. Many HDTV receivers are set top boxes, containing Digital Video Recorder (DVRs) that can record HDTV broadcasts. Connect a DVR to a DVD recorder, which records HDTV programs to DVD as you play them back.

Instructions

1. Record the HDTV program desired for transfer to DVD, on the HDTV receiver's built-in DVR. Set the program to record, using the built-in program planner, or record it manually as you watch the broadcast. This stores the HDTV broadcast on the personal video recorder (PVR) hard drive.

2. Connect the HDTV DVR to the DVD recorder, using a composite connection cable. Composite connection cables have three, color-coded connectors on each end. The yellow connector is used to transfer video signals while red and white connectors transfer the left and right audio signals. Make sure to match colors on the cable connectors and the output connectors on the HDTV PVR.

3. Connect the other end of the composite cable to the color-coded input connectors on the DVD recorder. Again, ensure the matching of the colors on the cable connectors with the colors on the DVD recorder connectors.

4. Set up the program desired to record, by selecting it from the programs recorded on the HDTV DVR and pausing at the point where you want the DVD recording to begin. Note the HDTV program is paused at the correct place by choosing to view the signal provided by the DVD recorder on the television set to which it connects. Refer to the television set manufacturer's instructions to set up the television to view the signal from the DVD recorder.

5. Place a blank DVD disk in the DVD recorder, and press the "record" button to begin recording the signal coming from the HDTV DVR. Press "Play" on the HDTV PVR once recording has started and the signal from the HDTV PVR is recorded on the DVD disk in the DVD recorder as it plays. The HDTV signal is down-converted to standard definition as it is transferred from the HDTV DVR to the DVD recorder. Press "stop" on the DVD recorder, to end the recording once the program comes to an end.

Change Brake Pads On A Harley Heritage Softail

Change Brake Pads on a Harley Heritage Softail

The brake pads on your Harley Heritage Softail are what allow you to stop while you're riding. Harley Davidson manufactures a specific brake pad that you'll need to buy from your Harley dealer before you can perform this job. You need to change the brake pads on a regular schedule, depending on how many miles you ride your Softail. Changing the brake pads on your Heritage Softail is not difficult to complete and will keep you safe while you are riding.

Instructions

1. Remove the bolts from the calipers using the allen wrench. On a Heritage Softail with fixed calipers, rotate the caliper retaining pins until the ends of the retaining clips are exposed, and then remove the clips with pliers.

2. Pull the brake calipers off of the rotors and inspect the calipers for cracks or other damages. Remove the brake pad from the caliper and squeeze the brake handle or foot pedal to force the piston out of the caliper. Clean the caliper pistons to remove any debris. Use the screwdriver to push the caliper piston all the way back into the caliper.

3. Insert the new brake pads into the caliper. Replace the caliper to the rotor. Replace the bolts that secure the caliper to the rotor using the allen wrench.

Install Bmw Engine Guards

Engine guards are used an all bikes to protect the engine during a crash.

If you ever ride a BMW motorcycle and have ever dropped it you will know that it is rather expensive to replace parts. A bit of cheap "insurance" is to install a set of engine guards to protect the engine from further damage. They are moderately expensive to purchase, but far cheaper than the expensive engine parts that can otherwise get damaged in a fall. Installing them is rather straightforward and only takes about 30 minutes and simple tools due to the design.

Instructions

1. Position the left engine guard in place to determine what existing bolts need to be removed. Once they are determined, remove them.

2. Place engine guard back in location and replace the bolts.

3. Mount any additional hardware that may came with your specific models crashbars. Once the guard is mounted, tighten all bolts securely. Repeat process on the right side. Once complete, you will have successfully mounted engine crashbars on your BMW and will no longer damage the engine during a minor fall.

Lower The Air Shocks For A Harley Road King

The Harley-Davidson Road King has a built-in air-ride system to control the stiffness of the suspension. Raising or lowering amount of air in the air-ride system will not lower or raise the motorcycle height. Raising or lowering amount of air affects the dampening of the suspension. With less air, you will feel fewer bumps but your motorcycle will bottom out more often. With more air, you will feel more bumps in the road and you will experience a stiffer ride.

Instructions

1. Empty the saddlebag on the right side of the Road King and remove the bolts inside the saddlebag that hold the bag onto the rear fender. Place the saddlebag off to the side so you can access the air valve for the suspension.

2. Locate the air valve for the air system directly behind the top shock mount. You will see a small cut-out in the fender. The air valve is located in that cut-out.

3. Thread the manual air pump onto the air valve on the Road King. As you thread the pump onto the valve, it opens the valve and air will escape as long as you do not thread the pump on all of the way. It works just like the air valve on a tire. You can release as much pressure as you want and then add pressure back if needed by threading the pump onto the valve all the way to complete the seal and then by operating the manual hand pump.

Harleydavidson Electrical Problems

Many electrical problems are the result of engine vibration, heat and moisture.

Throughout the years, Harley-Davidson motorcycles have become notorious for having wiring and electrical problems. Engine vibration, exposure to the elements, and sometimes poor manufacturing techniques have created roadside delays for many motorcycle enthusiasts. Accordingly, the manufacturer has gone to great lengths in recent years to produce a higher-quality wiring harness for its bikes. Excellent connectors and high-strength wiring and welds have begun to reduce the frequency of repairs. Nevertheless, problems can and do occur, requiring a knowledge of troubleshooting and repair.

