Sell A Motorcycle Online

If you have a motorcycle that you no longer need or want to keep, you don't have to try to sell it in your newspaper or by placing a "for sale" sign on it. Instead, you can sell your motorcycle online. By selling your motorcycle online with a specialized motorcycle sales website, you can target the specific motorcycle buying audience. You can even sell your motorcycle online for free if you do not have the money to pay for an ad at one of the specialized sites.

Instructions

1. Take photos of your motorcycle from different angles. Make sure that the photos have good lighting and are not blurry, because you need to use the photos to help sell your bike.

2. Use the NADA Guides website (see Resources) to determine the value of your motorcycle. Once you know what the motorcycle is worth, you will know how much you can sell it for.

3. Create an ad on a motorcycle sales website, such as Cycle Trader, Cycle Classifieds, Classy Bike and eBay Motors. Fees for placing an ad vary. You can also create a free ad on Craigslist. Typically, when you create your ad, you can add the photos of your bike and include a description of it.

4. Wait for calls or emails about your motorcycle. Be prepared to show it to any interested buyers, who may also want to test drive it.

5. Sign over your motorcycle title to the buyer once you agree on a price and accept payment for the bike.

Transfer The Title Of A Motorcycle

Buying or selling a motorcycle involves a small amount of paperwork, mostly in the form of transferring the motorcycle's Title of Ownership. While not limited only to the sale of the machine - name changes can also be done in this manner - a title transfer legitimizes the motorcycle's ownership with your state's Department of Motor Vehicles. Completing the transfer requires signatures from the buyer and the seller, as well as a bill of sale documenting the date of purchase and pertinent information about the vehicle. With the necessary documents rounded up, transferring the title will be a breeze.

Instructions

1. Fill in the required information on the back of the motorcycle's title. Print the names and addresses of both the buyer and seller in the designated areas.

2. Obtain the motorcycle's current mileage, using the odometer housed within the motorcycle's speedometer. Write the mileage down in the odometer reading section on the back of the title.

3. Affix the signatures of both the seller and buyer in the signature fields on the bottom of the title.

4. Complete a bill of sale form, entering the names and addresses of the buyer and seller. Include the make and model of the motorcycle, its VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) number, mileage, and the agreed sales price. Have the bill of sale signed by both the buyer and seller.

5. Make a copy of the bill of sale for the seller's records. Provide the signed title and the original bill of sale to the buyer.

6. Go to your local Department of Motor Vehicles to transfer the title to the buyer's name.

7. Provide the signed title, bill of sale and a photo ID to the DMV clerk. Pay any fees or taxes that are applicable to your city, state or county. The new title will be mailed to the buyer's address listed on the title within 1 -2 weeks.

Break In Motorcycle Brake Shoes

Break in Motorcycle Brake Shoes

Properly breaking-in new brake pads on your motorcycle is of utmost importance. Even if the pads are changed out in your local motorcycle shop and not in your own garage, it remains paramount for you to ensure that this process is followed. The breaking-in or "bedding-in" as mechanics call it, ensures that your newly installed brakes will perform to optimum standards. Luckily, these maneuvers are reasonably easy for today's rider to perform.

Instructions

1. Start your motorcycle. Warm it up to proper operating temperature before beginning. Travel to an out-of-the-way location, away from other traffic to proceed with the process.

2. Accelerate to approximately 60 mph. Firmly apply the brakes to decelerate down to 10 mph. Do not come to a complete stop and do not lock the brakes. Speed back up to 60 mph and repeat this process for a total of eight stops.

3. Repeat the process of eight stops if you are using performance brakes or simply wish to ensure proper bedding-in. However, cruise around long enough to allow the brakes to completely cool first.

Harleydavidson Windshield Instructions

Adding a windshield to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is something that most Harley owners do eventually, since windshields do not come standard on Harleys. Harley-Davidson has made adding a windshield very easy using their Quick-Clamp Docking Kit, which doesn't require any tools. In just a few minutes, you will have added protection from the rocks and bugs that come flying at you as you cruise down the road.

Instructions

Pre-Installation

1. Remove the windshield subassembly from the packing. Place it face down on a clear, soft surface with the mounting brackets facing up.

2. Remove the clamp and hardware kits from the packaging. Separate similar parts in preparation for assembly.

3. Pre-assemble the clamps and hardstacks. One clamp at a time, with the clamp facing up and inboard of the windshield bracket, tighten the shoulder bolt enough to hold the clamp to the windshield during mounting on the motorcycle.

Installation

4. Open all four clamps. With the clamp side facing away from you, bring the windshield to the front of the motorcycle.

5. Straddle the front fender and center the windshield around the headlamp. Seat the clamps on the fork sliders.

6. Close each clamp, starting at the bottom and with the shoulder bolts just a little more than finger-tight. Note that the clamps self-align to the fork sliders and to each other.

Change The Oil In A Harleydavidson Sportster Motorcycle

Changing your Harley-Davidson Sportster's motor oil on a regular basis is vital to its continued operation. In fact, Harley-Davidson recommends that the oil be changed every 2,500 miles. If left unchecked, the motor's oil will degrade and lose its lubricating properties, leading to the premature failure of the V-twin motor's internal components. Luckily, changing a Sportster's oil is uncomplicated, since the motor oil is held in a separate oil tank beneath the rider's seat, and requires only a handful of tools.

Instructions

1. Place the motorcycle on a stand or lift to hold it upright. Remove the oil filler cap from the oil tank.

2. Locate the oil drain hose on the left side of the motorcycle's frame and place an oil pan beneath it. Remove the hose from the frame, using a flat screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp, and allow the oil to drain into the oil pan. Return the drain hose to its mounting point on the frame once the oil has stopped dripping. Tighten the hose clamp with a flat screwdriver. Wipe away any spilled oil with a towel.

3. Place the oil pan beneath the oil filter on the front of the motor. Loosen the oil filter using a strap wrench then unscrew it by hand. Let any remaining oil drain into the oil pan.

4. Prepare your new oil filter by filling it with fresh motor oil. Spread an even coat of oil around the filter's mating area to create a strong seal between the filter and the motor. Screw the oil filter onto the motor by hand until it is seated against the motor. Twist the oil filter an additional quarter of a turn to secure it to the motor. Wipe away any spilled oil with a towel.

5. Add up to 3 qts. of fresh motor oil into the oil tank. If necessary, place a funnel into the oil tank's filler neck to prevent spills. Wipe away any spilled oil with a towel and replace the oil filler cap.

Change Harley Switch Covers

Harley-Davidson switch covers house the switches and associated wire connectors for the handlebar mounted controls. The covers are two-part aluminum castings with rubber seals that protect the switches and prevent water damage. Swapping out the stock covers for chrome or engraved ones will add to the aesthetic value of the vehicle.

Instructions

1. Cover the fuel tank with a layer of clean shop rags. Remove the Allen (or Torx) screws that clamp the two parts of the switch housing together. Lower the back of the cover and set it aside. Lift the front of the cover away from the handlebars.

2. Remove the screws that mount the switches into the front cover. Slide the switches off of their locating studs in the front cover.

3. Slide the switches onto their locating studs in the new front cover and re-install the switch screws. Do not over-torque them or the aluminum threads will be stripped, thus ruining the new cover.

4. Place the new front switch cover onto the handlebar. Nest the lip on the edge of the handlebar grip into the recess inside the switch housing. Place the rubber seal into its groove in the back cover half. Bundle the switch wires tightly together with finger pressure then slip the back cover into place. Lead the wires through the relief notch in the back cover to avoid pinching the wires during re-assembly. Push the back cover fully into place. Install the switch cover bolts and tighten them to factory specifications.

Effectiveness Of Helmet & Face Shield For Waterjetting Protection

Helmets and face shields are used in industrial applications where water jetting is used at high pressure. Helmets and face shields are used to protect workers from injuries caused by water that can be contaminated with substances including paint, grease and gasoline.

Availability

Testing of commercially available helmets and face shields offers protection from injury and helmet penetration when the water source is a suitable distance from the helmet. At about 12.5 inches, commercially available helmets were not penetrated by high pressures of water when exposed to a water jet for 30 seconds.

Direction

Helmets were less likely to be penetrated by a jet of high pressure water directed at the front of the helmet compared to a jet directed at the side of the helmet. A high pressure jet of water aimed at an angle allowed a helmet to provide more protection than a jet of water directed perpendicular to the helmet.

Testing

Testing of personal protective equipment, including helmets and face shields, is completed by cutting helmets in half and directing high pressures of water at the helmet for up to 30 seconds or until the helmet is penetrated. Face shields are simulated during testing by acrylic resin plates.

Install A 2003 Harley Davidson Road King Saddlebag

A saddlebag offers storage space with a customized look for a motorcycle.

The 2003 Harley Davidson Road King does not come with a stock saddlebag, but you have the option to install the saddlebag yourself. The Harley-Davidson saddlebag is available in hard shell and soft leather. Both styles are primarily installed using the same method. Although the hard shell version furnishes protection and security, the soft leather edition offers more flexibility.

Instructions

1. Install a guardrail to support the saddlebag if desired. Two types of nostalgic guard rails are available. One kind is more round behind the saddlebag than the other kind. The more squared look is for hard shell saddlebags, and the rounder style is for soft saddlebags and leather-covered hard saddlebags. Install the guardrail using instructions provided with the saddlebag support kit.

2. Clean the fender bolt area, which is along the rear fender. This will aid in protecting the area from scratches and other imperfections that may be caused by dirt and other debris.

3. Hold the saddlebag in the proper position against the side of the rear fender. Place it level and in the center of the fender.

4. Mark the mounting holes in the saddlebag onto the fender.

5. Drill holes in the fender where you made marks.

6. Place bolts through the back of the fender. Ensure bolt heads are between the fender and the tire.

7. Place the saddlebag onto the bolts.

8. Tighten the bolts slowly using a wrench.

9. Test the saddlebag's installation. Take a drive that includes several stops to ensure fittings and bolts remain secure.

Replace Brake Pads On A 2002 Road King

Changing the brake pads on your 2002 Road King is relatively easy.

If you notice squealing and squeaking when you apply the brakes on your Road King, you may need to replace the brake pads. Be careful not to ride too much farther on your Harley before changing the brake pads, otherwise you could face a more expensive brake job that is beyond your expertise.

Instructions

1. Find the brake caliper on your front wheel. The caliper holds the brake pad into place and is mounted on the disc brake rotor. Use a 10 mm socket to remove the bolts connecting the caliper to the caliper rotor mount. Be sure to put the caliper bolts in a place where they will not get dirty or misplaced.

2. Slide the caliper off the rotor slowly so you can access the brake pad holding pins easily. Be careful not to disconnect the brake line from the caliper, as this will spill braking fluid.

3. Inspect the rotor for wear and tear. If there are any scratches or scuffs on the Road King's rotor, remove it and have it resurfaced.

4. Loosen the holding pins on the caliper with the box end wrench. The holding pins do not need to be backed out all of the way, but just enough so you can slide the brake pads out from the caliper.

5. Pry the brake pad and shim apart carefully with a flat screwdriver so you can remove both from the caliper. Slide off the brake pad and shim set. You should see the piston in the caliper depressed back into its hole. If it does not depress, then push it back into the caliper hole with a C-clamp so you have enough room for the new brake pad, which will be thicker than the old pad.

6. Spray the brake pad lubricant on the back side of the brake pad, where it comes into contact with the shim. Slide the brake pad and shim into place on the caliper and screw the brake pad pins back into place.

7. Reinstall the caliper to the mounting bracket on the rotor. Tighten the 10 mm bolts. Bleed the brakes by pumping the brakes. This will push the fluid back into the caliper after it backed up into the brake fluid reservoir when the piston was pushed.

8. Repeat these steps for the rear brake pads.

Difference Between Sandisk Ultra & Sandisk Extreme Memory Cards

Secure Digital memory comes in several types.

The popularity of digital photography has exploded in recent years. Many people focus only on which digital camera to buy. Of equal importance is which memory card you should buy. Depending on what camera you purchase, you may need to decide between two types of secure digital media. Two of the most popular are SanDisk Ultra and SanDisk Extreme. Each product has its own benefits.