Broken Wires

Most wiring--whether it's automotive, hobby or household--can generally be repaired with a quality soldering iron and a bit of know-how. When a broken electrical wire on a motorcycle is discovered, begin by stripping both ends with a pair of wire strippers. Cut an appropriately sized piece of heat-shrink-tubing and slip it over one end of the broken wire, sliding it well away from the repair area. Solder the wires back together using resin-core solder. After the repair has cooled to the touch, slip the shrink tubing back down the wire to completely cover the repair. Use the soldering iron to heat the tubing, allowing it to shrink over the bare wires.

Shorted Wiring

Perhaps the most difficult to troubleshoot, shorted wires can be frustrating to locate because they may only malfunction intermittently. It is important to have a good schematic of the wiring harness for your particular model Harley. This will greatly aid you in tracking down the culprit wire. Use an ohmmeter to measure continuity from one harness point to another, checking for shorts to ground. Sometimes it helps to jiggle the wires during measurement to watch for intermittent shorts.

Burned Bulbs

Easily detected and repaired, burned-out bulbs can be replaced with a cross-tip screwdriver and a fresh bulb. If the brake light bulb burns out and a replacement is not readily available, a front turn signal light bulb may be pulled and substituted in it's place. Many states do not require electronic turn signals in their motorcycle safety specifications, so going without a bulb for a short time in the turn signal may be preferable to a missing brake light.

Dead Battery

All motorcycle batteries have an expected lifespan. On Harley Softail models, the battery is surrounded by the horse-shoe-shaped oil reservoir, further reducing it's longevity. If you leave on the lights and drain your battery, however, you should be able to jump start it. Use a quality set of jumper cables and connect them between the motorcycle battery and a car battery. It is generally preferable to have the car turned off during this maneuver. While a running car may charge your bike battery faster, there is the risk of damaging your bike's electrical system.

General Maintenance

Components such as spark plugs, spark plug wires and coils go bad over time. Regular inspection and replacement of these components can keep you from breaking down on the roadside. When installing spark plugs, remember to properly gap them with a spark plug tool. Replacement with manufacturer-specified parts is generally the best way to go, unless you have a thorough knowledge of aftermarket components.

Avoid Burning Your Clothes On A Harley Exhaust

Harley Davidson exhaust

Motorcycle riding, especially on a Harley-Davidson, can be fun but it can also be tragic if the proper safety precautions are not taken. While most riders are well aware of the dangers on the road, many overlook the dangers lurking on their bike. The metal exhaust system that runs on either side of most motorcycles can reach extremely high temperatures. These hot pipes have the ability to swiftly burn through clothing. Ensure that you avoid burning your clothes on a Harley exhaust by taking appropriate safety measures.

Instructions

1. Avoid loose-fitting clothes that can rest against the exhaust and catch fire. Harley-Davidson motorcycles generally have less horse power than other motorcycles because the average customer enjoys the experience of riding for pleasure rather than speed. For this reason, the pipe system on most Harley-Davidson bikes tend to be smaller than other manufactured bikes. You still need to use precautions against burns but there is less pipe to avoid.

2. Put on flame-retardant clothing before riding on a motorcycle. This will prevent burns from occurring or turning into flames if clothing does come into contact with the hot exhaust system.

3. Wear boots that are high enough to cover the lower portion of your pants. Leather takes more time to scorch than common clothing fabric so an occasional brush against the exhaust pipes likely won't damage them. Harley-Davidson sells a variety of riding boots.

4. Use extreme caution when getting on or off of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle as these are the times when most exhaust burns occur, according to the Burns Journal. Be aware of where your body and clothing are in relation to the exhaust.

5. Inform passengers to keep their legs positioned away from the muffler. On a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, that means to hold your knees in an outward direction, so the calves and thighs aren't touching any pipes..

6. Apply protective exhaust tape over areas that are likely to accidentally come into contact with clothing or skin. Exhaust tape is a heat-resistant adhesive covering for exhaust pipes.

Install Games On A Mac

To install games on a Macintosh computer, there are two options. One is to install from the game CD. The second way is to download the game file from a gaming website, then run the downloaded installer. The games must be compatible with the Macintosh operating system in order to run the installers. Gaming companies and websites label their games with Windows or Macintosh logos to show which platform the game is compatible with.

Instructions

Install from a Game CD pointing to a picture of the Applications folder as a cue of what to do.

5. Follow the installer directions in the dialog box that appears on your screen to complete the installation process. You will find your game icon in the Applications folder when the installation is complete.

6. Leave the CD in the disk drive if the game requires it in order to run. Many commercial games will only run if the original CD is still in the machine.

Install a Game from the Internet

7. Navigate with your web browser to a game website that has a game you wish to download and install. There may be a fee associated with downloading the game. Read the terms of service carefully before downloading.

8. Locate the downloaded file on your Macintosh desktop. It is probably a "disk image" file with the extension .dmg.

9. Double click the .dmg file you downloaded. This will open the installer as a virtual "disk image" on your desktop with the game installer on it.

10. Drag the game application from the disk image to your Applications folder or double click the installer file on the disk image to launch it.

11. Follow the installer directions in the dialog box that appears on your screen to complete the installation process. You will find your game icon in the Applications folder when the installation is complete.