Types

Secure digital memory cards from SanDisk are split into two distinct product families: the two product lines ultra and extreme. The Ultra product moniker is used to market the Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) product. The Extreme product line features memory cards that are compliant with the Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) standard. The two SD memory product types are built in accordance with two disparate standards.

Function

Both SDHC and SDXC memory cards are solid state memory cards. This means that unlike a hard drive, neither of the devices has moving parts. All SD memory cards are designed to be removed from the device in which it is used. Each card features a "clipped corner" shape to help the consumer correctly insert the memory into the device. Though used mostly in cameras, SD cards are also used in other devices, such as portable music players and cell phones.

SDXC Advantages and Disadvantages

Ultra (SDXC) memory cards are designed for high-megapixel digital cameras and high-definition camcorders. Ultra SD Card features include sizes up to a potential 2 terabyte capacity and transfer speeds of up to 15MB/s. These features make this type of memory card suited for higher-end consumers who need to store large amounts of photos. This format is also well suited for those using equipment capable of shooting high-definition video footage. Conversely, the transfer speed is much slower than it's SDHC sibling---photos will take longer to download to your computer. This slower speed will also make it harder to capture long series of quick, multiple exposures on your camera.

SDHC Advantages and Disadvantages

Extreme (SDHC) products are also designed for high-megapixel digital cameras and high-definition camcorders. The main advantage of the Extreme line over the Ultra line is the file transfer speed. SDHC is twice as fast---up to 30 MB/s---as SDXC. As of 2010, the specification for SDHC limits these cards to 32 gigabytes in size. This difference in size will be significant to videographers, as HD video produces extremely large files. This means that an Extreme card can store less raw video than an Ultra card. An Extreme 32GB SD card can hold about eight hours of high quality video, versus 240 hours on a 2 terabyte Ultra SD card.

Considerations

The final and most important part of your decision should be what's of greatest importance to you. If you intend to store hours worth of video, your best choice might be the higher storage capacity of a SanDisk Ultra SD card. If you are looking to take many multiple quick exposures, you might need the fast transfer speed of a SanDisk Extreme card. For the typical family photographer, price will also be a consideration. Ultra SD cards tend to provide more storage for the same price. Ultra SD cards can often be found offering twice as much storage at the same price as an Extreme SD card.

Get Thigh High Tights To Stay Up

There are many advantages to wearing thigh-high tights: they are less restrictive than full pantyhose, allow more ventilation and are quicker to put on in the morning, to name a few. Unfortunately, there is also a well-known disadvantage to these fashion accessories: it can be difficult to get thigh-high tights to stay up, and stockings rolling down the knee are unsightly. Yet there are solutions to this problem. Follow these steps to keep your thigh-highs up.

Instructions

1. Verify that your thigh-high tights of choice match your necessary measurements. Thigh-highs that are too big may never stay up. Although sizes are not standardized, individual packs generally have a guideline on the packaging, based on measurements; usually these measurements include height and weight, though waist and hip size may also be included. Use this as a reference guide and buy the size that fits your body best.

2. Purchase thigh-high tights with elastic at the top. The elastic serves as a grip function, securing the stockings to your leg. Test the band with your hand for reliability. It should easily stretch at least as far as the circumference of your leg (judge this by sight), but not too much farther beyond that. A band with high elasticity is best; and, if you are shopping in plus-sizes, you may want to opt for a thicker band, as it will be more secure.

3. Use a garter to secure the tops of the thigh-high tights when wearing them. Though garters vary in style, modern variants usually contain at least these two components: a belt, which you should secure across your waist, and four to six straps falling midway down your thigh, with clips at the end. Fasten each of the clips to the tops of your thigh-highs, taking care to space them out equally.

Difference Between Harley Davidson 96 & 96b Motors

The 96 engines are being phased out of certain Harley-Davidson models as of 2012.

Harley-Davidson released a pair of twin-cam motorcycle engines to replace the old twin-cam 88 line. The 96 and 96B engines have much in common, but there are a few key differences, including the bikes on which the engines come standard. The 96 engine also is referred to as the 96A engine. Both were released as part of the generation of engines following Harley-Davidson's Evolution line.

Models

The 96 and 96B are not interchangeable. The type of motorcycle determines which engine is used. Any bike with a 96ci-sized engine that is part of the large touring lineup or a member of the Dyna family comes equipped with the 96 engine. The 96B engine is installed in Softail models.

Mounting

Although the engines share many parts, they are connected to the bike frame in different ways. The 96 engines are rubber-mounted. This means that rubber stoppers are installed around the engine to reduce its vibration and extraneous movement. The 96B engine does not have this isolation feature. The 96B engine is attached directly to the bike frame. However, the mounting system of the 96 engine does not significantly reduce vibration at idling. Instead, it runs more smoothly as the engine accelerates. The 96B is mounted in a fashion that reduces vibration even at idle.

Counter Rotating Shaft

The "B" in the 96B engine stands for balanced. This is because there is a countershaft inside the engine. The shaft spins to counteract the vibration of the engine. This counteracting spinning shaft is placed between the flywheels. The design is part of the reason that the engine produces less vibration when the bike is operating at low revs.

Power

The 96B engine produces slightly less power than the 96 engine. Of course, other factors contribute to the bike's overall power, but there is a difference between the two engines. A 2009 Softail produces 87.0 foot-pounds of torque. In comparison, the 96A engine in a 2009 Dyna Super Glide is rated at 92.0 foot-pounds of torque.

Difference Between Dual Lnb & Single Lnb

The LNB sits at the end of the arm and faces the dish.

A Low Noise Block downconverter, known as an LNB, is an integral part of satellite dish system. It faces the dish and focuses and strengthens the signal from the satellite then sends it to the receiver for the satellite customer's use.

Dual vs.Single Line LNB

The difference between a dual LNB and a single LNB is the number of outputs on it. A dual-line LNB has two coaxial connections, while a single-line LNB only has one.

Single Line LNB

A single-line LNB can only serve one receiver at a time, and you can only view one channel at a time on one transponder. You cannot use a multi-switch with a single-line LNB to split the signal.

Dual LNB

Dual LNB connections operate independently of each other, so you can use two receivers. A dual LNB can access different channels on different transponders, but you must install a multi-switch to split the signal.

Multi-switch

Installing a multi-switch on a dual LNB allows for multiple receivers to view different signals. According to smarthome.com, "The satellite receiver will send either 13V DC or 18V DC to the LNB and it will tune into either odd or even transponders. You can't split a signal because one receiver may need odd and the other may need even. If you need more than two outputs, you use a multi-switch. One input of a switch sends a constant 13V while the other sends a constant 18V. If a receiver needs odd transponders the switch will connect that output to the correct input."

The Yamaha Raider has a classic "chopper" design with the front wheel well in front of the body and the seat set low within the frame. Despite its hard-to-maneuver layout and large size, the Raider retains sporty attributes.

Style

If you are shy, this isn't your bike; the Raider is impressive and imposing. With a wheelbase of 71 inches, large tires and a prominent headlight, this machine is big. The large engine makes a strong and raspy sound and announces its might with two giant, shiny exhaust pipes. The thin and sharp wheel spokes contrast with a thick and streamlined body for a dramatic visual impact.

Engine

The high-performance V-twin engine features two large cylinders that can achieve a displacement of 1,854 cc. The angle between the two cylinders is 48 degrees. Despite a classic overhead-valve design, each cylinder breathes through four valves. The bore is 3.9 inches while stroke is a long and impressive 4.6 inches, enabling the engine to produce strong low end torque.

Performance

The large engine produces 106 pound feet of torque at a mere 2,500 rpm, according to the Top Speed website. Maximum horsepower comes similarly early at 4,500 rpm. The top speed of the motorcycle is 125 miles per hour, which for a bike weighing 728 pounds is an impressive velocity.

Remove The Flash Drive From A Macbook

A flash drive is a USB device.

USB flash drives, which connect to computers through the USB port, store computer files. A MacBook computer has two USB ports on the left side of the computer. You should not remove a flash drive by pulling it from the connection point without ejecting it first. If the MacBook is using the drive when you remove it, the drive could be damaged. Additionally, the Mac performs some basic maintenance on the drive before signaling you can remove it, according to the website My First Mac.

Instructions

1. Click on the "Desktop" icon in the Finder.

2. Click on the icon of the flash drive and hold the trackpad button down as you drag the icon to the Trash folder in the Dock. The Dock is located along the bottom of the MacBook screen by default, but it can also be on the right or left side.

3. Drop the flash drive icon on the Trash folder to unmount it from the Desktop.

4. Remove the flash drive from the USB port of the MacBook.

Difference Between Aw & Hd Hydraulic Fluid

Hydraulic machines operate with specially designed hydraulic fluids.

Hydraulic fluids give working mechanisms energy, and should provide high demulsibility for the separation of water, air and other contaminants. Anti-wear (AW) and high-density (HD) are two types of hydraulic fluids that are commonly used in industry. Does this Spark an idea?

Viscosity

Viscosity is the most important part of any hydraulic fluid. The viscosity grade determines the operating temperature range of the hydraulic system. Using the wrong hydraulic fluid in a hydraulic system will shorten the life of moving components.

Anti-Wear

AW hydraulic fluids contain anti-wear additives. Hydraulic systems that experience a wide operating temperature range, such as pumps, will work best with AW hydraulic fluids. Some AW fluids also contain viscosity index improvers. Hydraulic fluids containing improvers should not be used unless the equipment specifically requires it, as they can have a negative effect on air separation properties and demulsification, or seperation, of the fluid.

High-Density

HD hydraulic fluids are designed for systems bearing heavy loads. This type of hydraulic lubricant is thick and commonly used to lubricate gears and pistons. Lubricants like this are oil-based and help to prevent rust and wear due to metal-on-metal contact by providing a barrier between moving parts.

Apply For An Immigration Visa In Italy

There are a variety of immigration visas available for foreigners looking to move to Italy.

For many people the lure of the Italian countryside is enough to give them reason to want to immigrate to the country. Lush vineyards, rolling hills, thousands of kilometers of coastline, ancient Roman history and architecture all combine to create idyllic living conditions. Before you can move to Italy and take up residency, there are a few steps that must be taken to ensure legal residency as an immigrant. While some of the steps are the same regardless of your country of origin, there are a few processes along the way that are dependent upon which type of immigrant visa you are applying for.

Instructions

1. Determine the length of your stay, as well as the section of Italy you are going to. Duration of stay is required for the type of immigrant visa you apply for. The section of the country you are traveling to is required for obtaining the necessary residency permit for that section of Italy when applying at your closest Italian consulate.

2. Check the validity of your passport before starting the process. Your passport must be valid for at least 90 days after the expiration of your immigration visa. Immigration visas are issued for one-, two-, three- and five-year terms. If your passport expires before the term of your desired immigration visa is up, you must renew your passport prior to applying for the immigration visa. Ensure that your passport has at least two free pages in your passport for entry and exit stamps, as well as the actual visa stamp.

3. Call or go to your bank and have it give you a copy of your most current bank statement. This statement must be notarized and signed by a relevant bank official. The statement must include your account number, financial status--i.e., employed, retired or receiving pension--and an appropriate balance in the account to cover your stay in Italy or proof of monthly deposits to cover the relevant daily/monthly/annual fees.

4. Fill out the application and take it to the nearest Italian consulate that holds jurisdiction over your state. Bring your passport, passport photo, proof of income and relevant funds. All applicants for long-term visas must apply for their visa in person at the relevant consulate and go through a face-to-face interview. More information on which consulate covers your area can be found on the Embassy of Italy website. Call the relevant consulate prior to arranging your travel plans to schedule an appointment.

5. Allow anywhere from two to 12 days for processing of the immigrant visa. Give yourself a minimum of a month to make sure, as sometimes there can be delays in paperwork being processed.

Free Ways To Check The Vin Number On A Car

A Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, is a unique series of numbers and letters given to a vehicle. Each vehicle all over the world has its own unique VIN which manufacturers use to track the number of sales of a particular model, and law enforcement can use the number to track the history of a particular vehicle. You may want to find it so that you can look online to find the complete history of the vehicle you may be interested in buying. Thankfully, this number is extremely easy to find if you know where to look.

Check the Vehicle

Every vehicle has its VIN number etched into the vehicle, usually on a VIN plate that is bolted to the forward dashboard. If your vehicle doesn't have the VIN on the dash, check inside the hood of the vehicle for the VIN plate. Finally, if the number is not on the forward dash or inside the car hood, check inside the driver side door for the plate containing the number.

Ask the Dealer

If you are buying your car new or used from a dealership, the dealer should have documentation with the vehicle VIN number printed on it. If the dealer doesn't have this documentation, you should reconsider buying your car from them. Of course if you are buying this vehicle directly from the previous owner, this oversight can be quickly forgiven.

Using Your VIN Number

Once you have your VIN number, you can check the complete history of your vehicle. Several websites offer these services and while many, such as the aptly titled "Vehicle Identity Number" offer free searches, pay sites like Vehix and Carfax offer you more detailed searches that let you search for everything from each owner of your vehicle to the true mileage of a car you may be interested in.

Burn Hd Movies To A Dvd

One hour of full HD footage requires about 50GB of disk space.

High-definition (HD) footage requires a large disk storage device. For a one-hour full HD video, you need about 50GB of hard disk space. Even a single HD frame (full HD) requires 13.9MB of disk space (every second of an HD video generally requires 24 frames). While there are smaller file sizes for non-full HD videos coming from consumer HD cameras, they still require about 8 to 13GB of disk space per one hour of footage.

Instructions

1. Confirm the technical specifications of your computer and install a video editing program that can edit HD footage (if you don't have yet).

To edit HD files efficiently, your computer needs at least 2GB RAM and 2GHz processor. It is still possible to create an editing project using low-end hardware specifications; however, you won't be able to properly edit HD footage with it. You may encounter any of the following primary playback problems: the monitor only shows a frozen video clip; the video playback intermittently stops every few seconds; or the monitor only shows a black screen.

2. Transfer the HD footage to your hard drive. Given the large file size of HD videos, using an external hard drive for video storage is highly recommended. If using professional HD cameras that use tapes for recording, you first need to digitize (digitally capture) the footage using a video editing software. You also need an HD tape deck connected to the computer via USB or FireWire.

If using a file-based HD camera, you can readily transfer the files to the hard drive. To transfer the files, the camera must be connected to the computer's USB or FireWire port using the camera cable. Simply copy the files according to the instruction of the video editing software. The process usually requires simple drag-and-drop or copy-pasting.

3. Import the HD footage into the video editing software and start editing. Once the final cut is ready, render the video, then export it to any format compatible with your DVD burning program. Popular video file formats that DVD burning programs can readily use include .MOV, .AVI, .WMV and .MP4.

4. Open then newly exported HD video to your DVD burning software. Select the "DVD-Video" option to burn a disc copy playable in any standard DVD player. Configure the burn settings including your preferred name for the DVD, the number of discs for burning and the preferred writing speed.

5. Insert the blank DVD disc, then press the "Record" or "Burn" button.

Get A Stuck Key Out Of A Lock Quickly

Get a Stuck Key Out of a Lock Quickly

You have a key made at a hardware store. You take the key home to try it out, but the key sticks in the lock. No matter how much you jiggle, the key won't come out. What do you do to get the stuck key out of the lock? A locksmith once gave me this simple advice. And it works. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. First, don't panic. Try turning the key all the way left and then all of the way right in the lock. Then reposition the key so that it is vertical in the lock. Gently try to pull the key out. Do not force it.

2. If this does not work, gently jiggle the key a bit. Carefully, pull out on the key. If it still sticks, use the secret weapon.

3. If you don't already have some, send someone down to Home Depot or Lowes to get you some WD-40 (you can't go because your house is unlocked). Then spray the WD-40 into the lock. It will be a little difficult to get the oil to penetrate with the key in the lock, but some oil will make it through. Gently pull the key out. It should slide out without too much difficulty.

4. Now spray some WD-40 into the lock and onto the key. Wipe the key with a paper towel. Insert the key back into the lock, and try again. Your key should now work well.

5. If the key still sticks and does not work well in the lock, take the key back to the store where you had it made. Ask them to make you another one because the one you have doesn't work.

Native Plants In Toronto Ontario

In Toronto, the Maple Leafs aren't only an NHL team, they're also a native plant.

Plants native to Toronto, Ontario include those which evolved there and over time have adapted to Ontario's climate, soils and native wildlife population. Plants and tree seeds native to Toronto will perform especially well in Toronto. For example, a maple tree planted from a seed grown in Toronto will do better than a seed from a maple tree grown in other southern Ontario cities like Ottawa or Windsor. Does this Spark an idea?

Native Plant Community

If you live in Toronto and are interested in planting native trees or plants on your property, you may be interested in planting an entire native plant community on your land. A native plant community is a term for a group of plants that naturally grow up together in Toronto. A native plant community garden is low-maintenance and if you incorporate native wildflowers into your garden, you will not have to re-seed from year to year. To get ideas on which type of native community you'd like to plant, consider joining a Toronto area green group which visits native communities and can offer assistance in selecting plants.

Dry Soil

Native plants to Toronto can be categorized by ideal growing conditions such as sun level and soil type. Native Toronto plants that enjoy full sun and dry soil include black oak, white pine, smooth rose and American bittersweet. Those that enjoy partial sun include choke cherry, snowberry and smooth aster. Those plants which also enjoy dry soils that are sandy or gravely and drain easily. Shade-loving (less than 2 hours of sunlight each day) native plants that prefer dry soil include sugar maple, bottlebrush grass and zig-zag goldenrod.

Average Soil

Average soil is well-drained silt or clay soil that may accumulate water into small puddles for a time after a period of heavy rain. Native sun-loving (2 to 6 hours of full or partial sun) plants include trembling aspen, black cherry, grey dogwood, white ash, red oak, wild columbine and Michigan lily. Native shade-dwelling plants that prefer average soil include witch hazel, Solomon's seal and red baneberry.

Moist Soil

Moist soil is that which includes high clay content and remains moist throughout the growing season. Moist soils experience extended periods of standing water. Sun-loving, moist-soil native Toronto plants include white cedar, buttonbush, dense blazing-star, yellow birch, nannyberry and turtlehead. Shade-preferring native plants that do best in moist soil include hemlock, wild ginger, spicebush and black currant.

Connect Hdmi To An Analog Tv

Connect HDMI to an Analog TV

HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. Many high definition multimedia devices such as HDTVs are equipped with at least one HDMI port. An HDMI port may be used to either send or receive an uncompressed audio and video digital signal. Analog TVs, not being digital, are not equipped to receive HDMI signals. Therefore, in order to connect an HD multimedia device to an analog TV via the HD device's HDMI port, you need to pass the signal through an HDMI-to-RCA composite video converter before sending it to the analog TV.

Instructions

1. Unplug all involved electrical devices.

2. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI "Out" port located on the source device (the source device is the device with the digital signal). Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI-to-RCA converter box.

3. Connect one end of the red RCA audio cable to the red RCA "Out" jack on the HDMI-to-RCA converter box (possibly labeled Audio "R"). Connect the other end of the cable to the red RCA "In" jack on the analog TV.

4. Insert one end of the white RCA audio cable into the white RCA "Out" jack on the HDMI-to-RCA converter box (possibly labeled Audio "L"). Insert the other end of the cable into the white RCA "In" jack located near the red RCA jack on the analog TV.

5. Plug one end of the yellow RCA audio cable into the yellow RCA "Out" jack on the HDMI-to-RCA converter box (possibly labeled "Video"). Insert the other end of this cable into the yellow RCA "In" jack located by the other RCA jacks on the analog TV.

6. Connect the power cord that came with the converter box to the power jack (typically labeled "DC") on the converter box. Then plug the power cord into a power strip or wall outlet.

7. Turn on the HDMI-to-RCA converter box, source device and analog TV set.

8. Switch the TV's video input channel to the A/V source setting using the "Input" or "Source" button on the TV's remote control.

Deep Cycle Battery Specifications

Deep-cycle batteries are a type of heavy-duty battery used to power certain vehicles, such as golf carts, and some solar systems. These batteries have the capacity of deep discharge, and longevity is a key feature. They are similar to regular lead-acid batteries but have some factors that set them apart.

Release of Energy

Deep-cycle batteries release energy slowly and consistently. They do not provide sharp bursts of instant energy, and it's because of this that they are able to last longer than the average lead-acid battery. Deep-cycle batteries are able to generate more power over a prolonged period.

Design

Deep-cycle batteries are designed with thicker plates compared to their ordinary lead-acid counterparts. The plates of a deep-cycle battery are solid instead of sponge-like, as in conventional batteries, and are therefore less subject to warping. The thickness and durability of their plates allows them to withstand deep and repeated discharges.

Discharge Cycles

Deep-cycle batteries are able to go through several discharge cycles, which would ordinarily ruin a regular car battery. These discharge cycles can be deep, utilizing the thicker plates to their full advantage. Although the discharge can be deep, it is advised that they not be discharged below 20 percent of their capacity, because recharging them more than 80 percent can cause damage.

Change The Oil In A Harley Davidson Primary Unit

Replace your Harley's primary unit oil frequently, for optimum performance.

A Harley Davidson motorcycle has some similar maintenance requirements as a regular car. If you have not changed the oil in your Harley Davidson primary unit recently, you may be putting excess wear and tear on your Harley's engine. When motor oil gets old, it gets thick and contaminated and will not flow the way it should. This causes your engine to have improper friction levels, decreasing its cooling capability. Change the oil in your primary unit on a regular basis to keep your motorcycle running effectively.

Instructions

1. Warm up your Harley engine by going for a short ride. This warms up the oil and helps it flow out of the reservoir.

2. Place your Harley on blocks before you change the oil. Slide an oil pan under the motorcycle, remove your oil filter and reservoir plug.

3. Allow the oil to drain for at least half an hour. When finished, install the new oil filter and replace the plug.

4. Remove the oil cap on the primary unit and fill the reservoir with the oil. Replace the oil cap and turn on the engine. Let it run for approximately one minute, then shut off.

5. Fill the reservoir until the oil reaches the middle range. Replace the oil cap and dispose of the used oil.

Access Hard Drive Partitions

Access Hard Drive Partitions

Accessing hard-drive partitions is a very simple task. A hard-drive partition is a defined storage space on a hard drive. Most hard drives allows user to divide a hard drive into multiple partitions, essentially making a larger hard drive into several smaller hard drives. Just as accessing multiple drives in "My Computer" is easy to do, so is accessing the partitions of a hard drive. Each partition is allocated a drive letter the same way as individual hard drives are.

Instructions

1. Double-click "My Computer." The "My Computer" window opens. Here you will be able to see the various hard drives and partitions you have access to.

2. Look in the "Hard Disk Drives" section of the window. The (C:) drive is your root drive. You may have a drive that is set for factory images. This will state something like, "FACTORY_IMAGE (D:)." Any other drives in this section will either be another hard drive or a partition. In the "Devices with Removable Storage" section you will see external hard drives, CD-ROMs, DVDs, or other removable disks.

3. Select the partitioned drive you want to access by double-clicking on the drive letter of the partition (i.e."New Volume (Z:)). A window for the drive that you clicked on will open, showing files and folders that are located on the drive. In "My Computer" you can access any and all drives at your leisure.

Change The Oil On A 1979 Harley Shovelhead

The Shovelhead engine was introduced by Harley-Davidson in 1966 and was used until 1984, when it was replaced by the Evolution engine. The engine boasted a 1,340 cc displacement and Harley-Davidson's classic 45-degree V-twin cylinder arrangement. The Shovelhead engine, as produced up to 1981, relied on an in-oil tank filter element to keep debris from entering the engine. While the process of changing the engine oil and filter differs slightly from later Shovelhead models, which use a spin-on automotive-type filter, nearly any Shovelhead owner can complete the job with little difficulty.

Instructions

1. Park the motorcycle in a well-ventilated area on its side stand. Start the engine and let it idle in place for three minutes, then stop the engine. Let the engine cool for another 10 minutes.

2. Remove the rider's seat from the motorcycle using a flat-head screwdriver.

3. Unscrew the oil tank cap from the left side of the motorcycle, located directly below the rider's seat. Loosen the oil drain plug, located at the bottom rear corner of the oil tank, using a socket wrench. Hold a funnel below the oil drain plug, placing the end of the funnel into a 1-gallon plastic jug. Unscrew the oil drain plug by hand and allow the oil tank to empty.

4. Wipe the oil tank drain hole clean with a shop towel, then screw the drain plug into place by hand. Tighten the drain plug to 18 foot-pounds using a torque wrench.

5. Unscrew the oil filter cap from the top of the oil tank, then pull out the oil filter assembly. Remove the D-shaped ring from the top of the oil filter assembly using pliers. Pull the upper washer off of the oil filter, then pull the oil filter element out of the outer filter housing.

6. Soak the oil filter element in a parts cleaning solvent until the element is free of debris and oil. Squeeze out the excess solvent, but do not wring it to avoid damaging the element.

7. Reinsert the element into the oil filter. Place the upper washer over the element and reattach the D-clip. Push the oil filter assembly into the oil tank and screw the oil filter cap into place.

8. Fill the oil tank with four quarts of 20W-50 Type-SF engine oil. Screw the oil tank cap into place.

9. Start the engine and let it idle in place for three minutes to circulate oil through the engine. Stop the engine and let the oil settle for another 10 minutes. Lift the motorcycle off of its side stand and into a level, upright position. Check the oil level by looking into the oil tank through its filler neck. Ideally, the oil must be 1 inch below the bottom of the filler neck. Add oil as needed to raise the oil level, or remove oil with a hand pump to lower the oil level. Screw the oil cap into place and lower the motorcycle onto its side stand.

10. Reinstall the rider's seat.

Live Wallpaper Affect The Battery Life Of An Android

The Google Nexus One was the first Android phone to feature live wallpapers.

Since version 2.1 or "Eclair," Google's Android operating system has included a feature called "Live Wallpaper." This allows animated or interactive scenes to play behind the main homescreen, giving the smartphone a more customized look. Unfortunately, many Live Wallpaper apps cause significant slowdown of the operating system and a drain on the phone's battery power.

Live Wallpaper Overview

Live Wallpapers are small programs designed for Android phones (version 2.1 and later) that replace the static images normally used for wallpaper on the homescreen. Live Wallpapers come in a wide variety - some are simple looped animations, while others use the phone's camera, GPS, motion sensor or other tools to create a dynamic image. Many are touch-sensitive, reacting to the user's finger tapping on the screen. While most new Android phones feature a few Live Wallpapers built in, many users like to download free or paid Live Wallpaper apps from the Android Market.

Battery Loss

Live Wallpapers are more taxing on system resources than a standard static wallpaper. This can have a variety of adverse effects, but one of the most pressing is the effect on the phone's battery life. Every phone is different, but the consensus among the Android community is that there is a small but noticeable battery loss when using Live Wallpapers, usually between 2% and 5% of the total charge. On a basic phone with 8 hours of talk time battery and 15 hours of standby battery, this represents a maximum of 24 minutes lost and 45 minutes lost, respectively.

Other Adverse Effects

Battery draining isn't the only negative impact of Live Wallpapers. Running a complex or poorly coded Live Wallpaper app in the background can slow down the phone's processor and fill up video memory, resulting in sluggish phone performance. This effect will vary depending upon the phone model and the Live Wallpaper itself - newer, more powerful phones can handle complicated Live Wallpapers without difficulty, while older or cheaper phones will see a more significant impact. Live Wallpaper apps that use the phone's camera, motion sensor or an active Internet connection will affect battery performance and speed with noticeable results on almost any current phone.

Checking Battery Usage and Uninstalling

You may still wish to use a Live Wallpaper despite its impact on battery and performance. To get a better look at exactly how much it's impacting your battery, press the "Home" button, then the "Menu" button. Tap "Settings," then scroll down and tap "About Phone." Tap "Battery Use." Find the name of your Live Wallpaper in the list to see how much of your current battery charge it's using. If you wish to uninstall the app, press the "Back" button twice, then tap "Applications." Tap "Manage Applications." Find the Live Wallpaper in the list and tap it. Tap "Uninstall." On the next screen, tap "OK," then "OK" again. Note that pre-installed live wallpaper apps cannot be uninstalled by regular users.

Be A Good Motorcycle Passenger

Being invited to ride on the back of a motorcycle can be a fun and exhilarating experience. However, if you aren't prepared to be a passenger it can quickly become an unpleasant time for both you and the driver. Knowing what to do can make the ride fun and get you a second invitation to enjoy the open road.

Instructions

1. Dress appropriately. If you are too hot, too cold or just not prepared, your ride can be a miserable experience. Make sure you wear clothes that will protect you if you fall. You should wear long pants, a jacket that closes up to the neck and solid footwear-making sure that the laces, if any, are tied tightly and can't get caught in any part of the bike.

2. Wear a helmet. The helmet should fit snugly and not be able to twist. Check for size and make sure the strap is tight. Wear protective eye gear. A bug in the eye is not a fun way to spend the day.

3. Talk to the rider before you get on the bike. The rider should tell you mount and dismount, including what side of the bike you should use and if he wants you to get on first or wait for him. Always make sure that it is OK for you to get on or off the bike. If you do either out of turn it could cause the bike to fall over.

4. Mount the bike. To get on, extend your right leg over the seat and get up onto the seat. Use the foot pegs. If you don't know where they are, ask, and be aware of the hot exhaust pipes and other dangerous bike parts.

5. Stay still. Once you are on the motorcycle make sure your feet are on the foot pegs. Keeping your feet still will make sure that you don't get your feet, pants or shoes caught with any moving parts on the bike. Keeping your feet on the pegs will help you brace yourself when the rider brakes.

6. Hold on. Put your hands on the rider's hips and keep your weight centered on the bike. When cornering look over the rider's shoulder in the direction of the turn. This small motion will help your weight become part of the bike and not an obstacle in the turn. Don't lean in the opposite direction of the turn.

The Average Cost Of Motorcycle Insurance In Nyc

Due to heavy traffic, the cost of motorcycle insurance in New York City is unusually high. In fact, many companies don't even offer it. All of the same factors that determine premiums apply for motorcycle insurance, but the greater risk leads to greater cost. It is extremely difficult to determine an average cost of motorcycle insurance in New York, however, due to the high variance in human factor that changes the amount so drastically.

Difference Between Auto and Motorcycle Insurance

Because of the decreased potential for harming others in a crash between a motorcycle and a car, liability insurance for a motorcyclist is actually less than that of a car. Conversely, the insurance you pay for "uninsured motorists," or if you are physically harmed by someone who does not have insurance, is greater because you are personally more at risk when riding a motorcycle. Auto insurance has an opposite trend. In New York, there is more potential for risk to the rider, so these numbers become inflated.

The Human Factor

Another factor that makes it difficult to project an average cost of insurance in any region, let alone New York City, is the human factor. Insurance rates for automobile drivers vary based on their age, experience, and driving record. This factor becomes even more significant for a motorcyclist, as it requires more skill and experience to operate a motorcycle. Therefore, the rate for an inexperienced, young motorcyclist might be closer to $1,000 a year, perhaps more if they are riding a sports bike or one with a larger engine. But an older and more experienced rider with a good driving record in New York might be able to acquire coverage closer to that of a regular car, perhaps even less.

Companies That Cover Motorcyclists in New York

Because of the many hazards of driving a motorcycle in New York City, many insurance companies make it difficult to acquire coverage, while some do not offer it at all. To increase your chances of being offered a good rate, you should have a sensible bike and proof of training.

Keep Costs Down

You can keep your motorcycle insurance lower in a high-risk area like New York by complying with a few things insurance companies like. You can lower your rate by having a bike with a smaller engine or fewer cc's of power, as well as taking a motorcycle-safety course. As with standard auto insurance, a history of safe driving and few or no claims will lower your rate over time.

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage, unlike liability coverage, is not required in many states; it's a bit of an add-on. But in a congested area like New York City, it might be worth the extra cost. It covers the damage done to your bike, not to any other auto or property that is involved. Because you are more at risk for damage to your bike than cars are, especially in a place like New York, collision coverage makes more sense. It usually covers the book value of your motorcycle.

Buy Women'S Ski Apparel

When buying apparel for skiing, women should consider the gear's warmth and durability.

The best way to buy the appropriate women's ski apparel is to determine what kind of apparel will suit your needs, find a local retailer, and try on different sizes.

Determine What to Buy

When purchasing ski apparel, consider the quality of the fabric, water resistance or water-repellent quality, insulation ability, fit and ease of layering. Acquire warm, long underwear for the first base layer of your ski gear, purchase well-insulated tops and pants for your second layer and find the most wind and water-resistant apparel for your outermost layer. High-quality ski outerwear like parkas and jackets are lightweight and breathable, yet durable and warm. Finally, you will also need to purchase outwear accessories like gloves, goggles, scarves, hats and socks.

Apparel Features

Most ski apparel, including brands of boots, snow pants and jackets, come in nontraditional sizes. Before purchasing ski gear, you should visit a local store and try the clothing on to ensure that you have the best fit for being active on the slopes and layering for warmth. Apparel can also sport special features that may help your performance. Zippers on ski pants and jackets seal pockets for extra protection and make it easier to remove bulky clothing. Special flaps cover the zippers to keep wind from entering through the tiny cracks. Gaiters and cuffs keep snow from getting underneath your clothing through your arms or legs, and a jacket hood serves as extra protection on your head.

Locate a Retailer

Sporting goods stores across the country carry women's ski apparel. Larger retailers like Sports Authority, Eastern Mountain Sports, REI and Dick's Sporting Goods offer online shopping.

Prevent Motorcycle Exhaust Burns

Prevent Motorcycle Exhaust Burns

One of the most common motorcycle-related injuries is an exhaust burn. There are several ways to reduce the chances of burning yourself on a motorcycle exhaust can or pipe, so observe the methods to reduce that risk. Many motorcycles are strategically designed to stave off exhaust heat but sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands.

Instructions

1. Never wear shorts on a motorcycle, no matter how many of your friends are doing it or how "cool" it may seem. It is not cool to wear shorts on a motorcycle and never will be. An exposed leg and hot exhaust pipe is a recipe for a burn. Long pants with adequate protection are the way to go.

2. Mount your bike from the kickstand side. Stand on the left side of the motorcycle and swing your right leg over the seat. Since the bike is leaned toward you, there is less of a risk of having your leg come in contact with the pipe.

3. Wrap the headers with heat tape. This will reduce the temperature of the pipes and lessen the severity of a burn. If your headers are located in an area where they are in close proximity to the leg, then heat tape is a very good option.

4. Install a heat shield. Most dirt bikes have an adhesive panel of heat-repellent material along the inside of the side panel. However, most street bikes have their pipes and cans out in the open.

5. In the event of a crash, do not lift the bike from the side that is facing the sky. Reaching over a hot exhaust could lead to a burn.

Super Puma Helicopter Gearbox Problems

The Super Puma AS332 and EC225 are built by Eurocopter, which describes them as twin-engine, medium-weight civil helicopters. Their spacious cabins make them a favorite for carrying passengers; however, two incidents in 2009, both involving the AS332L1 model, led to both being grounded for 48 hours in 2009 over concerns regarding the safety of their gearboxes.

Incidents

The first incident occurred on February 22, 2009, when an AS332 carrying two crew members and two passengers had to make an emergency landing after a gearbox malfunction during a winching demonstration. On April 1, a second AS332 crashed in the North Sea, off Scotland, killing all 16 people onboard. In the report by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch, the crash was attributed to "a catastrophic failure of the main rotor gearbox (MGB)."

Gearbox Malfunctions

Investigations into the February 22 crash found that the "intermediate gear wheel had fractured from the bearing at the centre to the outer edge of the gear." In the April 1 case, the report recorded that the epicyclic module within the MGB had failed. This led to the detachment of the main rotor head from the helicopter, with the rotors then striking the pylon and tail boom, severing it from the fuselage.

Responses

After the April 1 tragedy, both AS332 and EC225 models were grounded for 48 hours in order that their gearboxes could be inspected. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch also recommended in its report that the European Aviation Safety Agency oversee Eurocopter's program of increased inspections and enhanced monitoring, and also that the gearbox monitoring and warning systems on the helicopters be improved.
